I am new to RCL..needed a six day cruise and the Freedom had one. We sail a week from Sunday.

We have MTD, I'm pretty sure. We are used to NCL, where you just show up at a dining room when you are hungry and you eat. When we went on HAL two years ago, we only ate in the buffet, because we couldn't really figure out how to eat in the dining rooms. I don't want that to happen again. So with MTD, do I just show up and get seated, or do I need a reservation, or what? If I need a reservation, I will probably end up in the buffet every night again, lol. Any help is appreciated.

Think of it like a land restaurant. If you just show up, you will wait until a table is available. That could happen immediately or take quite a while, depending on how busy they are at the time. If you make a reservation, you will be seated within a few minutes of arriving, assuming that you arrive at your reservation time.

Like others have said, you can do either. Last week on IOS we only ate in the MDR twice. I made reservations for both nights. However I had no problem showing up one night at 6pm and being seated immediately with 2 people even though my original reservations was at 7pm for 5 people.

no you do not NEED one. however the peak times( 6-7 ish) there may be a delay in being seated if you want to be by yourself.

I only make a reservation for the first night. after that we just make a reservation( if we want) after dinner for the next night or even call during the day to put our name down.

you may have to scope out the MDR entrances though.. MTD tends to be on a different floor from traditional dining, and your may even have two entrances, one for people with reservations and one for people without. on boarding day, in your wanderings, head on over to get the lay of the land.

Ha ha, we eat like farmers..or elementary school teachers... breakfast at 6, lunch at 11:30, dinner at about 5 pm so it sounds like we should be good to go.

Well, no, not quite, since the MDR doesn't open till 5:30 (and 6 on some ships) for dinner.;p

OMG....go to the freaking dining room! You will either have assigned dining time, or MTD....it will be on your booking, and on your seapass when you board! If you are still unsure...ASK! Lordy...do NOT settle for the buffet! EVERY guest gets dining room access!

Can you change your booking to early (5:30, probably) dining room seating rather than MTD? Then you will be assigned a table together, and you just go to the same table at that time every night. Easy and predictable; no reservations needed.

On the first night, just show up at the dining room door with your seapass card. They will show you to your table. It will be yours, at that time, for the rest of the cruise.

How many people will be cruising with you? You can request a table just for you, or a bigger one to be shared with others.

If you are not able to change your reservation before you sail, you can go to the dining room the day you board, and ask if they can do so.

MTD is the same on Royal Caribbean as it is on most, including Holland America.

You go to the correct dining room and ask to be seated for your meal. You may have a short wait, depending on the time you choose. You are seated and you enjoy dinner. If you like the table and waiters, you can usually reserve that table for the same time again (USUALLY).

If you have either of the set dining times, there will be a card in your stateroom telling you which table and at what time... Show up at the correct dining room and you will be escorted to your table and be seated.

Not that difficult..

Have a good cruise.

When you booked, did you do it yourself online? Did you call anyone and ASK how the dining works? Why would you just "settle"? All you need to do is ASK ASK ASK, and if you don't understand ASK again!

I did ask. I asked you guys on CC. And I'm more than content with the answer.:D

Past 5 cruises in last 14 months with MTD on all. MTD has always opened at least 15 minutes before early traditional. and by the time we are walking out it is mostly full. I have wittnessed a 15 minute wait in the 6:30 - 7:00 time range but not often

Thank you. I feel reassured.
