Rare John&LaLa Posted February 16, 2017 #226 Share Posted February 16, 2017 Good for you! I always figure that once I am on the ship, vacation has started. There are some ports I would be sad to miss of course, but that's just a good reason for another cruise. Nassau is not one I would be sad to miss. Enjoy the rest of your "cruise." ;) I think all they will miss is a sea day Sent from my HTC One_M8 using Forums mobile app
chengkp75 Posted February 16, 2017 #227 Share Posted February 16, 2017 It's not "Chang" it's "chengkp75" as in Chief Engineer... Trust me, he knows. And "Chang" is an alternative spelling.
DirtyDawg Posted February 16, 2017 #228 Share Posted February 16, 2017 As I've said, it could be any one of their ships, or any one of their competitor's ships, depending on the inspector. There is no gray area, the inspector says the lifejacket passes, or it fails, yet another inspector looking at a different pile of lifejackets on the same ship, could give an okay to a jacket the first inspector would have failed. There is training for PSC inspectors, and there are guidelines, but once onboard, the inspector is using their own judgement and experience to determine pass/fail. So RCI couldn't call for second opinion from the PSC bosses? WOW! the referees at the Superbowl don't even get that much power! The offending coaches call for booth reviews all the time. :) (winkie emoji)
Rare John&LaLa Posted February 16, 2017 #229 Share Posted February 16, 2017 Super Bowl is just a game. I'd like to think that our safety would Trump that. 😱 Sent from my HTC One_M8 using Forums mobile app
ducklite Posted February 16, 2017 #230 Share Posted February 16, 2017 Will be on Majesty for 4 days end of February. Will check the life jackets for dates. Never had given it a thought and in recent muster drills, life jackets have not been required.....even held muster drills inside.... I guess I'll be in the habit of check expiration dates on life jackets for awhile;)Recently on Princess cruise and life jackets were required; but didn't have to put on unless wanted to. Saw many just watch and a few did try. AND again, was held in the dining room....some outside.John&LaLa.....just love your view and your correct about central Florida unless your lania faces golf course, which ours does.:D As does mine. 9th tee. Looking off to the distance I can watch the Magic Kingdom fireworks. Rolling hills where I live.

ducklite Posted February 16, 2017 #232 Share Posted February 16, 2017 That someone else "harping on it" was me and I still stand by every single word i said. The way I look at it, they stole $8000 from me by not delivering what was advertised and offered in their written literature and delivering a sub par product with sewage backing up into the room while we were out, burned out bulbs and broken television, cobwebs, prison quality food, terrible service in the dining room (which even our RCCL cheerleaders friends who were on the same cruise agreed), nickel and diming on everything, incompetence by the concierge and beyond rude treatment by the Captain as a result, and a terrible response after the fact. It was the worst vacation ever, and their response was too little too late by the time they did acknowledge that they blew it. They offered 75% off to cruise with them again but put so many restrictions on it that the certificates were impossible to use. (Every cruise within the next year was fully booked in the category they required us to book. I think they did it on purpose to add salt to the wound) Until they make it right, I will continue to tell people how sub par their cruises are. robtulipe Posted February 16, 2017 #233 Share Posted February 16, 2017 (edited) There is a dumpster under my balcony full of life jackets. I would post photos, but don't have a photo sharing account. :-) You don't need a photo sharing account to add a thumbnail picture to your post. One can use the Manage Attachment option in the Attach File box on the response page to upload photos from your device as I have done below. These I downloaded to my computer from the Daily Mail article linked to in this thread. I also do an edit to add a link to the larger thumbnail picture to my posts so others don't have to click on the thumbnail to see this. The new version of CC automatically sizes the pictures which is a big improvement over the old version.

Is it really worth it to you, after 12 years, to continue to expend the negative energy to post like this? That's what I would ask myself. Most people on CC understand that you are a disgruntled passenger (and yes, what you experienced wasn't good), but you continue to give negative energy out, and it won't charge a darn thing for you. Most of us who have cruised say, 25 or more times, have had a bad experience here or there. Mine wasn't on a RC ship, and I won't sail with that line now, but it would never occur to me after this long to continue to troll board after board, making disparaging remarks. Life is too short. My grandchild with ongoing critical illness has taught me much about what's worth fighting over, and what's not. Every day I'm appreciative of the life lessons from Mallory. However, on this board you are mostly talking to folks who have a lot of their own personal experience with RCI so we know that your experience is not typical. Therefore, I don't know that your posts accomplish what you might hope that they do.
Lurch104 Posted February 16, 2017 Author #241 Share Posted February 16, 2017 Hello all! OP checking in again. Thanks for the explanation Cpt BJ! As a Navy man I was shocked a 3rd class PO would have the power to shut down the ship. Or, as I told my wife, big brass "ahem" ... We missed Cocoa Cay this morning due to weather. I feel sorry for the Guest Relations staff. Huge line of complaints all day since announced. I felt like getting a cocktail and pulling up a chair to watch. Overall the cruise has been nice. I cashed out my OBC via casino chips; bird in the hand and all that. Overall I am happy. $375 off this cruise on top of the Costco and RCI credits I had already received of $420. I had already booked a JS on Freedom on 1/6/18 so got the Costco and RCI booking credits already. The certificate for an extra $375 will be a nice additional discount. Next cruise desk assured me that the certificate would be applied to the cruise I had booked. All is well from my view. However, I suspect the a great many first time cruisers will not give RCI or cruising in general another chance. I have been doing my part to provide perspective, but I am only one man. I still think RCI should comp me for being an ad hoc loyalty ambassador. :-) Best regards! John "Lurch104"
Iowa_Vike Posted February 16, 2017 #242 Share Posted February 16, 2017 What was the reason to miss CocoCay? Didn't look like the winds were too bad. It does look like you might have had a front go by that could have stirred up the seas. Just curious since I'll be on her on Monday.
Lurch104 Posted February 16, 2017 Author #243 Share Posted February 16, 2017 30 knot winds and 8 ft. Surf at the tender entrance. We were pretty close, I wouldn't want to take a small boat through that mess.
Granny&Pap Posted February 17, 2017 #244 Share Posted February 17, 2017 CoCoCay is missed alot because of weather, wind and ruff seas. It's a chance you take when doing the short cruises to Nassau. Been on several different cruises lines and only one that we will not return to and it was years ago....BUT not going to name and bash. Just love cruising and Royal has always been our favorite....kinda like the middle of the road type....:) Do feel bad for first time cruisers on this past cruise. Hopefully they will read all the positive and leave the negative behind when THEY CRUISE AGAIN!!

Part of the reason is because we are so small and streach thin. I believe there are more people in the NYPD then CG. Usually to terminate a commercial vessel, the call is higher up the food chain then a 3rd class, most likely it involved a few phone calls to verify with legal with lots of pictures to document. kikiw Posted February 17, 2017 #246 Share Posted February 17, 2017 Curious if any of the other ships are suddenly having a full unscheduled life jacket inspection today? ;) Taken on Wed on the Indy, I found it funny enough to snap a pic of it walking by :p I also checked the lifejackets in our cabin, and they had a production date of Oct 2007
chengkp75 Posted February 17, 2017 #247 Share Posted February 17, 2017 This could be coincidental as the monthly inspection, or it could feed my suspicion that they are looking for counterfeit jackets. They may have been seen as fine in the last inspections, but no one bothered to look at the manufacturer.
Diav Posted February 17, 2017 #248 Share Posted February 17, 2017 Just got off this boat. Worst cruise we ever took and we have taken well over 25 cruises. Besides the long stay in port, the lies about what was wrong and missing Coco Cay, the service and food was terrible at both breakfast and lunch. They use pre-made pizza and call it freshly made? Give me a break. At dinner, we ate at the buffet and the dinners were actually decent. People smoking everywhere. Our room was the size of a postage stamp and the bed was so very old. We will never take a Royal C. cruise again. Princess and Celebrity do it so much better.
