S&S Cruisers 1983 Posted August 13, 2017 #1 Share Posted August 13, 2017 We will be on the Explorer of the Seas in September and was looking at the dress code for the Windjammer. The RCL website states "Attire Casual Restrictions Fully covered shoes..." Does this mean that you cannot wear sandals in the Windjammer? Not flip flops, but sandals. Is this true? WELDON Posted August 13, 2017 #2 Share Posted August 13, 2017 You can wear sandals in the windjammer. I always do, even my sandals that I wear to the pool. Sandals are worn everywhere on the ship.

Langley Cruisers Posted August 13, 2017 #7 Share Posted August 13, 2017 It does say that! Shocking. :o OP, as mentioned, sandals and flip flops are absolutely fine.
Esilef Posted August 13, 2017 #8 Share Posted August 13, 2017 On Australian based cruises they allow you to wear your thongs in the Windjammer..... Sent from my iPad using Forums
Esilef Posted August 13, 2017 #9 Share Posted August 13, 2017 Laughing at the thought that some may think of Australians in their undies at the buffet..... Thongs are Australian for flip flops. Sent from my iPad using Forums
Mcdonaldbam Posted August 13, 2017 #10 Share Posted August 13, 2017 I think it is a poorly worded statement. I believe what they meant was that you need to be fully covered (no swimsuits), shoes and shirt required.
nelblu Posted August 13, 2017 #11 Share Posted August 13, 2017 I think it is a poorly worded statement. I believe what they meant was that you need to be fully covered (no swimsuits), shoes and shirt required. I wear sandals and bathing suit (dry) to the WJ and occasionally in the MDR at lunch and breakfast.
cb at sea Posted August 13, 2017 #12 Share Posted August 13, 2017 You may wear sandals...not rubber flip flops, although folks still do that. Most women's shoes in warm climes are "strappy" foot-baring shoes! I have "thong"style heels!

ONECRUISER Posted August 13, 2017 #14 Share Posted August 13, 2017 I've actually witnessed both kinds of THONGS in the windjammer, one wore on feet one a swimsuit. At least she wore a cover up but it was very thin...
S&S Cruisers 1983 Posted August 13, 2017 Author #15 Share Posted August 13, 2017 Good to know I can wear my sandals. I guess you could call them strappy sandals. I will bring some flip flops for around the pool also, however my thong will stay at home. I also pictured people from Australia wearing thongs in the buffet! Ocean Dancer Posted August 13, 2017 #17 Share Posted August 13, 2017 Rubber flip flops and bathing suits are fine, you just need a cover up.
Langley Cruisers Posted August 13, 2017 #18 Share Posted August 13, 2017 (edited) You may wear sandals...not rubber flip flops... Incorrect, again. Any passenger can wear flip flops on board a cruise ship, anywhere they want. I have seen them and even worn them in the Windjammer, main dining room, theater, ice skating show, lounges, bars, the Diamond Lounge, specialty restaurants, mini golf course. I think the only places they are absolutely NOT permitted are zip line, rock climbing wall, basketball court, and maybe a few other areas on the new ships which I have not yet seen. I have some on my feet right now. They are from Old Navy, lavender, size 9. :D Edited August 13, 2017 by Langley Cruisers

katiel53 Posted August 13, 2017 #20 Share Posted August 13, 2017 I think what they are trying to say, albeit worded poorly, is that one must wear shoes, not allowed bare feet. That, at least, makes more sense to me.
martiepete Posted August 15, 2017 #21 Share Posted August 15, 2017 Had to look it up when I saw the same notice for the Anthem "covered shoes"!!! Had no problem on the Harmony in December. No flip flops on the zip line, understandable that they might fall off.
dcgrumpy Posted August 15, 2017 #22 Share Posted August 15, 2017 I wear rubber flip flops in the Windjammer. If we're at the pool I throw on a cover up and my flip flops and go in to get some lunch.
S&S Cruisers 1983 Posted August 17, 2017 Author #23 Share Posted August 17, 2017 It did seam strange to have to wear covered shoes. Glad that's not a problem.

I never even realized that was in the dress code. Both my husband and I have worn flip flops & sandals in Windjammer, and never were questioned. In the main dining room, I've worn everything from flipflops to sandals to heals...
