Rare LMaxwell Posted September 3, 2017 #451 Share Posted September 3, 2017 Dinner usually starts at 6pm and thereafter. This isn't even ok for women, after 6pm. Just standards. grapau27 Posted September 3, 2017 #452 Share Posted September 3, 2017 Going to venture a guess that's 11 or 35 notches above a cruise ship main dining room. When we stayed at the Ritz we had a fantastic time and enjoyed the main dining room for dinner as well as going to their famous Champagne Afternoon Tea. grapau27 Posted September 3, 2017 #453 Share Posted September 3, 2017 Bottom line.. IF you have to ask if shorts are appropriate in the dinning room, YOU ALREADY KNOW the answer is no. For us frequent cruisers, we know how to dress appropriate for any occasion. Why wouldn't you want to fix yourself up a bit AND dress the part. You may be on vacation but that's not an excuse to look lazy. Sent from my iPhone using Forums Thats how we think but we don't let other people's attire bother us either. SRF Posted September 3, 2017 #457 Share Posted September 3, 2017 Just got off Grandeur. We only ate in the MDR twice, a nice shirt and long pants. Dress shirt and tie on formal night. One table (not formal night) had two adults, one late teen/early 20s male, and one younger male. All males had shorts on. It just looked strange and out of place. Didn't bother me, but also I did not have a good impression of the group.
KroozNut Posted September 3, 2017 #458 Share Posted September 3, 2017 What exactly is wrong with an outfit like this on casual night Might be appropriate for McDonald's or Burger King, but we don't find those too often on cruise ships.

Re: "Neither should be acceptable for MDR". So, why are they "not acceptable" for MDR? I'm old, and don't understand. I've seen worse on PAX in "proper attire". Enjoy your next cruise. Pstreet12 Posted September 3, 2017 #470 Share Posted September 3, 2017 Obviously, dress codes have become a thing of the past, and I miss them. But "it is what it is." However, I would like for Royal to clarify dress terms to those who do not know the difference between "casual" and "bum" or "disreputable." Grubby looking shorts and t-shirts with cute (or offensive) messages isn't "casual" attire; that constitutes slob attire.

But we're not yet quite willing to go this far as far as dress codes go. However, I would like for Royal to clarify dress terms to those who do not know the difference between "casual" and "bum" or "disreputable." Can you help us out with definitions of your terms?
Husky1987 Posted September 4, 2017 #474 Share Posted September 4, 2017 Having trouble posting pics from the ship, but it was asked in our roll call this week about the Cruise Compass language. Looking at them now, night one has no mention of no shorts in the MDR. Night two is formal (tonight), and it does say "no shorts allowed in the dining room at dinner." Day three (tomorrow), like night one, does not have any "no shorts" language. We haven't gone to the MDR either night so I can't tell you whether the "no shorts" language was enforced tonight.
