UKCruiseJeff Posted March 1, 2018 #2076 Share Posted March 1, 2018 Good Afternoon All ... from an extremely white Southern England. We had temperatures overnight down to around -12 and we found ourselves snowed in this morning. `we live on a steep hill and that meant nothing comes in or goes out so our pneumonia jabs have been rescheduled. The last time this happened a few years ago 4x4s with good tyres were defeated by our hill but Ocado nonchalantly nudged it's way up the hill and delivered our food. I'm using is as an excuse to make French bread and today was a supermarket cottage pie with caramelised red onion pork sozzies with small chunk Branston with wine from the box. It is really lovely to see the genuine heart-felt depth of support from Coolers for JP and Chris going through something so many of us understand and feel for. The interweb can be good at times. rosepark Posted March 1, 2018 #2077 Share Posted March 1, 2018 Perhaps there is a opportunity for Ocado to have medics on their vans to administer jabs and consultations along with the groceries. However, they might also go through the shopping and remove all the goodies. Maybe not such a good idea Rp
bissel Posted March 1, 2018 #2078 Share Posted March 1, 2018 The loss of a longtime animal companion brings a pain of tremendous force. I am sorry for your loss of Ashley and know sweet memories will often come unbidden and bring you comfort, smiles and joy. Your stunning photograph of Ashley nestling in that beautiful flowing hair, with similar coloring entwining both figures, and those huge and deeply expressive eyes takes my breath away. It is just beautiful.
Rare jpalbny Posted March 1, 2018 #2079 Share Posted March 1, 2018 I agree with Jeff - thank you, everybody, for the kind words and all of the empathy. It is incredible how deeply these little critters burrow into your heart and your lives, and how much they are missed. It is comforting to know that there are so many others who can relate to what we are going through. Thank you all. Your sentiments mean a lot to us. Rosepark, it is definitely a good idea to keep the medical staff away from your grocery selections - I agree! Otherwise the delivery might consist of rice cakes and tofu! I would hate to see what they think of my grocery cart...or of the wine cellar. ;p Hope the weather and the roads in England recover soon. We are thinking about going to Pennsylvania this weekend to see Chris's Dad but there is an ugly weather system forecast for tonight into tomorrow - of course! We shall see what develops. UKCruiseJeff Posted March 1, 2018 #2080 Share Posted March 1, 2018 Well, the snow is getting quite thick now..... I have no idea why the snow gives me so much pleasure. It really is magical. I did a stock take today of my vintage cigar humidors which I have been very disciplained about keeping to around 67% humidity and 70f and a quick web price check has shocked me at how much officiandos are paying for some of the vintages that I have. I guess that will have a smugness dimension to my summer smoking. There are around a couple of thousand cigars spread over several humidors. These are two of the six I have filled in case there are any other Coolers who like and wish to share them with me .... :) Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
Rare Tothesunset Posted March 1, 2018 #2081 Share Posted March 1, 2018 There's nothing moving locally - apparently all the major routes in and through Lincolnshire are either impassable or blocked by stuck/abandoned vehicles. What always strikes me at such times is a. we live in the flattest part of England so how can the road network be defeated by 3 inches of snow and b. how selfish of people to go out (unless absolutely necessary) and block the routes for emergency vehicles. Some fool tried to get up our lane in a Ford Fiesta earlier and slid into the verge. Spun the wheels mercilessly to try to get out and, of course, just dug two wheel-sized holes in the verge. Local farmer's tractor got him out with only a smattering of cursing and swearing. And S-i-L has messaged to say that her Central Heating boiler has gone phut! Can't get anyone out because they live on a steep hill in South Wales where they are expecting very heavy snowfalls. I tell you, 3 flakes of snow and the UK simply stops! Oh, and Ireland is closed too as of midday in anticipation of storm-driven heavy snow. All schools, public offices, transport etc shut for next 24 hrs. Thank goodness we don't get winter every year. MBP&O2/O Posted March 1, 2018 #2082 Share Posted March 1, 2018 A true story .... I heard the tape! Some time ago in West Yorkshire the Police had a ‘Snow Log’ on the ‘open incidents’. All maters of note were recorded on a single log and anybody in the force could access this log to see what was happening. Call received in the early hours .. Caller: Nah then lad .... am stuck. It’s reet deep and pretty bad. Handler: Where are you? Caller: Greenfield Road ... just out of Holmfirth. Handler: Don’t worry ... the plough is on his way to that location as we speak. Caller: Nay lad ... tha’ doon’t understand .. Handler: Understand what? Caller: I am driving the f*****g plough and I’m stuck. Holmfirth is renowned for ‘Last of the Summer Wine’ and it snows in summer.[emoji3] Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
Joc123 Posted March 1, 2018 #2083 Share Posted March 1, 2018 I have been off line because we have spent the summer at our Shack (beach house) on the beautiful Yorke Penninsula, Hardwicke Bay to be precise. It is 2 1/2 hours drive from Adelaide but the internet is patchy at best, a bit like being on a ship! JP and Chris, I know how you feel. It’s dreadful. I have 3 little pots in my wardrobe with our cocker spaniels in them because I can’t bear to be far from them - we lost the first 27 years ago! We no longer have a dog but are on call to dogsit Lilly - another cocker spaniel belonging to our son. The best of all worlds. JP, are you still coming to Adelaide? If so you have timed the trip perfectly, the weather is beautiful. The Festival season is in full swing and vintage is about to start. It is a little late this year due to the slightly more humid weather over summer but it should be a good year for our red varieties. I guess you are all organised, but if I can help just ask. Rare Lois R Posted March 2, 2018 #2086 Share Posted March 2, 2018 (edited) It's a real shame, considering how important the appointment clearly is to you that you couldn't have made it a greater priority and found a few moments. :( Today was month end closing for me........it is my busiest day of the entire month....so no, I had no time to call and set up anything. As for the pain.......It has been going on for 3 months so a priority for it? I am living with it every day..........one more day will not make any difference. I will just deal with it.. Rare jpalbny Posted March 2, 2018 #2087 Share Posted March 2, 2018 Lois I hear you. There are days when you're so buried in your work that the day is over before you realize it. I am hell-bent on not letting stuff pile up on me, so I will go like crazy at times when I need to. That usually serves me well, unless more work keeps coming in, and I don't let myself stop. Those days it is tough to even think about anything else. So I understand why you might not have time for even a phone call. Hope you can get to the bottom of this! Nothing is more important than your health. DH is a medico and thinks he is indispensable. I tell him in years to come his patients will say, “ I saw a Cardiologist, can’t think of his name”. I tell him in years to come his patients will say, “ I saw a Cardiologist, can’t think of his name”. Put yourself first because if you don’t who will? Some give the regular impression that things "keep going wrong" whilst at the same time not doing all they reasonably and sensibly can to avoid the unexpected happening. However, you can only gently make the suggestion as it really is no one elses business. :)

Rare spinnaker2 Posted March 2, 2018 #2096 Share Posted March 2, 2018 and even if you do call, they may not get back to you... i have been calling the docs office since Monday for a surgical appointment. Each day they say they will have the scheduler call me back at the end of the day. No call. i gather i am now "that annoying woman", but i really need to get this done. DH, the doc says, get another doc.

Rare spinnaker2 Posted March 2, 2018 #2098 Share Posted March 2, 2018 Might he know one? ;) Doctors. Sometimes they drive me bonkers. JP, we both go to the same specialist. It's not the good doc it's his staff. They want sympathy from me, as each time they say, "you have no idea how busy we are", as if that will excuse the lack of follow up. Well I kinda do know, I get I am not an emergency, but jeez. Don't promise something you can't deliver. Camillus112 Posted March 3, 2018 #2099 Share Posted March 3, 2018 Hello Coolers, in my neck of Central New York we already have 15 inches and rising since it is not yet over! Running like a headless chicken today, with so much to do before Sunday when we leave for Seville. Lois, years ago before retirement I supervised month end closing and can also relate to you that way. Wow, three's company in a shared line of work in the Cooler counter. The fun part is that I posted this erroneously on JP'S Silver Explorer's thread, and all readers will think I'm nuts, or at least weird...which in a small way I think I am... Rare jpalbny Posted March 3, 2018 #2100 Share Posted March 3, 2018 Cam, I got a chuckle out of it. No worries! Hope the snow has stopped. It seems to have settled down here for the moment. We were going to drive to Philly tonight but we decided to wait. So we had dinner out and now time for wine and hot tub, I think. If it doesn't freeze too much overnight we'll try tomorrow.
