Family found hidden camera in their cab in on Carnival ship.

My question is, just exactly could anyone "hide" a camera in the first place. Because of how cabins are constructed, air ducts are the only possible location. Inoperable means the battery is dead. Last week, last year or three years ago no way of knowing.

If I had to bet, I think a spouse was suspicious of a mate cruising solo and hired private investigator

I think you idea is highly unlikely. That would be an expensive hired investigator, She would have to pay for a cruise for that PI to sit for days doing nothing for her after he set up the camera. And for possibly nothing of value recorded. It is also unlikely that he would have been able to access the room to set it up.

It could have been set up by parents to monitor their kids in the next room. A wireless camera could beam the view to a receiver and recorder in the parents room. And with the chaos of packing and leaving the ship, dealing with trying to get the kids to pack their stuff may have distracted them and they forgot to retrieve it.

As for the cost, a camera like this can be purchased for less than $30. Not much of a loss if left behind after its use was over.

...

I recall,on several ships, there being a mass of wiring just below the TV screen. A small camera could easily be hidden in/behind that.

Both very possible explanations. Since we are speculating on who left the camera in the Carnival cabin, with the dead battery, I'm going to go with with Professor Plum - he's absent minded enough to forget his camera. :D

Of course it could also have been Inspector Clouseau who was running surveillance on the the Phantom it see if he could recover the Pink Panther.:)

Kids on spring break or a middle aged Australian cruise fanatic.....?:o ;)

This thread has convinced this middle aged ++ Canuck to get one of those spy cameras for my next cruise. I will point it out towards the cabin so I can play back where the heck I put stuff the day before. Great device for Senior's moments.:D:D

I have one attached to a headband for that very reason. I wear it all the time. It even comes in handy to find where I parked my car at the shopping mall.

BEST two Ideas I've heard in ages...... I am constantly playing lost and found. If I put a hand on it there is every chance I will never see it(whatever item I am looking for) again. :) I need a camera tracking my every move for ME t o play back. Why has no senior facility , AARP or creative geriatric MD. started marketing cameras attached to to hats, ball caps, visors, headbands ? Entrpeneurs out there........ This is a sure money maker. (Go on Shark tank)

These things would sell themselves.

Great idea - but I would still need some way of being reminded to “go to the videotape”.

Perhaps that is why they did it but forgot the camera anyway.

Two things alarm me here. One, we have no idea who installed this camera. Most people seem to think it was a passenger but I find it odd that a passenger would know exactly what cabling/wiring to bring in order to hook it up to the stateroom tv power supply and broadcast to the ship's wifi. Personally, I think its more likely this was someone on the ship. I also think CCL feels that way based on their silence in this matter.

The second thing is the replies on the CCL board. I can't believe how many people blow this off as either fake news or they don't care if a hidden camera was in their room.

I think part of what's driving the "I don't care" posts is that our society is too used to cameras being everywhere. Surveillance is such a big thing that we don't even notice it any longer.

:confused: So that means I'll have to bring a second camera to record me placing the first camera so I don't forget the first camera. Got it. Of course, how the hell am I going to remember I brought the second camera? ........... Camera # 3 of course!

God, I sure hope Costco sells multi packs of these cameras.:D

Darn it, where is that Costco again?:confused:

It doesn't need to be Wi-Fi like on your phone. It could be a wireless camera and receiver pair that comes set on it's own frequency. These have been available for over twenty years, long before Wi-Fi as we know it became common.

The wireless camera only needs power. That is no more difficult than plugging in your toaster. A receiver is needed to view the image. Again, all it needs is power from a cord. A cable to the TV or recorder is the only other wiring necessary. I used one many years ago to monitor a play area for my pets. It was pretty easy to set up. At the receiving end, I simply connected the video cable to the TV's input fitting so I could keep an eye on the pets.

Anyone with experience on how to plug in a lamp cord can set these up.

I agree with the simplicity. I use these cameras in my profession. But the rigging in this case didn't look so simple.

I still find it very unlikely that a passenger would set this up and then forget it. I'm not saying it's not possible but all things considered, I think the likelihood is more on a CCL staff member.
