moosenaroundtheship Posted July 31, 2017 #1 Share Posted July 31, 2017 Cruising LA to VC arriving on the same ship that will cruise from VC to Seattle the same day. How does immigration work? Do we have to leave the ship?

Do we have to leave the ship? You will not be able to complete your voyages. LA to VC/VC to SEA is a violation of the PVSA. You can not embark in a US city (LA) and disembark in a different US city (SEA) without getting off the ship and spending a night in Vancouver. You could change ships. paul929207 Posted July 31, 2017 #3 Share Posted July 31, 2017 As posted above, the cruises you are talking about are a violation of the Passenger Vessel Service Act. So immigration is not important
Rare martincath Posted July 31, 2017 #4 Share Posted July 31, 2017 ^Yup - Princess are to be frank godawful at weeding out illegal cruises on their booking engine and seem to rely on some kind of manual audit every so often. You WILL eventually be contacted by them to say you have to choose one of these cruises to ditch, but it could be soon or in a very long time. Get it sorted now instead before you have booked anything non-refundable! Caveat - if you're doing LA to Vancouver to Seattle to lots-of-B2Bs-then-back-to-LA-or-to-a-non-US-port the entire trip could be legal, it's all about the first and last port. But if you're trying to just tag on the 1-day Van-Sea repo then you are hooped. Edit - since I'd guess you'll keep the longer trip, you may need still info about Canadian immigration! Basically we're not really much different than US immigration - speak to an agent, answer some usually-token questions about why you're visiting and for how long and if you're bringing anything you plan to leave in Canada (or that's illegal to bring in at all). The real big difference is that we take certain criminal matters much more seriously than the US does - so if you have a misdemeanour on your US record you may be forbidden entry to Canada. The most common issue is DUI - this is always a criminal offence here...
Colo Cruiser Posted July 31, 2017 #5 Share Posted July 31, 2017 Cruising LA to VC arriving on the same ship that will cruise from VC to Seattle the same day. How does immigration work? Do we have to leave the ship? Have to either change ships or be off the ship for 24 hours.
skynight Posted July 31, 2017 #6 Share Posted July 31, 2017 Ditto what others have posted. You will not be allowed to sail as you describe. It is a violation of U.S. law.

Astro Flyer Posted August 1, 2017 #8 Share Posted August 1, 2017 Cruising LA to VC arriving on the same ship that will cruise from VC to Seattle the same day. How does immigration work? Do we have to leave the ship? thank you every one. I had not booked anything, so this was very helpful. As I understand the PVSA you could depart the ship in Vancouver and get to Seattle (bus) to stay there overnight. The next day in Seattle you could reboard the same ship to sail a roundtrip Seattle cruise to Alaska. That's something we're considering when 2019 Alaska schedules are released...LA/Vancouver cruise, bus to overnight hotel in Seattle, sail roundtrip to Alaska, fly home from SEA. Rare 1025cruise Posted August 1, 2017 #9 Share Posted August 1, 2017 Glad you hadn't booked yet. Unfortunately, sometimes Princess doesn't catch this until just before the cruise leaving you stranded.
LeeW Posted August 1, 2017 #10 Share Posted August 1, 2017 Note that we really like taking these short cruises, but we stay a few days in Vancouver in the middle. One of our favorite cities to visit! You would have the same problem sailing from LA to Vancouver to Anchorage - not allowed! You can swap to a different ship on the same day in Vancouver legally (our son has done your itinerary on two ships). He did the Seattle-Vancouver and separate Vancouver-San Francisco sailing solo and got 4 cruise credits in 4 days.
