suebee53 Posted June 30, 2017 #1 Share Posted June 30, 2017 A friend wants to make her own pour-over coffee in her cabin. She found an electric kettle on Amazon for heating water and is asking if that would be okay. I've never had problem with security confiscating my low-end plastic hot pot, but I don't know if an electric kettle would make it through security in her checked bag. Has anyone had any problems with an electric kettle on Carnival?
Laurie S. Posted June 30, 2017 #2 Share Posted June 30, 2017 Not allowed, it will be confiscated.
ray98 Posted June 30, 2017 #3 Share Posted June 30, 2017 Yes....unless they screw up and miss it they will confiscate it because it is a fire hazard.

cb at sea Posted June 30, 2017 #7 Share Posted June 30, 2017 Yes, she can get hot water, but it won't be boiling by the time it gets to her. Perhaps for 1 week she could just drink the coffee onboard!
riffatsea Posted June 30, 2017 #8 Share Posted June 30, 2017 You are not supposed to bring any electric heating appliances of any kind onto the ship. Fires on ships are terrible events!!!!
DebJ14 Posted June 30, 2017 #9 Share Posted June 30, 2017 We have had them in the cabins in the JS and GS categories on Royal Caribbean along with Tazo teas.
gritsnc Posted June 30, 2017 #10 Share Posted June 30, 2017 I bought an electric steamer before I discovered they aren't allowed. I started to try and sneak it but decided to just wear wrinkled clothes instead. I don't have money to be throwing away.
watermelonqueen99 Posted June 30, 2017 #11 Share Posted June 30, 2017 There's a hot water dispenser on Lido. I use it to make iced tea. She could just run up there and get some.
SadieN Posted July 1, 2017 #12 Share Posted July 1, 2017 Room service will deliver carafes of hot water Some will keep the carafe and fill it up on the Lido when needed. Sent from my iPhone using Forums

cbelc Posted July 5, 2017 #14 Share Posted July 5, 2017 Your friend can carry a nice big lidded cup that keeps liquids hot/cold and fill it at the drink stations on board with the hot water meant for tea. She might consider plastic bags for grounds disposal as the trash cans in the rooms have no plastic liner. Be considerate of the room steward. Or just drink that stuff made from syrup like I'm planning to do. Sent from my iPad using Forums
Midwestgal Posted July 5, 2017 #15 Share Posted July 5, 2017 Not allowed, it will be confiscated. As it should be. People need to take fire hazards seriously.

Has anyone had any problems with an electric kettle on Carnival? I'm guessing that your "low end plastic [emoji33]hot pot" has slipped by security - which concerns me greatly. If it has a heating element that sounds like a fire waiting to happen! No one should be taking an sort of prohibited item onboard - especially one with a heating element that could catch fire. This is serious business! A fire at sea is nothing to take a chance with. Sent from my iPhone using Forums
Drazil65 Posted August 26, 2017 #17 Share Posted August 26, 2017 She can call room service and order a carafe of hot water or bring her own container (insulated carafe type) and go to lido and fill it at the hot water/coffee station....
Keys2Heaven Posted August 26, 2017 #18 Share Posted August 26, 2017 What is with the recent rash of threads lately by folks looking to skirt the rules? I can't believe everyone is that daft and hasn't looked at Carnival's site or done a simple google search before popping on here for an ask. I can't believe everyone is that daft and hasn't looked at Carnival's site or done a simple google search before popping on here for an ask. I don't think it's a recent development. Back in Dec of 2013 I made a list of rules that posters were questioning then and it was fairly lengthy. CC mods didn't appreciate my sarcasm and I received a warning letter for being "disruptive to the community".
Purvis1231 Posted August 26, 2017 #20 Share Posted August 26, 2017 the room service coffee is better than the Lido deck coffee so why go to the trouble of making it in the room?

I can't believe everyone is that daft and hasn't looked at Carnival's site or done a simple google search before popping on here for an ask. I don't for one minute think most of the people on here don't look at the website, they more than likely feel the rules don't apply to them. How many times have you read that "Rules are made to be broken?" If you question these people, then it gets to the old argument haven't you ever gone above the speed limit? Anything can be rationalized and justified and the rules breakers take it to the limit. They are far more important than you or I.
