deec Posted November 9, 2017 #1 Share Posted November 9, 2017 We will have one night in Singapore. What should we do? Ride the giant ferris wheel? Hire a guide? Wander a night market? What roof top bar will provide the best view? Will cabs take a Credit card?
G.M.T. Posted November 9, 2017 #2 Share Posted November 9, 2017 Go to Sentosa Island and see the light show, then go to the Hawker Food market on the roof of Vivo Shopping Mall. Marine Bay Sands Hotel, roof top for a gigantic view. Pay cash in cabs.
Rare Keith1010 Posted November 9, 2017 #3 Share Posted November 9, 2017 I also like the idea of Sentosa Island. Some people may recommend the night safari. I did it once and thought it was just so so. Keith
Rare MMDown Under Posted November 9, 2017 #4 Share Posted November 9, 2017 you might like to go to Chinatown, where they close a street and set up stalls for evening meals. We ate at a nearby brick building full of food stalls, which was cheaper. I picked the longest queue and had a memorable meal of chicken and rice (only choice). I later learnt this shop, which is famous for its good food, has one hat.
roaming_kiwi58 Posted November 11, 2017 #5 Share Posted November 11, 2017 We also loved the light show with the cranes at Sentosa Island. Also the light show in the giant trees at Gardens By the Bay. The Marina Bay Sands Hotel rooftop has amazing views day and night.
Rare Hlitner Posted November 11, 2017 #6 Share Posted November 11, 2017 Going to the zoo at night it quite special. Many animals are nocturnal, but most zoos (around the world) close at night). Singapore is a wonderful exception. Hank
deec Posted November 12, 2017 Author #7 Share Posted November 12, 2017 Thanks for the great tips. Will taxis take Credit Cards and are there Van like vehicles for 6 adults?
G.M.T. Posted November 12, 2017 #8 Share Posted November 12, 2017 Not all taxis take creit cards, those that do accept them do not take all cards. Also there can be a 10% surcharge for their use. Taxi drivers do not like to tacredit cards as it can be up to two weeks bere they are imbursed. Get cash from a ATM. Any Singapore $ can be changed back either at Changi or cruise terminal. Vans are available but have to normally be pre-booked.
Kelownacruiser Posted November 12, 2017 #9 Share Posted November 12, 2017 Singapore has Uber which only takes credit cards.
RJHNorthyorks Posted November 12, 2017 #10 Share Posted November 12, 2017 We enjoyed watching the free light show across the harbour which we watched from outside the Marina Bay Sands shopping mall. Just follow the crowds. The metro in Singapore is very easy to use. Safe, clean and staff are very helpful.
Ashland Posted November 13, 2017 #11 Share Posted November 13, 2017 A trip to Singapore wouldn't be complete (at least for us) without eating at Lau Pa Sat...for the best satay ...they start this amazing offering at 6:30pm nightly where they close off a street...Google Lau Pa Sat to see what you don't want to miss. It is near the Buddha Tooth Temple. Favourite stall is H K Soya Sauce Chicken Rice and Noodles #02-127 from 10.30 am (Michelin Star Hawker Stall). The choice of Chinese food available at stalls in this complex is enormous.
deec Posted November 19, 2017 Author #13 Share Posted November 19, 2017 Keep these great tips coming. Is a river ride a "must do" what about the giant ferris wheel or observation deck! Maybe a drink at Marina Bay Sands Hotel would be a better option for great views. It will be a Sunday night, does that make a difference?

Maybe a drink at Marina Bay Sands Hotel would be a better option for great views. It will be a Sunday night, does that make a difference? I think Marina Bay Sands Hotel is better to look at, from a distance, as great architecture, rather than to go up for a drink and the view. It cost $17 S. single admittance for Senior in 2012. The museum downstairs is interesting architecture as well. Gardens by the Bay is illuminated twice a night.

cruiserinsg Posted December 1, 2017 #19 Share Posted December 1, 2017 Thanks for the great tips. Will taxis take Credit Cards and are there Van like vehicles for 6 adults? Most taxi do take credit cards but best ask them before you board. There are also Limo Taxi which charges a flat fare of sgd$50 per trip. Get the Grab taxi app may be useful if you going to a few places otherwise lots of Taxis around.
edinburgher Posted December 3, 2017 #20 Share Posted December 3, 2017 If you opt for Sentosa, you can do only one light and sound show. The one we saw was very enjoyable. If you want to try for two, check the timings at Marina Bay Sands and Gardens by the Bay. We watched the Gardens one first, then turned around and hurried into the Marina Bay one for the full show there. Of the three, the Gardens is probably the least exciting, but pretty enough nonetheless.
