New Dynamic Dining form on the Edge. Early & Late Failure

Celebrity tries their version of Dynamic dining on the Edge. It didn't work on Royal. They have 4 dining room and if you want early or late you are assigned one. You will miss out on some of the dishes that are in the other three.

Rotational Dining, Disney does it or just rotate the Menu. Many like set times but don't want to miss out.

You can't satisfy everyone. If you rotate the menus, you'll upset those who want the same menus every night.

Anyone remember when it was one dining room, 2 set dining times, ONE MENU? There was a time when they didn't even offer the "classics" - what was on the menu is what you chose from, and no one whined like a baby. They picked something they liked or could eat due to allergy restrictions. They're giving a lot more options but everyone's complaining. Find something that works for you. That's how it had to be done in the past.

"thanks for reaching out! Here is the way we are handling this! If you want early or late and same table and same waiter you submit early or late. We're will preassign your table and restaurant. The guest will get their assignment when they arrive just like today they get their table assignment when they arrive. If the guest doesn't like the restaurant we preassigned they can go change it at dining coor. That will be their place and table and waiter for the cruise. If they want to do all four then they choose Celebrity Select plus and they pick the place and the time. Today for Celebrity select they just pick the time. So the guest gets the choice. All four restaurants will serve 75 percent the same things and the menu changes every night. 25 percent is just for that restaurant and stays the same!

Believe it or not, many complained that DD gave them too many choices.

Stop the sky is falling routine. RCL wasn't executed well. Hopefully there have been lessons learned. At least wait until the details emerge and reports start flowing back before posting irrational posts.

Yes it does doesn’t it. There will be a lot of disappointment where people allocated one restaurant want to switch and cannot get their preferred venue.

And allllll of these quirks is why I waited to sail in March of 2019. While not everything will be worked out by then, it FOR SURE will be way smoother than the preview cruises and first few sailings. And we can hear the reports of others and make some decisions before boarding as well.

EEK! Celebrity's saving grace over the last year of IT problems was the knowledge that once on board the experience was wonderful and seamless. I hope they do no spread the problems from land to sea. I have NO faith in Celebrity's IT department.

I seriously doubt that. You might not have heard it, but people have been complaining about everything forever.

Are the two IT departments one and the same?

The new dining would work if they just offered 100% of the Menu items to ALL those that like early or Late seating instead of only 75%

Luck of the draw, I guess OR one can request to change dining venues on any given night with advance notice to the Maitre d', possibly?

Okay, what is the issue? One on Select Dining who wishes to eat at 5.30p every night can reserve that time slot every night with same wait staff, if they want to change venues, they can select whichever venue they wish to eat in, the issue, as possibly being posed is, not the same wait staff for each venue...???

Sailed both Quantum and Anthem and while dd sounded great in concept, the execution was a real mess. Don't believe that vocal contingent was opposed to "any" change, just change that was poorly conceived and executed.

 

Software was an issue, but but imo not the main problem. The 4 dining rooms were undersized requiring 2.7 turns to feed everyone. Implementation of dd classic made things worse by limiting sections of each mdr to 2 seatings. Two of the four restaurants (Silk & American Icon) were less popular, causing increased congestion at the other two. Many were angrily turned away at door and sent to buffet. Royals' solution was to cram in additional tables and chairs.

 

Service was slowed by Royal's decision (later reversed) to go without assistant waiters leaving waiters responsible for bread, drink orders, etc. Kitchens were also undersized and understaffed leading to many cold food complaints.

 

The reservation system was buggy, dropping some reservations while double-booking others. Even those with reservations often had lengthy waits. Plan to have waiters take orders on ipods proved too slow and complicated and they ultimately went back to pen and paper.

 

If X plans to bring anything similar to Edge hopefully they've learned from Royal's mistakes and will size it, staff it and test it properly.

The problem is if people want Late with all the same group and not have to make Rez. Just walk in sit down and have 100% of the items for that day on the Menu. They can't the way it is now. They would miss out on 25% of the dishes since they are not presented them. It could be one couple that want to meet new couples and stay as one table the way it is now. Celebrity is forcing people into their mold. The cust is always right. But not according to Celebrity.

Many were complaining before the first sailing with focus on the changes from traditional dining.

 

The issue with the reservations and Ipods were software related. The lack of waiters stemmed from the failures with the software system. From there, the failures/issues cascaded.
