Spending nothing

We went on a spring break cruise with four of us in our room, had drink packages and pre paid grats, and left the ship with an $80 credit refunded to our card, so it can easily be done.

We had purchased the soda package for our two sons, but got onboard and had a coupon for 2 free, so guest services credited it back. We spent a little here and there (I didn't have deluxe so my drinks were purchased), and had to go but some meds for my son who ended up with a double ear infection.

Day 2 of our cruise last year, my dd complained her ear was hurting. Sure enough double inner and outer ear infection. That was $200. She was a trooper though and made sure she didn’t swim underwater for 2 days.

odds of spending no money onboard? We got the soda package, prepaid for the shore excursion and plan to only eat at free places. Are we being unrealistic to think we can spend little to nothing onboard? No drinking or gambling.

And we complain about RCCL being cheap with their cutbacks. Quite an objective, spending no money on vacation

Spending no money after already spending thousands of dollars to get in board, and then hundreds (if not thousands) more for drink packages, etc.

Being Canadian we almost always have our onboard account as a cash one and the notices we've gotten state we can charge up to $500 before a payment is required. Most recent was earlier this month on Anthem.

Yes on all Royal ships $500 USD is standard limit on all cash accounts before they require cash to pay down balance...

We have been on many cruises and have never had a zero bill. Even with prepaying tips, alcohol package, specialty restaurants, excursions etc. we still spend money.

I know many who don't spend money don't go to the casino, but we do. We also have EXTRA for tips to the porter, room service, waiter/wait staff in the MDR, tips for the wait staff in the Specialty restaurants, cabin steward, DL, drinks even though we have the beverage package. If we pay $46 a day plus grats, and have 10 drinks a day, including water etc, that's less than $1 a drink and that doesn't seem like it's enough.

I can't imagine not spending money on the things I mentioned.

Well we are on this Independence this autumn, on 14 transatlantic from Southampton.

We auto paid the gratuities, and the alcoholic drink package, and the soft drinks package for the two children were free .

So I plan on spending very, very little !

14 days, of anything to drink soft/alcoholic for all of us , 8 or so days at sea.

No excursions booked, maybe sort a few trips to beaches out ourselves, when get to a port.

14 days of paid for food, drink, and entertainment, why would I want to spend more, if the food wasn't good enough, I would have booked a better class of cruise, that cost a lot more

money.

O.K if gambling is your thing, spend your money, maybe win, but not for me.

Also I can't stand smoke (with a vengeance), so if that's your thing, good for you.

Not knocking anyone, it's your money, spend it how you want, but I can't understand it, if the food included in your cruise isn't good enough, and you want to spend more on specialty dining, and I mean more than once, or on a longer cruise maybe twice as a treat, then why Royal Caribbean.

There is better food included, on other more expensive cruise lines.

So I have paid my fare, got a very good deal, I am going to spend very little more !

Agree on most of your points, but the ultimate dining package gives really good food if that is what you want (we don't really do socially often), and may be less than going to some other line for better food.

We happen to like the ships of Royal Caribbean and dislike going to the MDR not just because the food is just ok, but we don't like all the noise in the dining room. We get far better service, a more relaxed atmosphere and yes, better food in the specialty restaurants. The wait staff in the dining rooms has been reduced so the personalized service that was part of the dining experience is gone in most cases. I have no reason to sail on other more expensive lines just so I can say I have done so. As you said, it's my money and I/we spend it as we like.

If we pre-purchase the drink package, and maybe, First Night Done Right, we generally don't spend much, if any more. We have cruised enough that we do not need any more souvenirs and don't spend much time in the casinos. I do put a small amount of cash on our account and just close it out the night before we disembark.

We prepay everything and use the deluxe drink package and never have anything to pay for on the ship. On occasion we've stopped for a scoop at Ben and Jerry's making our bill come out to $5 or $10 at the end of the cruise. That is one of the reasons we love cruising so much! Carefree/stress free since everything is paid for upfront!

Depending on the length of the cruise we usually put money on our sea pass before the cruise in the form of OBC. Once we arrive the account is considered cash and we don’t give a credit card. If we put $100 per person we usually cash out at the end of the cruise, they are considered refundable

This is what we do also, but we do leave our credit card. I never want to stand in line at guest services the last night to deal with charges.

We put $200 on our 6 night Freedom and got a $11 refund at the end to our credit card on file.

I will make sure we have $300 on our account for this next cruise, since it's longer, and the OBC from the TA is not set yet.

Yes, absolutely doable. We book and pay for drinks and excursions before we go. We wait to pay tips until we are onboard at customer services a few days before the end of our cruise. For us, tips are earned for service above and beyond and so we wait. We don't buy anything extra so there is never any bill at the end.

I might be able to do so if there wasn't an activity named "shopping".

No activity like that for us. I am not enjoying this activity even on land. :)

We do buy ship models if we are on the ship for the first time.

Boy... RCCL probably hates this topic and all advices. :)
