If you don’t smoke don’t book epic! Smoking everywhere, couldn’t even go eat without walking through smoking section.

I walked through the casino and couldn’t believe all the people that were gambling lol

I did a transatlantic in April 2015. The area where the casino is located, mid-ship deck 6, is open to other decks above and below. It's horrible to walk through this area because of the smoke. I think the TA was especially bad because of the many days at sea with little to do.

I'll be glad when all of the cruise lines ban smoking. And while they're at it, ban all the little 'comfort' animals. Service animals I understand.

Wait, what? Service animals are allowed on board? Where do they crap, besides the obvious? How is that sanitary with the people walking around barefooted?

Proper service animals are trained to use a "litter box" which the ship will provide, in a discreet place usually away from public areas. For the comfort animals that haven't been trained properly.....well you might want to ask some of the stewards what they have encountered in the past.

I've never had a serious problem with smoke on ships and am an asthma sufferer. Admittedly the smell rises from the casinos and sometimes you do have to walk through it to get to where you are going to! Kudos to NCL for designing an enclosed smoking area within the casinos on their newest ships.

Just got off the Epic a couple of weeks ago, and although I despised the ship, didn't find the smoking any worse than any other NCL ship. We know that when we sail NCL we are going to encounter smoking and do our best to avoid it.

BULL. Almost none of the eateries are anywhere near the smoking area, which is the casino area. You are right that O'sheenan's is right there but certainly your didn't eat all your means there. I do wish, like many have said the casino was enclosed, but certainly there are a lot of places where you either have no contact with the smoking or only for a few seconds. :o

I am always amazed when someone finds cruise critic just for complaining purposes. Looks like you did exactly that. Never on it before cruising and never since your very dramatic opinion of the smoking issue.

Smoking at the main pool, smoking at the adult pool bar area, smoking out front of manhattan restaurant , smoking out front of noodle restaurant , smoking out front of O’Sheans, smoking everywhere.

That also is over stated: yes, there is a smoking area at the pool, but just one small area, the same with the bar. I am so glad you did not live 30 years ago or where not aware of the smoking, whichever. People smoked everywhere, even in the hospitals and some doctors offices. If you were alive you must have had to shut yourself in your house all the time to escape the smoke. Most of us, even those of us who hate the smell have some tolerance and have learned to live with a little smoke order.

I have been on the Epic 4 times and hate smoke. I never found it bad at all on the Epic.

We hate smoke too and found the Epic to be the worst ship for smoke of all the ships we have been on. That open atrium above which is the casino is by far the dumbest layout of all times.....all that smoke from the smokiest of smokey casinos just open to several decks of atrium was disgusting. We agree with you OP, the Epic was quite smokey in many places and a big turn off for us (among other things on this ship!)

I do agree with you that the Epic, more so than any other NCL ship has uncontained smoke. It's a lot more smoke than I want to be smelling and it's not contained in the casino. I remember walking in to Le Bistro and smelling smoke! I remember waiting in line to get into the various theaters, standing in line 15 fish minutes and smelling smoke. I do agree with you that it's unacceptable.

But the other posters are right. The smoke isn't everywhere. It's easy to get away from the smoke, its just that there are parts of the ship, if you want to enjoy them, you're going to have to deal with smoke. If you want to see a show in headlines, you probably will have to stand in line and smell smoke. You can eat at le Bistro smoke free but getting there will be a small issue.

You've gotta be able to tolerate some level of smoke to enjoy the Epic.

Hell these people are obviously smokers it’s the worst smoke infested boat I’ve been on and I don’t care what anyone thinks about my opinion this review is for people who don’t like to continually be in smoke.

No, many of us are not smokers, we are just not all that easily upset and I have to wonder just how many ships. or boats as you call them you have been on. Obviously you do not remember the days when smoking was allowed everywhere on ships. In fact even after non smoking areas started appearing smoking was still allowed on balconies. This policy only changed about 10 years ago. Now, I don't think any line allows balcony smoking.

Thanks. after seeing the initial post, my heart jumped. I cannot stand smoke either. I board on Sunday. If it was bad, i am sure the cruise line would have some non-smoking sections anyway as a common courtesy.

I just got off the EPIC. The smoke doesn't bother me as me as it use to. I did learn that if I walk around the other side of the pool (the opposite side of the smoking section) that you can't smell the smoke. That would be if you are coming from back of ship (Spice H20) go to the right side. The smoking section is on the left side of the ship.

The night of the 80's party there was a lot of smoking happening in Spice H20 but the wind was making it go off the ship.

Thanks for the tip.

Been on Epic 2 times and booked again this Dec. Smoke never been an issue and we utilize the casino when open. (We are not smokers).

If you think Epic has an issue, just got back from the Carnival Sunshine. Man that was the worsted smoke experience we have seen.. Sore throat every night. Last night did not even gamble.

Funny; you must have missed a good part of the ship.

I was on the Epic in January and did not experience this at all, only in certain places which were well marked as smoking sections.

No, I am not a smoker.

Hope your next cruise is better for you.:cool:

Prior to the cruise is there a way to find out where the smoking sections? Are the cabins non-smoking. My husband had a heart transplant 5 years ago and one of the main things he is to avoid is the smell of smoke. This is the first time I have read about Epic being bad about smoke. Most ships we have been on (see list in signature) allow smoking and it has never bothered us as long as we avoid the casino.

Just food for thought - I wonder if in the line what you were smelling was not the actual smoke, but the smell that permeates the clothes, hair, etc of smokers - that is not a pleasant smell either, but we are booked and will do our best to not be in any areas that are smoke filled - thanks for the tip to avoid Le Bistro.

I'm pretty sensitive to smoke and didn't notice it anywhere on the Epic, not even when passing through the casino. I had been concerned about the proximity of the casino to O'Sheehans and the MDR. I spent no time around the pool.

Just off the Epic last month (our third time) and did not notice smoke anywhere except the casino which was not even that bad! And as a "past" smoker, I am truly alert to the smell. So I hope that this does not discourage anyone with plans of sailing on the Epic in the near future as you may have just had a trip where smokers were smoking where they should not have been? In which case you had the option of reporting it to the appropriate personnel.

Everyone has their "beefs" with vacation plans......yours may be a whiff of smoke, mine is usually the kids misbehaving in the Haven....seems like all of us need to take a breath and enjoy the journey....as life is short.

Hi OP, was it your first cruise?

If so, welcome to cruising world and Cruise Critic.

We are non-smokers and we have been on more than 20 cruises. Yes there are always some smoking on ships, but we do not let that deter us.

Can you try?

Cheers.

P.S. the thread title is a bit overly dramatic and over the top.

i didn't get paid for this review if you don't like smoke good luck.

Thanks for posting about this. We don't smoke, and prefer to not be subjected to it.

Obviously, if you do smoke, this sounds like a great ship to be on.

Having the correct information lets everyone make their own decisions.
