Move Over Offer

Once again, thank you to everyone for your advice! It was most helpful. Ultimately, we did not take the offer. Our travel partners could not find another Caribbean cruise that would work (one of them is a teacher). There are no Caribbean cruises during the last week of April (his break). My wife and I really want to do a British Isles cruise in August but they wouldn't budge. The only offer was for Caribbean. If we weren't traveling with others, we would have taken the offer. I was surprised we even got the offer considering that we booked it through Friends and Family.

Sorry to hear that. They were only willing to give a Caribbean cruise and not ever cruise you wanted?!! Were they at least willing to allow you to go in the Fall?

Glad to know you will still be on board with us!

Only Caribbean. He wouldn't budge. No "real" time limit. See you in a few days!

They don't care - they just need cabins. I have a friend who worked with Princess (better fares than Friends and Family rates) and they took move over offers.

Shouldn't be a surprise. Princess saves $$$ by getting the offer accepted by someone who booked at a low rate vs. someone who booked at with regular pricing. Less refundable OBC to give if the offer is accepted.

Real deals on Princess seem to be getting harder to come by.

The last insane deal we nabbed from Princess was our 28-day cruise in Nov 2016,

on the Crown Princess ~ Los Angeles/Hawaii/South Pacific/Los Angeles.

We got a balcony cabin on Lido Deck, unobstructed view, just short of $2000 each

(including port charges/taxes/fees) for the 2 of us plus $750 non-refundable onboard credit.

Holding out, hoping to replicate that deal next month on the Emerald's same itinerary.

With Princess dropping Apia (Samoa) and pissing off a bunch of booked passengers who

are cancelling this cruise, we are keeping our fingers crossed that it may happen, but who knows!

If not, we'll wait for the next opportunity. No rush from our side, we've already done 3 cruises

so far in 2018, none of which were on Princess.

Patience is a virtue.

My TA emailed me a move over offer for this same cruise at 3:45 am. I'm booked on a really cheap casino deal so the OBC I would get back is next to nothing, I have him calling this morning to see if it's still available.

The email is so vague. Guess they aren't giving upgraded cabins just move over.

Unlike the upsell emails that the TA forwards where it gives me the phone number and extension to call, this says to call my TA. Is that normal?

Princess Cruises is extending a special offer to guests booked on the February 18, 2018 5 day sailing of Crown Princess. Move to any alternate 7 day sailing (based on space available) and receive: -100% cruise fare refund (in the form of refundable onboard credit) -Air change fees up to $150 per person will be covered -Princess EzAir program will be covered 100%

The one that my TA forwarded displayed the Princess phone number so I called direct. Later my TA said that she could have taken care of it for us. I checked on our offer and she got the same comp either way so I saved her the hassle. They might want to deal with TA though because they probably don’t have as many questions and it’s faster.

By the way even the upgrades have rules. Their systems apparently have restrictions. Our offer said we could get a full suite and we picked out a cabin but it was S3 and their system would only allow booking up to S4. We like aft facing suites so we found an S6 to our liking on one of the cruises we selected but on the other, the Royal’s aft facing suites were S3 and we could not get it even though several were available. The rep said we could accept an aft facing balcony cabin. We took a suite on the port side. Our friends were upgraded to a mini suite and their rule was that it could be no higher than MB.

Even though you use a TA, you can call direct. You don't have to go through the TA.

I would love to call directly but there is no phone number on the email that he forwarded to me but his. I know the upsells always have the phone number and extension to call.

It's my first time using this guy since my regular TA was at one of the bowl games when the casino offer came through.

Actually I believe that you got the offer because you booked through "Friends and Family". They would rather not make regular customers be inconvenienced.

"Regular Cruisers" get move over offers all of the time and they love them. I'm still waiting for mine. Someday, someday. :)

I am sure lots of people do love them, just saying that the first people they try to move, are those that are getting a concession fair. Then if they still need cabins, they move on to other guest.

Have never cruised before with Princess, so what exactly are they offering you to switch dates and even the ship. So are they refunding you the full cost of the cruise you booked and giving you the total price in refundable OBC...............and then you just find another cruise and ship you want to go on and then you just paying the going price at that time and then you have the OBC to either use on that next cruise or if any is left over they give the rest of the money back to you when you get off the ship.

Is that how it works or am I all wrong?

You are wrong.

There is a special office that deals with this. THey give you the entire cruise fare portion of the ticket as OBC on a future cruise. They give you the future cruise FREE within the parameters they set. For instance, if you give up a 5 night cruise in the Caribbean, the offer might be any cruise up to 7 days in the caribbean. If you give up a 10 night cruise in Japan, the offer might be any cruise up to 12 nights worldwide. Whatever taxes you paid for this cruise will roll over to the new cruise; if the taxes on the new cruise are more, Princess will pay them. If they are less, you will get the difference refunded. If you booked EZ air, Princess will cover the air on the new cruise. Supposedly if the new air is less, they will refund the difference. If you booked air on your own, they will pay you a set amount to cover change fees.

SO, essentially you get the cost of 2 cruises free--your new cruise and a full refundable OBC for your old cruise.

Yes. It indicated upgraded cabin subject to availability along with the number of days, number of cruises, and info about Princess air being protected. We didn’t try to negotiate at all when we originally accepted and it was clear when we booked yesterday that there was zero leeway. So if you would accept only with an upgrade, tell them that and if they need your cabin bad enough, they may take you up on it.

The problem is that their definition of an upgraded cabin and mine don't always coincide. I see an upgrade as , for example, from an oceanview to a balcony. They can and sometimes will do that on a move over, but they also consider it an upgrade to go from one location of a balcony to a "better" location.

OK, this may sound stupid, but it worked....I'd seen a lot of reports of people getting move over offers on cruises similar to what we booked, so I looked up what I'd want to move to if I got lucky. I could guess what the offer might be based on what others were reporting--same length or up to 2 extra days, same area of the world or at least departing from North America, etc. So I had a good idea of what I would ask for if I got the call and be able to do the rebooking at the same time. I even knew what it would cost to change my independently booked air. Again, I didn't know if there would be "wiggle room," but if they are offering $100pp and I knew that our change would cost $200pp, that's worth mentioning. By playing "If I don't go on the cruise I have booked, what would I want to do?" I was prepared when the phone call happened!

Also, I don't know if this is true or not, but I've read on the boards that once you accept a move over offer, you are more likely to get additional offers.

Thanks! Ours doesn't mention it, only what I had quoted above. Guess I better get packing!

They did "sweeten" the deal yesterday in a follow-up email. They dropped both the previous date restriction as well as the Caribbean limitation. If we were traveling alone, we would have snagged it!
