cruisingforever20 Posted April 22, 2018 #1 Share Posted April 22, 2018 I’ve sailed on the Summit to Bermuda back in 2014 and thought it was one of my best cruises. I’m thinking about going on it again but some reviews that I’ve seen haven’t been great. Has the Summit gone downhill and should it be avoided? Or should I ignore the reviews and go anyway? I’d really appreciate your help.
Hydrokitty Posted April 22, 2018 #2 Share Posted April 22, 2018 We were on Summit last October and it was fine....true it's showing it's age, but food, cabin, everything was fine and I wouldn't hesitate to go on her again.
CruisersTimesThree Posted April 22, 2018 #3 Share Posted April 22, 2018 Summit is still as wonderful as when you were on it in 2014. We have sailed her in 2012, 2013, 2016 and 2017 and as always the crew, the food and the ambiance were great each time. I have never had a bad experience on the Summit. Yes, she's an older ship and has some wear and tear, but she is well maintained and you can see the crew is very happy on her. I am sure there are some bad reviews, but there are many many good reviews.

cruisingforever20 Posted April 22, 2018 Author #5 Share Posted April 22, 2018 Thank you all so much for your replies! I’m going to go ahead and book the Summit. I knew deep down that it is just as great as I remember but I just wanted to be sure. Thank you all!
HardyVA Posted April 22, 2018 #6 Share Posted April 22, 2018 We sailed on Summit to Bermuda in '14, '15 and '17 and are sailing on her again in June. No issues at all. Hoping for none this time too.
az_tchr Posted April 22, 2018 #7 Share Posted April 22, 2018 Same here. Remember people who have a gripe are much more likely to complain. Summit was in much better condition than the ships on Carnival or Princess we recently cruised on.
Northern Aurora Posted April 22, 2018 #8 Share Posted April 22, 2018 We spent 30+ nights on the Summit last fall, and thought that she was in excellent shape. We are booked for a B2B in June are are looking forward to returning.
Cruise a holic Posted April 22, 2018 #9 Share Posted April 22, 2018 Have sailed on the summit every year since 2012, planning another cruise next year. The ship has been refurbished many times, sure she doesn’t have all the bells and whistles of the newer ships, but is still great. The staff is superb. My only negative comments is that the cabins and lesser suites need to be refurbished as well. Perhaps they will be soon
misterkevin Posted April 22, 2018 #10 Share Posted April 22, 2018 No, don't worry. The Summit is beautiful. Food and service are still great. The size is wonderful. The newer rooftop terrace on 12 is perfect for lounging or a movie. I was on in January and loved it.
George C Posted April 22, 2018 #11 Share Posted April 22, 2018 We did a charter on summit last month and loved the ship , we normally do rccl but was really impressed by buffets on this ship and service , we liked it so much we will do sister ship infinity next year. Rare DENIE Posted April 23, 2018 #12 Share Posted April 23, 2018 We saw similar kinds of reviews before sailing on the Infinity (Summit's sister ship). It was in great shape, and had nothing at all wrong with it - very well maintained. In fact, it was in far better shape than a Carnival "older ship" we sailed in 2010. Comparatively, they would have been about the same age. If the Infinity is any comparison, you will enjoy the Summit!

aquidneck1 Posted April 23, 2018 #14 Share Posted April 23, 2018 Does the change in Captain make a difference or concern anyone. Apparently Captain Kate made quite a difference.
George C Posted April 23, 2018 #15 Share Posted April 23, 2018 Does the change in Captain make a difference or concern anyone. Apparently Captain Kate made quite a difference. GrayMaineCruiser Posted April 23, 2018 #16 Share Posted April 23, 2018 Our experience on Summit earlier this year was one of our best cruise experiences ever. I thought the ship was in great shape and the staff were all wonderful.
davekathy Posted April 23, 2018 #17 Share Posted April 23, 2018 Does the change in Captain make a difference or concern anyone. Apparently Captain Kate made quite a difference. Not to us. As long as whoever the is captain driving the ship gets us to our ports of call safely and on time is all that matters to us..
tbedard1 Posted April 23, 2018 #18 Share Posted April 23, 2018 We just got off the Summit on Saturday . The staff is amazing ! The food is delicious in all areas! We had no complaints at all! Embarkation and disembarkation were the smoothest we have ever experienced in our 21 cruises! She is an older ship, but in great shape.Entertainment was great too! I would go back in a heartbeat! CruisersTimesThree Posted April 23, 2018 #19 Share Posted April 23, 2018 Does the change in Captain make a difference or concern anyone. Apparently Captain Kate made quite a difference. Why in the world would anyone have a concern over who the Capt of the vessel is? I am sure that anyone who is in charge of a ship for Celebrity cruises is fully capable of doing their job. Our last couple of Summit cruises were commanded by Capt Alex and he did a wonderful job! Sent from my iPad using Forums

gek Posted April 23, 2018 #21 Share Posted April 23, 2018 It's 4 years older that when you were last on her. If you think that is an issue don't go. Otherwise, don't worry. Celebrity maintains their fleet to a more than acceptable standard
Fishkillbill Posted April 23, 2018 #22 Share Posted April 23, 2018 We have only taken three cruises. Two years ago on Summit. Last year on Summit. Two weeks ago on Silhouette. We much preferred the Summit.
phoenix_dream Posted April 23, 2018 #23 Share Posted April 23, 2018 We also had a similar concern regarding bad reviews on Infinity. Sailed her several times in the past couple of years and had no issues at all -in fact quite the opposite. Some people just happen to have a bad experience. Some people just don't like M class ships at all - yes they are older, smaller, and have fewer venues of entertainment/lounges. Yes they show that age a little more than S class, but are always kept in good to very good shape. But overall I prefer M class to S class any day. Very much looking forward to our upcoming B2B on Millennium and would not hesitate to book Summit.
srdancer Posted April 24, 2018 #24 Share Posted April 24, 2018 Isn't Summit being totally refurbished in Feb-Mar 2019? Just wait until after that to cruise on her.
Luvcrusn Posted April 24, 2018 #25 Share Posted April 24, 2018 In a word NO! I don't get these constant threads asking about Summit, Constellation, Reflection, etc.and food. Celebrity is a popular cruise line with loyal repeat cruisers for a reason. End.
