Sacom Posted March 27, 2018 #1 Share Posted March 27, 2018 We just got off the Eurodam and made arrangements with Luggage Direct to deal with our suitcase. This service is offered through Holland America. Our flight wasn’t until 6pm and we wanted to spend the day in Ft Lauderdale luggage free. Best $25 we’ve ever spent. It got picked up outside our cabin sometime after midnight like all the other suitcases and the next time I saw it was at my Home airport when we landed. We were provided tags to attach along with our boarding pass since they had checked us in. A great deal! Sent from my iPhone using Forums

Sacom Posted March 27, 2018 Author #4 Share Posted March 27, 2018 What airline did you use and did you have a direct flight or connections? Thanks! I should have mentioned it only works for certain airlines. We used a non stop with Jet Blue. Somewhere in their info it mentions the accepted airlines. Rare VMax1700 Posted March 27, 2018 #8 Share Posted March 27, 2018 I thinks it's really cool that Seattle does this for free. There is a charge for the Luggage Direct Service. They are independent service providers.
Paulinda Posted March 27, 2018 #9 Share Posted March 27, 2018 I've used it in Seattle and Ft. Lauderdale. I thought it was worth the $ and made our post cruise excursions hassle free. Does it work in other ports too.?

Mutumbojimbo Posted March 27, 2018 #12 Share Posted March 27, 2018 Free? How does that work? I never knew about this. Please explain. The port offers a service where they transport the luggage from the pier to the airport. So many of the flights leave late at night, so I'm sure the service works well for the city to make it easy for people to sight see and spend money. Tinknock50 Posted March 27, 2018 #13 Share Posted March 27, 2018 Free? How does that work? I never knew about this. Please explain. This is a service Seattle pays for to free you of handling your luggage on disembarkation day so you will be more likely to sight see and spend more dollars in Seattle. There should be a form in your stateroom, or ask for it at the front desk. Fill it out ASAP because there is a deadline for this request. I was disappointed because I either accidentally threw the form away , or it was never in my stateroom to begin with. So after waiting days for it to show up, I went to the Front Desk and asked....it was too late then. :(
kokopelli-az Posted March 27, 2018 #14 Share Posted March 27, 2018 We were on the Eurodam in March (out of Ft Lauderdale) and I have attached some information they provided about Luggage Direct. There is a $25** charge by Holland America/Luggage Direct + whatever your airline charges (we were on United so it would have cost $25). We had a layover in Washington DC and when we got to our final destination of Portland, Oregon, our luggage was there. (Note: We never did get charged the $25 checked luggage fee from United.) I should note that Holland America also printed out our boarding passes and brought them to our room. **Holland America's information stated $25 per person; however, we only had one suitcase so I asked about this and they ended up only charging us $25 total (and they still printed out both boarding passes). kokopelli-az Posted March 27, 2018 #15 Share Posted March 27, 2018 I thinks it's really cool that Seattle does this for free. We got it for free one time, also. I think it was out of Ft Lauderdale. (We did not pay the cruise line, Luggage Direct or the airline anything.) However, we were on Celebrity in a suite so this may have been why. Sacom Posted March 27, 2018 Author #19 Share Posted March 27, 2018 Free would have been nice and I'm sure the suite plus being on Celebrity had something to do with it. Still, I won't complain about the $25. I've sailed Celebrity and it really is nice but I found Holland America to have better night time entertainment. One note: Luggage Direct billed my onboard account as anticipated but also billed me for the airline baggage fee which I had prepaid when I bought my Jet Blue ticket. I just got off the phone and it will be refunded and might take up to 6 weeks. Important to check every item on the final bill. If someone could have kept me out of the casino I'd like my final bill a lot better!
avian777 Posted April 1, 2018 #20 Share Posted April 1, 2018 Another delivery option offered by Luggage Direct is the Bags VIP Delivery Service - delivery of your bags from airport to your destination. For more details on this very good (and, in our experience, dependable) service, go to the Make Travel Easier web site: https://www.maketraveleasier.com/bagsvip
Sacom Posted April 1, 2018 Author #21 Share Posted April 1, 2018 I saw this as an option but we flew in early and spent time in Ft Lauderdale. I would definitely consider it in the future. Thanks for the reminder.
ChinaShrek Posted November 16, 2018 #22 Share Posted November 16, 2018 I have elite status with Delta and am entitled to one free bag per person on the reservation. Will HAL still charge me the airline baggage fee?
Rare boards Posted November 16, 2018 #23 Share Posted November 16, 2018 We just got off the Koningsdam on Nov. 11, 2018 unfortunately for us they did not have the Luggage direct available on this cruise yet, but the service we got to help us was outstanding. Thank you Holland America and the porters who helped my wife and I.
Crusinsusan2 Posted November 16, 2018 #24 Share Posted November 16, 2018 We used it this fall out of Seattle. Super easy and free. The normal airline checked baggage fees were of course applied.
JudithLynne Posted November 16, 2018 #25 Share Posted November 16, 2018 We have completed 42 years and used this service many times. Our home airport is a small commuter airport so there is rarely a direct flight for us accept from SEA. Even with connections we have always retrieved our luggage at our home airport.
