Which would you choose: Family Verandah vs Sky Suite

Just wanted to get a sense for what others would do in this situation. We are traveling on Celebrity Millennium on Apr 8. We paid to upgrade to Family Verandah (nice corner room on deck 9). The suite guarantees for this sailing (which I assumes means 99% chance this will be a Sky Suite) are now actually $100 less than what we paid including the prior upgrade. It would come with all four perks, versus just two we have now.

I like the rear ship location, huge balcony and larger room with divider that the FV room offers. Always wanted to try one of these too.

On the other hand, Luminae would be fun to try too, the four perks are quite nice, and the priority boarding and butler service are also strong arguments.

I would love to try the FV cabin if I wasn't thinking a suite was an option. But as it is I'd grab the opportunity. The verandah may not be aft or as large but still larger than normal. The suite privileges, Luminae and all four perks would seal the deal if the price is so good!!

Book a FV for your future cruise on board [emoji38]!!

We loved the FV on Millennium but would definitely swap for a suite guarantee - love the suite perks. The FV Veranda is huge and the room feels like a suite in size but not in finish or service. Is it just the two of you? If so, it would be a no brainer for me.

We always book a FV on M class ships, where possible, but never on deck 9 (just a little too close to the facilities on the deck above for us). So if there are only the 2 of you cruising, I'd go for the suite plus the extra perks. If there are any more pax in the cabin, consider how much time you will be spending in the cabin and how much less space you will have ;).

If I were you, I would grab the suite guarantee immediately without the slightest hesitation.

Luminae and Michael's Club and the two extra included perks alone make it worthwhile.

But in addition, you get 8 Captain's Club points per day (instead of 3), the upgraded suite amenities, flowers, priority tendering if you have any tender ports on your itinerary, plus priority for booking specialty restaurant reservations, if you want to dine in any of the specialty restaurants.

Forgot to add that in suites you also often get invitations to things like bridge tours or backstage tours or the helipad for sailaways, or dinner with an officer, which may not matter to you if you are already getting them from the Captain's Club host/ess anyway.

We have sailed in nothing but family cabins or suites during our past 11 Celebrity cruises. I agree with all that has been said. For us, since we travel as a family of 4, the FVs are the way to go. If it were just my wife and I, we would definitely go for the SS because it is a bit cheaper, better appointed, better service (butler, express line for getting back on the ship) and access to the Luminae and Michaels Club.

Also, if you value having a bathtub, you will find it in the SS where the FVs have a standard bathroom setup (i.e. shower only).

Thanks for everybody's input - sounds like it's a landslide for the Sky Suite. Ironically, now that it's morning here and I could call to have it changed, the suite guarantee appears to have been pulled. So now it is about $2000 extra for S2 category which to me is too much. Oh well - I will watch it and if the guarantee comes back then switch at that point. :p

I would check daily, on my upcoming cruise it would appear and disappear almost daily. When we pulled the trigger it was 4200 for a Suite GTY and something like 4900 for a S2, a few days later a GTY was 100 more than the S1 which is all that was available, made no sense to me.

The suite guarantee did come back, went away again, came back, went away again and then came back again. It was a more stressful process than I'd like for a vacation, but mission accomplished. And it really is a good deal with all the perks.

The stress will be worth it. Congratulations. Enjoy the Best perks, the extra suite perks, and the cabin. Do not forget to check if a better location becomes available once you are assigned a location.

Booking a guarantee you must be prepared to accept the worst suite on the ship. Both times we've done suite guarantee on M-Class we've gotten cabin 9121. Handicapped accessible and located below the ping pong table. No bathtub.

It's not terrible though - the ping pong table is actually over the balcony and this suite is very conveniently located for access to the pool deck, buffet, and elevators. We'd take the risk of getting 'stuck' in this cabin again, though I'd prefer the prettier bathroom in a non-accessible room.

Yep - they assigned an S2 immediately - there were about 5 available still. I switched to preferred side of ship (port side will be towards the shore for most of this particular cruise)

Right, you have to be ready to accept the "worst" room. Still can't be that bad though, right? It's a suite.

Actually, I wouldn't have personally minded the accessible room, as I'm 6'5" and I find on most ships the bath/shower combos are lacking in height. But I could see how most people would like the standard bathroom set up better.

  • 1 month later...

We were in a similar situation in the Med last year on Connie: booked an AQ aft but as prices continued to soften ultimately upgraded to a Celebrity Suite midships. After dining in Luminae, we will never book anything less than a Sky Suite!

Congratulations on landing the suite. It would have been a no brainer for us. We were in a suite on Millennium this time last year and loved every minute. The perks are great as are Luminae and Michaels. Enjoy your cruise.

What are the perks for a Sky Suite, are any of them the GO Best 4 perks you can buy when you book a cruise? Also we are already have Elite status, not exactly sure what that gives us either. We mostly have cruised on RCL, this will be our first cruises on Celebrity.B2B next month.

One thing no one mentioned was debarkation. When we leave the ship and have the Michaels Concierge escort us to claim our luggage then walk us past all the lines with people waiting to go through the customs agents we always say to each other that made it worth the cost for a suite right there. I've never spent more than 5 minutes between claiming my luggage and being outside looking for my transportation away from the port.

Glad you were able to get the SS!
