Problem with the Cruise Next program offered on board the cruise. Special offer was to buy up to 4 $250.00 credits and NCL would match with 4 bonus credits. Spent $1000 for 4 credits and were specifically assured we would receive $2000 towards our next booking within 4 years. Upon attempting to book a future cruise we were told you can only use 1 $250 credit per booking. NOT what we were told onboard. Supervisor said they would allow us to use 2 credits on next booking as a special. Have requested a refund for the cruise next deposit and cancelled a booking for the Haven. If we are spending over $10,000 on a cruise, it will be a line that stands behind what they say.

Also the CruiseNext program was recently changed to allow 2 certificates to be used when booking a trip 6+ months in advance.

That's what they tell us now but on board we were told they could all be applied at once for a future cruise. I was very specific when confirming this before purchase. Someone had to make a quota that day and basically lied to us.

No idea what the conversation was onboard, but it has always been one per cabin - until they switched to 2 this April. No limit on how many you can buy, but one per cabin. Otherwise people would just buy a bunch - no brainer.

Maybe you mentioned a 2BR haven and they thought you meant two cabins? I have no idea, just asking.

So, now, over $200 (discount on two coupons), you are going to cancel a $10,000 booking? I think we are all missing something here.

You obviously did not read the printed terms including the right to rescind within 30 days after you purchase. Always understand the deal before you buy rather than simply relying on what you were told.

I sympathise if you've been misled, I suspect misinformed by a member of staff who has made a mistake rather than intentionally deceived.

But to cancel a cruise over it? Come on man.

OP, how recently did you purchased these CN certificates onboard - which ship, if you don't mind sharing ??

The rules had recently changed - in short, Insides and Oceanviews are now limited to one (1) CN certificate per new booking / stateroom. Balconies & higher are allowed two (2) CN - there're plenty of written handouts during the week, including & especially during the "sales pitch" presentation in the atrium lobby when we strolled by.

My understanding is that Haven bookings are given the flexibility for using more than one CN as the deposit requirement is higher - of course, lately ... the Reduced Deposit promotion might be confusing for the agent on the line while you tried to book.

Some agents at the call centers are better than other - hang up and call again, speak to a different operator or agent to see if the answer is satisfactory - and/or, escalate up to a supervisor on duty. Sometimes, they are simply reading and following the script in their manual and sales guide, minus the latest changes or special promotional details, etc.

One of my BIL brought 6 CN last month, worth $1,500 but in the end, he was charged just $750 for them as the OBC was applied as an offset - he read the fineprints in writing, asked the question of the CN staff onboard - which apparently had some difficulty explaining it ... in the end, it worked out as a win-win.

They also did not issue any "certificates" or "notice letters" - aside from the itemized charge on the statement/printout ... took several days for them to be posted in the account and the email to be issued by NCL corporate HQ.

BTW, welcome to Cruise Critic.

Here lies the problem. Nothing was given in writing onboard so we did unfortunately rely on the staff. Printed material came after the cruise. Having the proper details we may have purchased 1 or 2 CN, not 8. At the time of purchase the staff member specifically stated $2000 could used on the next booking. Asked him twice and even confirmed with another female staff member to be sure. This was on the Getaway.

The same time as our purchase of four (4) CruiseNext deposits we were given an envelope with the full details and the certificates. The front of the letter told us what we purchased and how long we had to use them and the back detailed the terms and conditions. Even though we were in a suite, no one from CruiseNext suggested the purchase suite certificates. It was still ok for us as we used a certificate and paid the rest for our deposits with no problem at all. We felt it was a great deal as in our minds you purchase two and get two free because of the onboard credit.

Do you have to book onboard to be able to use 2?

I just booked a cruise april 17th and was told I could only use 1 certificate.

I booked a BC balcony.

Thanks

The use of the Cruise Next certificates is pretty basic. And hasn't changed (expect for specials).

I don't think that anyone told the OP something incorrect. Or purposely tried to mislead the OP. The OP may not have understood what they were being told. Or heard what they wanted to hear.

This is what the Gem provided to us 2 weeks ago, FWIW.

#1 below mentioned both CruiseNext and CruiseNext Ultimate (which is good for Haven & suite bookings, per my understanding) ... those of you who book them can speak to it. The form(s) has to be signed & returned/drop off at the CN Office for it to be processed.

If you booked a balcony over 6 months out you can apply a 2nd certificate. I have done this twice recently and I did not book my cruise on board. (I book with Casinos at Sea which can't be booked onboard.)

No, though I believe that is a common misconception. Wait until you get home and search cruises at your leisure.

Who did you book your cruise with? (some TA might not be aware of the new rules). In any event, refer them to the link above - here it is again. https://www.ncl.com/cruisenext

I just booked a cruise a few weeks ago and asked my TA about using 2 since it was for a cruise longer than 7 days and over 6 months out. The first NCL agent told her no, but when she asked again (because I told her that the posts on CC indicated it absolutely could be done), the next agent asked the supervisor and determined that it absolutely COULD be done! :) It never hurts to double-check. Unfortunate that the news is not passed along universally.

If you log into your NCL account and bring up your cruise to make a payment, look for the 'use coupon or credit' button. This should allow you to use a cruise next certificate. You should be able to apply a 2nd cruise next certificate on a cruise that meets the criteria (balcony or above booked at least 6 months in advance of cruise date). It can take a few days after you are home from the cruise to see your certificates listed and able to use.

1. The Getaway shockingly does not provide a private office for CruiseNext transactions; it is quite possible there was a verbal misunderstanding due to the very high ambient noise level.

2. There have been various promotions which have allowed 2 certificates to be applied; notably the European sailings seem to benefit, but I used 2 each on back to back Caribbean cruises last December.

3. Unless something has changed in the past month, the NCL online booking engine has only allowed 1 cert. to be applied; it has been necessary to telephonically request the usage of a second cert.. Occasionally, the value of the second cert. will be applied as a credit to the credit card used rather than as a reduction to the net cruise price paid.

Although the CN can secure a relatively small discount for those booking the higher priced accommodation, they are brilliant when used for "Sailaway" fares, often resulting in close to a 50% discount. This coming week, not for the first time, I'm using 2 CN on a $599 single occupancy fare. Plenty of eligible $399 fares appear, too.

We are going on the Gem in a week and were thinking about buying CruiseNext certificate on board. How does this Special Offer Buy 1 Get 1 Free actually work? I get 1 certificate, pay $250 and get$500 OBCs to spend on board? (I think I need another coffee STAT :)

You pay $250 and get 2 $250 certificates. Nothing to do with OBC except for the fact that that is how they give it to you. For example they will charge your on board account $500 but then credit your onboard account $250. Make sense?

Moby0215 above just answered your question, slow it down - no "Code Alpha" please ... "Condition Blue" was our facility's "signal" LOL.

Basically, each $250 deposit is on sale at 50% off, buy 1 and get 1 free - wording on one of the circular handed out was that you would only get $100 OBC for the first $250 deposit purchased. but 2 deposit would get you $250 OBC - thus, confusion for some folks.

It's either buy one at full face value ($250) and get another one free - or, buy 2 of them worth $500 in total and get OBC of $250 credited back ... I think, I got that down right.

You definitely do not and will not pay $250 and get $750 worth of OBC ... no way, Jose (as they say, LOL) Each person can buy up to 4 or $1,000 worth of deposit (net cost is $500 with the OBC) If there's going to be 2 of you - you can buy a total of 8 deposit, worth $2,000 in face value and the credit cards would be charged only $1,000 - with the OBC credits issued) 4 deposits would be under your name & Latitude #, and 4 deposits would be under your spouse or travel partner/companion's name & Latitude #.

Once you are onboard, take a look and review the actual offers in writing on the Gem, and when in doubt, see one of the 3 CN consultants on the ship - they will be happy to explain it ... as they would be glad to close the sales, especially early in the sailing week.

I have 2 questions,

First, they say each person can buy up to 4 but under certain conditions you may be able to redeem 2 certificates. Is this per person? So if you are booking an inside cabin each person can use a certificate or if booking a balcony each person could redeem 2? Or is redemption per cabin?

Second, it says you can use the certificates for taxes on timeshares, has anyone done this? Share experiences? My parents have the Marriotts vacation club so if I could get $250 (or more) for free I would totally take advantage of this!!
