Spending nothing

odds of spending no money onboard? We got the soda package, prepaid for the shore excursion and plan to only eat at free places. Are we being unrealistic to think we can spend little to nothing onboard? No drinking or gambling.

did you prepay gratutities? Then it's reasonable to think you won't spend anything else.

No ,not at all . The only money I spend on on a cruise (on the ship is in the casino) and on my lat cruise I could not do that because of cigarette smoke.

Yes, we prepaid the gratuities!

You seem quite knowledgeable so one more question if you don’t mind: do they put a hold on the debit card to start or just charge as you charge?

If you've got an OBC then you get to spend the cruise lines and/or TAs money instead of yours.

Why then are you backing your account with a card? We now only do cash accounts and have never had to add cash (thanks to OBC from TA and RCI ). I would go cash account and if you do splurge on something you can always change to your debit card at the end of your cruise

I’m not sure I knew you could just use cash. Also, I don’t think we have any OBC.

You don't need to have OBC to do a cash account. When you do your online check in, check the box for cash account. Once on board, you'll get a notice almost every day reminding you that your Seapass will be frozen if you exceed $200. And they'll want you to come to GS to pay it down. Just ignore the notices.

Typically a hold is put on the account. As I understand it as the account balance grows additional holds can be put on the account. At the end of the voyage the account is charged for the balance and then the hold is released.

Instead of using a debit card you might consider using a credit card or cash.

I would not use a Debit Card, go either cash or credit. I also have a separate acct for cruises so any expense on the Credit Card is paid with that acct not my household acct. I also got started in saving all my change so by cruise time I could have up to $300 to bring with me.

The debit card I added online is my secondary account

Depending on the length of the cruise we usually put money on our sea pass before the cruise in the form of OBC. Once we arrive the account is considered cash and we don’t give a credit card. If we put $100 per person we usually cash out at the end of the cruise, they are considered refundable

Just call Royal and tell them you want to add OBC to your seapass account they will transfer you to the department. Then when you check in online just do cash account When you get to the ship and check they will ask for a card tell them you have OBC, it’s a cash account.
