901yvonet Posted November 4, 2017 #2202 Share Posted November 4, 2017 I have always sailed with Princess Cruises and never had the option to upgrade. I received an email from NCL to upgrade for our Hawaii cruise. From what I see it would not be an upgrade in my case as we have a 2 bedroom family suite with a large balcony and I am being offered owner suites or penthouses with no secondary sleeping area. I wonder if it's like plane upgrades, where you ring up to upgrade to business class and the price they offer is ridiculous yet a few days prior to flying they send you an offer and half the original quote. llollipoppi Posted November 4, 2017 #2203 Share Posted November 4, 2017 Hello just adding in my two bits worth. I'm from the UK and sailing on the EPIC 20th Jan. 1st Nov 2018: Received upgrade advantage email (80 days out) Upgrades and ranges available in GBP Haven Deluxe Owners Suite with Large Balcony (H2) £775 - £2680 The Haven 2 Bedroom Family Villa with Balcony (H4) £460 - £2300 The Haven Courtyard Penthouse with Balcony (H5) £385 - £1530 The Haven Aft-Facing Penthouse with Master Bedroom and Balcony (H6) £385 - £1530 The Haven Spa Suite with Balcony (H9) £385 - £1530 Mini Suite Stateroom £20 - £230 I am currently in a balcony mid-ship (BB) and have put minimum bids on all apart from the Deluxe owners and the mini suite. I'm a first timer on NCL so will update if i'm successful. It seems to be that the upgrades seem to be slightly more expensive for those booked from the UK. How many of you are in the group? We sailed 4 (2 kids) in OS on POA. There are several versions of OS on POA. Some have whirlpool tubs on balcony and 1.5 baths. Ours had bedroom with solid doors to separate from living room which is the bedroom for pax 3-4. So no, no separate room like the 2BR but a very nice room, very large, and extra perks. Nursebay Posted November 4, 2017 #2205 Share Posted November 4, 2017 How exactly does this work? Does everyone get a bid email??? How long before you got your bid accepted or denied?
texasreb Posted November 4, 2017 #2206 Share Posted November 4, 2017 How exactly does this work? Does everyone get a bid email??? How long before you got your bid accepted or denied? Login to your NCL account. Pull up your reservation. There should be a box/icon in the middle about upgrading. Click that. Then you will see your options. If you want to bid. Move the slider to what you want to bid. Do the ACCEPT. Then enter credit card info. Can not choose the exact cabin. Pot luck for that category. Bid is PER PERSON X 2. They could accept the bid right away. Then maybe not until under 48 hours to sail. Might show up at pier and find out you got upgraded and your CC has been charged. You will not get the upgrade message until 80 days before your cruise. So you have a while to go yet before you can bid.

UK are charged far more for all cabins. And we get moaned at for not tipping enough or wanting to pay loaded gratuities upfront. Be aware that you can pay what you feel per person, as and when you like. If grats are loaded upfront then you can have them taken off as soon as you can. Thank you for the heads up on upgrades as these are all new to UK sailers too, or reasonably more recent than our US friends, who are hot on all aspect and jargon to do with cruising. I’m learning from them fast! How come the next post says deleted? Which bit? Enjoy your first NCL Cruise. We just booked for a trip leaving on 11/18 and wondering if we have any chance of getting an upgrade... Thanks! I booked 4 weeks out from my cruise. I never got an email however the option appeared about two days after booking when I logged into Ncl website. So I’m not sure if or when I would’ve gotten the email since I put in a bid that day. It’s a very big and obvious option for your cruise when you logon. You can’t miss it. It scrolls like the option to get a drink pkg.

garycarla Posted November 4, 2017 #2218 Share Posted November 4, 2017 I am fully aware that i can no longer make a bid on my inside to OV upgrade. That ship has sailed. I an also aware that i can at any time upgrade by paying full price for a higher room by paying the difference. My question which many of you are not understanding is when i upgrade directly by paying full price for said upgrade, would i get a different option to bid for an upgrade on what should be considered a new reservation? You get upgrade options based on a paid and booked room. If you call in and CHANGE your booked cabin from OV to a Balcony, you could get upgrades based on the booked cabin (balcony) in this case. You really do not have an upgraded cabin. You changed your reservation. It might seem like an upgrade to you, but the system considers it a booked reservation. Earlier posts referred to upgrading once and then upgrading again. That was confusing.

Sand and Seas Posted November 4, 2017 #2220 Share Posted November 4, 2017 I booked a BB balcony...what will my upgrade options be I wonder? Any balcony would be offered Mini-suite, and all categories of Haven/Suite. They don't let you bid on special categories of Minis (like spa). Nursebay Posted November 4, 2017 #2221 Share Posted November 4, 2017 I don’t think the Gem has a spa level.
Sand and Seas Posted November 4, 2017 #2222 Share Posted November 4, 2017 I don’t think the Gem has a spa level. OK, I was giving you an answer for all ships. On the Gem, you wouldn't be able to specifically bid on a special Mini-Suite like an Aft facing. However, if you won a Mini-Suite bid they could give you any grade of Mini.
