How long before they move the new Edge to Alaska? The Infinite Verandas are idea for the weather there.

I agree. Who knows, perhaps in April 2019 she will head there after her Caribbean season.

Not obstructed views in the cruise industry use of the term [i.e. something located directly outside your window, like a tender or a davit] -- but the first and fourth on each deck will definitely have "tunnel vision" on one side.

Let them call it whatever they want, but it sure looks obstructed to me. Check out this link:

I think it will prevent those cabins aft of it seeing forward too. From those renderings, it appears to protrude quite a way forward from the central area?

If those crossbars will be part of the final product, I think they would be a distraction for those staying in an S3.

We booked AQ10250. Will it be obstructed?

SS cabins do not have the Infinite balcony. We are booked in a S1 aft and the cabin size is 299 sq ft with an 165 sq ft balcony. I think the non aft SS cabins are a bit bigger with a much smaller balcony but larger than the Solstice Class. The S3's all overlook the rails for the Magic Carpet so they have obstructed views.

Hope this helps,

Katie

Sounds lovely! If the ship goes to Europe, we will do the same for a longer cruise. I just have to try out the Infinite veranda, first. :D

The main thing that obstructs to me is the color! I sure hope Celebrity reads the comments about the orange, and decides to make a change to a soothing very light blue or stick with white like the rest of the ship. Princess Grand ships have a huge white wing that is awful, but not as awful had it been painted a wild color. That orange thing reminds me of Carnival!

I'd like to see someone with photoshop skills develop a number of images with the Flying Carpet painted a different color. I'd prefer a design where the vertical tracks are painted to blend into the hull as much as possible (blue on the lower decks and white along the balconies), and the Flying Carpet itself a blend of blue/white, or a sky blue so it contrasts with the hull no matter which deck it is on.

Personally I would prefer it that way too, but I understand what Celebrity is trying to do. They don't want the Magic Carpet to blend in. They want it to stand out, especially to passengers on other ships when in port. A signature feature. All ships are trying to stand out these days, whether it be with hull art, the largest slide on deck, the largest TV screen, or the biggest ropes course. You get the idea. I'm all for subtlety but in the mega-ship arena that doesn't seem possible.

How do the size of these balconies compare in size to the A1 mini balconies on the Millie class?

I did not realize that the Sky Suites did not have the Infinite balcony. :( How does the size of the stateroom compare to a SS on the Solstice class? Smaller, larger, the same?

And does anyone have any insight to what the bathrooms will look like in an Edge and SS class?

I too have wondered about window covering. I assume that the French doors have a tinting so that no one can see in - day or night. But what about harsh sunlight during the day. We try to keep our curtains closed to keep the heat out of our stateroom when in warmer climates.

For those who haven't seen it, a video of a mock up of a Sky Suite bathroom (and rest of the suite) can be found by googling "Celebrity Edge Sky Suite". It was a video made by a travel company so I won't attach the link here. It was very interesting - the bathroom seemed larger than Solstice S1, with a large double sink with a faucet on either end, a toilet separated behind a frosted door within the bathroom, a smallish - looking tub and a window over the sink where you could look into the living space and see the ocean (and I assume can switch it to a mirror).

The living space didn't seem to have a lot of storage, but they may have minimized the cabinets/furniture to make it look bigger. It had a lovely - looking bed and rocker.

The balcony did not look overly large (not an infinite balcony), the chairs were nice but didn't look like they reclined and there weren't footstools, but maybe these chairs were just used for staging.

I am wondering if was representing an S2 because there was a hallway to the living space and the bed was facing the ocean (I think it was Curt who described the S2s with those features?).

In that video, when you go out on the balcony there is a large vertical beam to the left -- so I think this is on the for-most S3 suites.

I hope that I am reading the deck plans incorrectly- but I only see 2 Accessible Aqua staterooms. There are only 4 on each of the Solstice Class ships and they are almost impossible to book. I will be majorly disappointed if there are only 2!

There are 25 total accessible staterooms on EDGE. I'm afraid only two in Aqua Class.

Yes, I posted that yesterday on another Edge thread about the beam, and also the cut out hull type balcony - well that's what it looked like on the video (more like the old type enclosed balconies).

Do the two staterooms (Sky Suite and Edge Infinite), in the real life videos from that You Tube travel agent, look smaller than the Solstice class staterooms? The guy keeps saying that they are larger and I am thinking to myself that they are not. And they certainly do not look as large as the renderings! I have to say that I am disappointed. :(

First of all, I am not a fan of having that window in the bathroom of the SS unless it can be blocked off. Anyone in the main room can look straight in a see into the shower. If you are sharing with a significant other, I guess it's OK, though I don't like it. :o But what if you are sharing the stateroom with a friend or other relative?

Now, I don't have to worry about that window because we have booked an AQ. While the bathroom looks alright in the AQ, I still prefer the layout of the Solstice class baths. And I loved the shelves with the glass doors. At least these Edge class have two sets of shelves. Just wish they were covered.

So, the biggest obstacle that I see in both stateroom classes, for me, is the lack of a dressing table in the stateroom. It may not bother many of you, but I like to sit when putting on make-up and fixing my hair. I cannot do that in the bathroom, especially when my DH is in there shaving or taking a shower and getting everything steamy.:( There is a side chair showing in the Edge stateroom, and it does appear to be in front of a full length lighted mirror, but that's all so crowded and in the way of walking through from the living area to the balcony. And where are my make-up, electric curlers, etc. going to be stored? I am really surprised that a woman designed these staterooms.

The closets do not appear to be any larger than before and the TA seemed to skip over them. The little seashell niche could be put to better use by having some corner shelves there. With the omitting of the overhead bed bins, and unless there is storage built into the sofa, there appears to be a considerable lack of storage in these staterooms.

Finally, the balcony is so tiny, that we will have a hard time getting to it with the bed by the balcony. Going to be fighting those chairs and the French door on the bed side.

Is it just me that's disappointed?

You are never going to please everyone. Personally I love what I see and can't wait to experience EDGE and the Infinite Balcony. The great thing about this industry is that there is something for everyone. Don't like EDGE then sail a Solstice Class. Don't like those then sail the M-Class. Don't like Celebrity then there are 40+ other cruise lines. Truly something to satisfy all tastes.

I have yet to find the perfect ship or cruise line, but I sure like what I see with EDGE. That much I know. Can't wait to find out more regarding dining, shopping, entertainment, spa, fitness, casino, technology, etc. So much more to come!

* I was writing this post as you posted above. I love both the other classes for different reasons, and will probably like this class just as equally. :)

I just looked at the veranda video. Here:

On second look...

If the beds are now true Kings, that could make the room look smaller.

Comparing the rendering and looking at the video, it appears that perhaps there is a pull out table, from the dresser, that will go in front of the mirror, and then the chair can be turned around to use this table as a make-up area. Still going to be tight getting around the bed.

Also, the sofa seems smallish, though I do like that there is more room to enter the closets. But what about the sofa in the staterooms where it is suppose to be a sofa bed? Doesn't look long enough to hold a person. Maybe it folds out instead of being a converta-bed this time.

On second look, the veranda is still small. That rendering video sure made it look much larger!

Here's the Sky Suite:

The video did make the cabin look smaller; but the larger bed does make a big difference. Of course the cabin plus veranda is actually a bit smaller than on an S Class.

Eclipse Cabin 194 Balcony 54 Total 248

Edge Cabin 201 Balcony 42 Total 243

The bed is bigger, the bathroom is supposed to be either 10% or 20% larger, depending on what I have read; and there is supposed to be more storage space. I am certainly not seeing how there can be more or even the same amount of storage space; unless they have drawers under the bed. Since we put our suitcases under the bed, that could be an issue, unless they just have a drawer under one side of the larger bed.

There is still lots to find out, which help fill in he next 21 months till we cruise on her. I think it will be an awesome ship that will very popular.

I need help. We are Royal cruises for the most part, diamond plus members, but really want to try Celebrity. We generally get a junior suite, what is a comparable room with Celebrity. The choices seem confusing, thanks.

We are D+ on Royal too but now find Celebrity SO much better. A Sky Suite is very similar to a JS, however....the Sky Suite comes with a Butler and suite perks, which is really nice.

We concluded the JS on Royal really didn't have any great perks with it, other than the size of the cabin.

Thanks for your input, I keep hearing similar comments. I think we spoke before on another roll call perhaps, you were taking your folks on a cruise I believe. Hope you had a great time, and thanks again.

You have a GREAT memory! I have taken my folks on a few cruises. :D

We have been long time Royal cruisers but we really like the value/perks we get from Celebrity. If you like the JS on Royal, you will love the Sky Suite on Celebrity. We are going on the Edge Jan 27, 2019. I don't think we've ever planned a cruise so far in advance!
