WonderMan3 Posted January 17, 2018 Author #102 Share Posted January 17, 2018 For dinner last night all four of us headed to Tuscan Grill. Now there have been a lot of complaints about this venue from Celebrity cruisers in recent years talking about a decline in food quality and service. We hadn’t really encountered that save for noticing that they had stopped some of the more unique features like the table side Caesar salad or bringing the antipasto board to the table automatically. On this visit we finally noticed some chinks in the armor. Our server was named Oleana and she was very friendly and exuberant. But in her zeal she forgot to bring one of the items we ordered which was the Antipasto board. We had an appetizer course and a soup/salad course so assumed when it hadn’t showed up that it would come next, but then the entrees appeared. We raised the issue to her but told her not to bring it at that point. In the end it was fine as then we had room for dessert. The food quality was okay. The filets were excellent but the pasta dishes were only average. I ordered the carbonara which I had at Tuscan several other times on other ships but found this one a bit bland. Mike thought his Veal Marsala was disappointing. And the bruschetta appetizer (one small piece of bread) was really flimsy and looked like it could’ve come straight out of the Oceanview Cafe. We also had to send a drink back at one point. Mike ordered a White Russian and the cream they used looked like it had curdled. Desserts were probably the best part of the meal. Oleana did a very nice thing though. Upon hearing during our conversations that Cindy and John had gotten married on board the day before, she brought out a small cake for them with a candle which was sweet. Overall, a very average meal at what used to be our favorite venue. I’m not sure why Celebrity refuses to go back to the original Tuscan Grill experience after hearing so much negative feedback about the changes over this past year. Unless perhaps when Edge rolls out it will feature some new dining concepts that will also replace some of these restaurants on S and M Class? Pictured in the photos are the Bruschetta, Spaghetti and Meatball, Goat Cheese & Arugula Salad, Minestrone Soup, Caesar Salad, Veal Marsala, Filet Mignon and Carbonara, Shortrib Pappardelle, Lobster Rigatoni, Fig Gelato, Spumoni Donuts and Zabaglione. njaloha Posted January 17, 2018 #109 Share Posted January 17, 2018 Re Tuscan Grill, we tried it January 2012 on the Silhouette and weren't impressed much and never went back. It's a huge space and back then it wasn't used for anything else like it is now. I'd like to eat lunch there at the window. At dinner, there's really no view. Re luminae, the menu is predictable and we've only been in suites twice. But with predictably comes comfort when you see your favorites on the menu. Then there's also the knowledge of the misses on the menu. We've got obc to spend so on our upcoming February cruise we might see if we can get into Murano for Valentine's day. WonderMan3 Posted January 17, 2018 Author #118 Share Posted January 17, 2018 For lunch today we made it to the Oceanview for the first time this cruise. Cindy and John had been several times but this was Mike’s and my first visit. It was pie and cupcake day! They had Beef, Seafood, Chicken, Vegetable and Shepherd’s Pies, with the Shepherd being the best. And they had about 8-10 different types of cupcakes. Red Velvet and Strawberry were my favorites. WonderMan3 Posted January 18, 2018 Author #119 Share Posted January 18, 2018 After lunch Cindy and John went on a Celebrity tour of the forts in San Juan while Mike and I took a cab over to a local casino. We didn’t have much luck though. After returning to the port we took a walk into the Old San Juan area and checked out a few shops. They were setting up for a festival and had a few vendors open selling local foods, so we tried a few of the fried specialties with meats and plantains. Walking back to the ship area we only had to wait a few minutes before Cindy and John returned from their tour. They were hot and exhausted because the tour had been altered due to the festival. They had closed streets around the forts so they had to walk between the forts and then back to the ship instead of being transported on a bus. We headed back on the ship and found that the butler and room attendant had decorated the room for Mike’s birthday and set up a group of treats based on a request I had made. He was happily surprised. Sent from my iPhone using Forums
WonderMan3 Posted January 18, 2018 Author #120 Share Posted January 18, 2018 After celebrating Mike’s birthday in our cabin, Cindy, John and I went down to the future cruise sales office so that they could book a reservation on the Summit for next January which Mike and I had already reserved. They decided to go with a Concierge Class cabin since it was only $80pp more than a veranda and it gave them a larger cabin plus extra amenities. They were also able to get the Go Best package. After completing the booking we headed up to Deck 15 to meet Mike and enjoy the sailaway from San Juan. Sent from my iPhone using Forums

Barwick Cruiser Posted January 18, 2018 #124 Share Posted January 18, 2018 Loving all the great pics!! Thanks so much for doing this. Your dinner last night, the cheese croquet, was that from another menu or a surprise addition from your waiter? I don't see it on the Luminae menu. Keep up the great work and enjoy the final few days!! Cathy
