slidergirl Posted August 26, 2017 #51 Share Posted August 26, 2017 I've worked in too many hotels, touch too many elevator buttons, handled too many pieces of luggage to worry. I will say I've had Noro once, and it happened at a Forbes 4 Star, AAA 5 Diamond hotel. I wanted to thank the guest who I had contact with who passed it to me :oPart of the price I have paid dealing daily with hundreds of strangers. We can't work the Front Desk or do Bell duties wearing masks and gloves...
cruzincurt Posted August 26, 2017 #52 Share Posted August 26, 2017 We do knuckles and don't touch the handrails. As for the elevator "door close" button don't waste your time as they are rarely connected to anything. If the casino chips are clay based, cleaning is a very complicated process so I assume they are probably never cleaned let alone disinfected. So as someone mentioned earlier, we keep our hands from our faces in the casino until we leave and do a good wash up. DirtyDawg Posted August 26, 2017 #53 Share Posted August 26, 2017 I am fortunate that I don't suffer from germophobia. Many years since I have been ill or seen a doctor, so maybe I have been lucky or developed immunity by exposure to germs. After year's of working with hazardous waste the thing is = Do Not Touch Yourself! Keep you finger away from your mouth, out of your nose , Do Not rub your eye's, your ear's or A-- . Very true. Keep your finger away from the ASTERN of the ship. Very nasty back there.

dsrdsrdsr Posted August 26, 2017 #55 Share Posted August 26, 2017 Is it scientifically proved that knuckles are immune to germs? I push buttons as normal, with fingers, even when norovirus is about. I've never caught it. Maybe because I'm the only one touching the buttons? PS - anyone who hates to touch objects tat other people have touched, let me know next time we're queueing in the same shop - I'll be happy to look after your change! lenquixote66 Posted August 26, 2017 #56 Share Posted August 26, 2017 I'm definitely a "knuckler", not just on cruises but anytime I use an elevator. I also NEVER touch a bathroom door handle after I wash my hands. I try not to touch the handrails. Can't say that I pay attention to which hand I use at the buffet but now you've given me something else to think about on my next cruise! I carry Purell with me nearly every day . I recently bought 11 bottles .

Sent from my B3-A30 using Forums mobile app Elbows are a good idea, because it's impossible to lick your elbow so you'll be all right. Cash may have been abolished in Florida, but it hasn't in the UK.
Eggfrmr Posted August 29, 2017 #59 Share Posted August 29, 2017 I never remember to be cautious and I am rarely sick. I wash my own hands often but not excessively. I believe that there are more "good" germs out there then bad and I have built up a pretty heathy immune system. Sent from my iPhone using Forums Same here. We also live on a farm and regularly handle lots of things others would find offensive. Sent from my LG-H812 using Tapatalk
css5 Posted August 29, 2017 #60 Share Posted August 29, 2017 I'm not a germophobe, but whenever I see the buffet serving utensil laying in the food, I always try to take food from the back of the tray. Some buffets have a dish off to the side to place the utensil in - they all should!
JTBCruiser Posted August 29, 2017 #61 Share Posted August 29, 2017 Yep I knuckle elevator buttons on and off the cruise ship. I use a paper towel to open bathroom doors. I can't tell you the amount of guys who go then walk out without washing their hands. Not a germophobe but cone on now. :loudcry:

Strophic Posted August 29, 2017 #66 Share Posted August 29, 2017 I am not bothered by elevator buttons, railings, or other things that are touched by a lot of people. I just don't think there is a lot of risk to pushing elevator buttons in the first place, and even less risk that will actually be mitigated by using your knuckle instead of your fingertip to push it. I wash my hands a couple times throughout the day and otherwise I just don't think about germs very much. I don't get sick often, so it works for me. Slugsta Posted August 29, 2017 #67 Share Posted August 29, 2017 Like the previous poster, I take no special precautions and have not come down with anything (on or off cruise) for many years.

CantanaLobo Posted August 29, 2017 #69 Share Posted August 29, 2017 I actually do use my elbow when I can. :DI used to not worry about it - then one cruise I got noro. Now I also use my elbow - I haven't figured out how to accidentally pick my nose with my elbow, or otherwise get my elbow touching my face. Knuckles are way too easy to make a mistake. iancal Posted August 30, 2017 #71 Share Posted August 30, 2017 We usually take the stairs. If we do take the elevator I typically knuckle the buttons. We avoid touching the handrails and we avoid any/all open food items in the buffet. And we avoid public restrooms on the ship. We are never sick, travel often, eat street food in Asia, etc. I don't know if we have built up resistance to bugs or not. But we are not taking any chances. Most especially if we are going to be on as ship for 2-3 weeks.
