Reserving chairs / loungers beside the pool

Disagree!!! You are confusing chair hogs and those actually occupying a lounger. I'm a lounge lizard and like to sit in a lounger all day while enjoying the sun and drinks. A chair hog is one that puts their crap on a lounger and leaves it vacated for lengths of time. That's the topic here.

well I think if you've been on a lounger for 3 hours and there are other people at the pol area waiting for loungers then it is only fair you 'give up your seat' and let someone else have it

Now that's funny. Not happening. Good luck with that. I will usually sit in the same lounger from approximately 9:00 AM until approximately 2:00 PM on sea days. You are definitely mistaking occupied loungers and chair hogs. I am not a chair hog! I will admit I'm a HOG of another breed. I ride a Harley Davidson.

And if you're assigned a nice table in the dining room you should perhaps allow someone else to have that table after a few days? Can I boot you out of your seat in one of the bars if you've been sitting there a while?

If you have a seat on a train and someone else is standing do you think it is only fair that you give it up to someone standing.

If you're using the sun lounger why should you have to give it up just because someone else wants one. Who will record the time I arrive and Police the scheme over 2-3 decks across the whole ship. The sun loungers are there for everyone to use if you arrive at the right time. I think your suggestion is unworkable

Wow! That's a suggestion sure to start animated debate!

It is obvious that one of the major shortcomings of cruiseships is the ratio of loungers to pax.

I don't understand why some of the experts can't figure out a new way of designing the area.

Hopefully' date=' on the new Edge ship there will be a better solution.

Our solution...we enjoy the pool area on port days. We could "hog 10 chaises if we wanted and not inconvenience anyone!!!![/quote']

I think if you increase the number of loungers other money making areas of the ship might suffer. The casino and shops for instance.

The Alcoves take up quite a bit of space. On the cruises we take (outside school holidays) the basketball court always looks underused. I suspect the ships have plenty of sunloungers for cruises to Northern Europe / Baltic.

I have no doubt there is space for more. I was just thinking with the Gordon Gekko "Greed is good" side of my brain.

but the loungers are there for everyone's enjoyment - not just for a few who want to spend all day in them..... IMO that's being inconsiderate.....

no because you're assigned a table in the MDR - you're not assigned a lounger by the pool

But you're suggesting introducing a major policy change so why can't I ?

Also if you're on anytime dining can't you request the same table each evening at the same time.

Just might be worth taking that first cruise and seeing how much of an issue this really is for you before requesting major rule changes for your benefit.

With a bit of flexibility on where exactly you want to lie down you'll probably find a couple of sunloungers somewhere pleasant at any time. If you absolutely must be in a certain spot facing a certain direction then you need to get there early - no different to getting a decent seat in the theatre. You'll almost certainly always find a couple of seats but if you want the best ones at a popular show you might need to get there early.

OMG, I can't believe you would try to equate a true chair hog who plops down a rumpled towel and a flip flop to "reserve" a lounger for hours to someone who is actually using the lounger longer than you like. What's your usage limit? How about someone who squats on a chair in the atrium while reading a book? If they put the book down would you kick them out of the chair since it's there for the use of all passengers? How about someone who stands at the railing to watch the ocean? How about the person with a little GI trouble who occupies the bathroom stall too long for your liking? Do you get your knickers in a twist when someone parks their car in the same spot all day? Geez..;p

We had an instance at a hotel some years ago with chair hogs out early in the morning with their towels and then off to town. We solved the problem during our stay very easily as we returned the towels to the pool guy. At this hotel one had to sign for ones towels and if they weren't returned one got charged an arm and a leg for them. After a couple of days of huge towel costs the practice stopped very quickly. We didn't bother getting the towels signed back in by the way

When you point that one finger at someone and call them inconsiderate for sitting in a lounger longer than what you believe they should be and they are not breaking any cruise line policy or rules look down and see who the other three fingers are pointing back at.

I never expressed or implied the loungers no matter the location or time of day aren't for everyone's enjoyment. Totally agree with you on that. But why would you believe that someone who already is occupying a lounger now needs to surrender it to someone who strolls out later in the morning/day? You even said in your original post, "I thought the chairs / loungers would be on a first in first served basis". All the cruises I've been on never once did a pool attendant approach me and tell me I've exceed a time limit for sitting in a lounger in the sun. Nor have I ever read in any cruise line daily or have seen a time limit posted for the pool decks for relaxing in a lounger. I don't know how many cruises you've been on but if you are speaking from a bad past experience bummer. Let me suggest getting out to the pool deck earlier in the day or find another location further from the pool.

Sorry if you cant get up early enough to get a lounger and someone else is lying on the lounger you want TOUGH. Next you will be wanting someone sitting on a chair in the sky lounge to get up and move because you want that chair. There are plenty of loungers on the ship not all are in favourable spots at particular times of the day.

How long do you consider an acceptable time to lie in a lounger? Remember if sitting on a pool lounger is so important to you choose a port day when demand is low

Not assigned a chair or table in Select Dining...

One of the things I look forward to on a cruise is lounging on sea days in the Solarium. I'm not moving because someone thinks I've been there too long. Not happening

We use clips to hold towel on lounger when windy not as a reserve sign ,really useful on beach visits, did see some really bad lounger rage!!!on our last cruise, staying in a hotel in Spain few years ago actually saw some guys take loungers into their apartment overnight ...

I thought we were talking about people putting stuff on multiple loungers and then disappearing for possibly hours and expecting the lounger to be available when they finally showed up.

If someone is actually using it, even for the whole day, then that is fine! Making loungers unavailable because some time in the future you might want it, to me, is not acceptable. Use it or lose it.

Really? Policing all of this is impossible. There are quite a few cruisers that just feel entitled to a lounger period. We all know those people; however, one could argue forever about what should be and what shouldn’t be, but if you want one badly enough, you just have to get out early...just don’t stay in the sun too long, as you will get burned!

There's just slightly less than a gazillion lounge chairs on these ships. For some reason most people want to park themselves near the pool. Even though it seems most of them are allergic to water. Some of them also like to complain about the noise, music or other shenanigans that go on around the pool. I've always been a bit confused by this. If you want peace and quiet or you are not going to be using the pool there are many other spots to soak up the sun. The front of the ship has loads of lounge chairs and finding one there is usually not a problem or get a towel and lay on the grass.

And what about skin cancer? Between 11am and 4 pm, the sun is not our friend.

AS a Melanoma patient who has spoken to several dermatologist, its' not your friend no matter when, many dermotologists consider sunbathing to be the new smoking. Also, before anyone says it, the concept of a base tan is a major myth...
