oneputt18 Posted March 21, 2017 #2 Share Posted March 21, 2017 We have participated in numerous slot pulls, it is a fun way to kill a couple of hours on a sea day. We have won, broke even but always managed to recoup our original investment. The biggest win we had was $77 per person.
Baron Barracuda Posted March 21, 2017 #3 Share Posted March 21, 2017 Last month on the Equinox Mardi Gras cruise we had 80 people drop $15 each into a $1 non-progressive wheel of fortune machine. We played 5 spins each at the max $3 bet. After one round of betting our $1200 had shrunk to $400 for a 66% loss :eek: Back in April on Eclipse our 43 person group lost amost 80% in one round on a similar machine.:eek::eek::eek: Maybe these results are outliers, and I still participate in slot pulls for fun, but on my own I stick to table games Saw mention on cc of one group holding a "roulette pull". Curious how that works.
Kartgv Posted March 21, 2017 #4 Share Posted March 21, 2017 We've participated in 2 slot pulls and won't do it again. The first one was OK, fairly small, maybe 20 people and it just felt awkward. Everyone felt obligated to cheer for each person's turn, and after awhile it was very forced. I think we did win about $20 each. The 2nd one was huge, about 75-80 people, so the cheering got really repetitious and dwindled towards the end. It took a long time, with lots of people standing around with nowhere to sit. Other passengers were also obviously annoyed at having so much space monopolized in the casino for so long. Don't think we won anything on that one either. CaroleSS Posted March 21, 2017 #5 Share Posted March 21, 2017 I'm not a gambler, so that might sway my opinion.....although I'm usually an 'all in' kind of person when it comes to activities, I'm not sure I'd do a slot pull. I understand that casinos are money makers - especially on cruise ships! The odds are heavily weighted towards the 'house'. If you go into the event thinking that you will make some money, you will likely be disappointed. If you go into the event thinking that you are paying for the enjoyment and camaraderie, then it's a worthwhile 'investment'. YMMV!!

Wife and I have lost on every one except one where we actually made about $150 each. One of the people in our slot pull was lucky enough to hit a hand pay (over 1200) which we all shared along with the other wins and losses. biguntx Posted March 21, 2017 #9 Share Posted March 21, 2017 What I have found to the real benefit to the slot pull is that after chanting someone's name over and over you find you remember faces and names...I can't then call each person by name when I see them around the ship! jakzak10 Posted March 21, 2017 #10 Share Posted March 21, 2017 We are having one on our April 22, Summit. We are up to 40+ people. Have done and organized a few in the past. Last one was in October on the Conquest, we won a couple of dollars each, but had a blast. The one prior was on the Pride this time we lost a few bucks, the part that sucked the most was that after we were done, the next person on the same machine, the very next pull won 1000.00. mac66 Posted March 22, 2017 #11 Share Posted March 22, 2017 We've done a couple. It was a fun social thing and we met people. We won a couple dollars (literally $2) on one and lost on the other. I would do it again. It's the only time I ever go into the casino on a ship.

Gopher1934 Posted March 22, 2017 #13 Share Posted March 22, 2017 Have done many slots pulls in the past and came up with this different event that has been more fun and something different. Going on the equinox this friday and this is what we will be doing after our connections gathering. I am sure many of you have done a slot pull. This is something different I came up with this idea a while back have done it a few times now and is much more fun than the slot pull. We also last two times gotten back $25 to $35 for our $15 investment. We will plan to do this following the Connections Party. ( Most likely first sea day) I would have the table reserved for our group gather in the Casino pay the $15.00 at that time then buy our chips as a group. then in turn place the bets. I would have it set up ahead of time with the casino host. And normally get prizes from them to raffle off. ( possibly drink tickets shirts or whatever I can get them to contribute). Roulette possibilities Total entry fee $15.00 x 30 people or however many we have play =$450.00 return would be 30 spins 5 numbers each time = 150 Numbers picked 0 numbers hit you lose everything 5 numbers hit return $525.00 By 30 = $17.50 each 10 numbers hit return $1050.00 by 30 = $35.00 each 15 numbers hit return $1,575.00 by 30 = $52.50 each And so on could be a lot of fun something different for most of us Any other questions we will get them taken care of ask on. Roulette On a roulette table they can make a chip equal any dollar amount you choose so in that case we would make each chip equal $3 Each person would have 5 chips to pick numbers they want to use 5 different numbers or all on one number if they choose all on one number. would pay back $525.00 if that number hit. (No side or group bets only straight up numbers)

dkjretired Posted March 22, 2017 #16 Share Posted March 22, 2017 Tax form from which country? Very common for the cruise lines to issue 1099g from the US. If you are a US citizen and win big on a cruise ship you are still responsible to report it and pay the taxes on the win as income on April 15th. We had that amount won each. great fun. Was persuaded to have two more on same cruise. This is a lot of fun but those that think of it as a income item should find something else to do. bboop51 Posted March 24, 2018 #19 Share Posted March 24, 2018 Someone on the roll call for our sailing (Summit April 29th) has organized one. I am not a gambler but we seem to be nice cohesive group and DH said we should join in. Like someone else said, it's a way to kill a bit of time and heck, we could win some $ and it's not much to lose, if we don't. Luvcrusn Posted March 24, 2018 #21 Share Posted March 24, 2018 We did it last year and lost $2 each. Whenever we do them (or go to the casino for that matter) we hope to win, but expect to lose.;) That roulette option sounds like more fun than the slot pull though, more room around a roulette table than a slot machine especially if the Roll Call gets a large turn out. Pretty much my experiences on the last couple. The big one was just out of hand and took too much time in the afternoon. Out of the 3 or 4 we've been in it's been a loss every time. What does that tell you? I'm also conflicted about whether or not to let the casino host know. I think no, but many think you'll get drink vouchers, free play vouchers etc. I think they direct you to a machine they want you to paly.
