Tafia69 Posted April 5, 2018 #1 Share Posted April 5, 2018 (edited) As first time cruisers we wonder how easy it is to get lost in the various ports of call. We did end up going in circles once in Nice old town! We are going to Vigo, Cadiz, Valencia, Cartagena, Gibraltar and Lisbon. I have tried to print street maps of the various calls but often Malware Bytes blocks them for some reason. Are street maps readily available? Any other tips for these ports? Apologies for typo in heading. Typing too fast. :-( Thanks, T Edited April 5, 2018 by Tafia69 Typos
Z'Loth Posted April 5, 2018 #2 Share Posted April 5, 2018 If you have a smartphone and use Google Maps, I would recommend using the offline mode of Google Maps and pre-download the maps of the areas you are going to visit. Another feature that I found in Google Maps is the parking mode. While it's intended to help you save the location of your car, you can also use it for the location of where your ship is parked. Rare Essiesmom Posted April 5, 2018 #3 Share Posted April 5, 2018 I'm not understanding why maps would be blocked, but maybe you need to try different sites. If I couldn't find a decent map online of - say - Cadiz, I would use Google Earth and do a print screen shot and print it. EM

paul929207 Posted April 5, 2018 #6 Share Posted April 5, 2018 Often in the cruise terminal, there will be an information desk that gives away maps
crzndeb Posted April 5, 2018 #7 Share Posted April 5, 2018 If you are an app person, there is one called visit a city. It includes maps and the cities can be downloaded to read offline when you are in ports.
Bizmark'sMom Posted April 5, 2018 #8 Share Posted April 5, 2018 I use Google Offline on my smart phone, in addition to the free maps they hand out inside the port facility.
bigwally Posted April 5, 2018 #9 Share Posted April 5, 2018 One of the things I try to do is use Google Maps Street View to "walk" around a city or town I'll be visiting. It really allows you to get an advance feel for a place. I've used the same technique for driving, especially so I can see what my exits and/or turnoffs from the highway look like (sign posts, landmarks, etc...). capriccio Posted April 5, 2018 #10 Share Posted April 5, 2018 Check out Tom's Port Guides (https://www.tomsportguides.com/). He is an avid cruiser and publishes these guides on the internet for free. They include maps, GPS coordinates, info on attractions, etc. We've used them in many ports and think they are wonderful.
Tafia69 Posted April 6, 2018 Author #11 Share Posted April 6, 2018 Try wandering through Venice without a map. Did that. If we look up above the street names we see blue arrows which point the way back to San Marco. :)
