Pursuit Refit

Catching up with all this good news as we are currently on another ship off the coast of South Africa. Already emailed our travel agent and hopefully may now book the maiden.

Maybe Azamara UK will offer events in Belfast to view Pursuit once work has progressed [emoji39]

Do you believe everything you read in the press?

Whilst on Celebrity Eclipse 7 years ago, one of the entertainment team had a special interest in Titanic and did four lectures on the subject, followed by an extra one due to passenger demand. I only attended the extra one, because quite frankly coming from Belfast I am Titanic(ed) out.

The one thing I took away from the lecture was the question to the audience, "What would happen to the Eclipse if it suffered the same damage as Titanic did?

The answer was, that the damage was so bad it to would go under, only it would take 17 hours

It would be great if a tour of the Pursuit was possible. Two years ago we had lunch on board Quest whilst in Belfast.

However, Quest was docked at a quay and access was reasonably easy. Pursuit will be in a shipyard which may mean more red tape and restrictions.

If the final few days before departure are outside of H&W then it may well be feasible.

And that, of course, excuses the shoddy riveting.

It is that. Went round to the dry dock in Singapore just after we left. There was absolutely NO disruption to our cruise from the impending dry dock.

They will also be removing the casino tables and having an attempt to deal with the big suites shower flooding.

The Cabaret lounge backstage is also being altered not entirely sure what there. A few carpets are being replaced but nothing else major was being talked about

Yes I understand that the casino tables are also being removed from Quest at the next dry dock and that the resultant space will be occupied by the future cruises desk and the concierge.

That would indeed be fantastic 🤞

Hmmm, this would surprise me. But I'll ask around for you.

Yea yea, the shoddy riveting that was caught on a badly lit camera after lying on the ocean bed for 90 years with rust, and corrosion etc etc.

This is a very Riveting argument but what relevance has it to the present day.

I am sure that the Shipyard will do a fantastic job.

You appear to be rather uninformed on this subject. I'd suggest you do some serious reading. Rivets and steel plate pieces were recovered from the wreckage. Hull plates were made with steel having too high a sulfur content, so they suffered brittle failure, hastening the sinking. Iron, not stronger steel, rivets were used on the bow (where it hit the iceberg) and stern hull plates. Would Titanic have gone down even if properly built? Yes, because of design flaws. But it would have taken considerably longer, and some, perhaps many, of the 1500 who perished might have been saved.

Yes, it's irrelevant to the Pursuit refit, but I didn't bring up the subject of Titanic, and a whitewashing of the shipyard's contribution to its rapid sinking simply had to be challenged.

On a more positive and future-looking note, perhaps Azamara can arrange something like the continuing thread about construction of Celebrity Edge:

https://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=2428652

Lloyd555 posts daily updates with terrific pictures of the ongoing (and ahead of schedule!) construction. It would be wonderful to see something similar from Azamara about Pursuit.

Let’s hope they do post updates. They did when they ‘re-imagined’ the Quest and Journey, so there’s a good chance they will, I think.

Really bad news! Have (had!) a booking on the August 3 - 13 cruise from Barcelona to Southampton. And had already booked flights to Barcelona and back from London. Guess that's just bad luck ..

I was waiting for this... I really hope Azamara offers you fair compensation. This change is their doing.

This seems rather a bizarre move if true. Can't think why these desks would be moved from Deck 4

Completely agree.

Especially after investing in that giant screen (the info displayed badly needs updating, BTW) in front of the cruise sales desks. Deck 4 seems like the place for all passenger support functions (guest relations, shore excursions, concierge, and cruise sales).

I have to say I did overhear a conversation involving a senior officer speaking to someone about relocating the cruise sales desks into the casino. Not a smart move, IMHO. Deck 5 should be for food, music, cocktails, coffee, entertainment, shopping, etc., not cruise business transactions.

Really stupid idea IMHO. They have a golden opportunity to create a proper lounge bar on Deck 5 - why make the change. Wasn’t aware of issue of space pressure on Deck 4. The interactive screen worked very well on Journey last week.

Absolutely a bizarre move. I'm not sure why they would even think of this?

There is now an opportunity for Spirits Bar to become a proper relaxing bar and music venue. Azamara should rethink this strange plan, if true.

Have you and/or your agent received the notification letter from us?

We hope you'll move to the new voyage, or choose another. Plus, we are offering to reimburse air and hotel charges for those who were booked on the Barcelona to Southampton itinerary.

No. We haven't been informed yet. But I'm happy to know that things will be taken care of. I'm sure it will all be ok.
