Weak mixed drinks?

I was (and I think the other poster as well) talking about frozen drinks, not drinks on the rocks.

 

I wasn't aware you were talking about frozen drinks. All sorts of drinks have been mentioned.

 

With that being said, extra ice and mixer would be an issue if the bartender pours liquor for one drink and puts too much of the other. Then there would be frozen drink left in the blender after they pour your drink.

There usually is something left over. I know they won't, but I'm always hoping they will give me the leftovers instead of dumping them.

Yep. I've seen that too. I don't worry about it anymore, though. Like I said I stuck to shots and wine last month. Those also won't give me the Diahbeetus with all that blasted sugar like the frozen drinks.

There are two reasons for drinks being weak, one of which was mentioned with leftover frozen drink concoction being left in the blender and then dumped into the sink. Part of that drink remnants going down the drain include alcohol that you paid for. Another area is the premade popular drinks that come from a pitcher that I have seen at the tequila and rum bars poolside. They are made in advance to speed up the process and who knows how much alcohol actually gets into the drink you paid for.

This is why I like to stick with beer during the day and Alchemy Bar or shots at night. No way you're not getting your monies worth that way.

I did and was given the remaining a number of times.

 

If not busy and they don't need the blender..they'll dump the remaining in if you are sitting there chatting.

Not on a Carnival cruise, but I noticed the drinks on my last NCL cruise to be very weak. I associated it with most everyone having the beverage package as a free perk, so they just watered them down. They didn’t even put forth much effort in trying to make the drink pretty (frozen concoctions), often not even resembling what I had ordered in the past. And they no longer even bothered having roaming waiters come by to ask if you wanted a drink. If you wanted one, you had to wait in an action roped off que at the bar for a long wait to order anything. I would bet it is all related to giving their package as a free perk—-they didn’t want to lose too much money.

Way off topic now, but I was on the NCL Escape 4/7 and noticed none of this..had no issues with the waiters in H20 or up on the higher sundecks.....YMMV.

I drank Scotch & Waters on the Pride and I don't think they shorted me on the shot.... but I can tell you that it is NO MORE than a shot.

 

In most shore side bars, you get that little extra when they tip the shot into your glass with the bottle still pouring just a little.

 

They make sure they don't give you a drop more than what fits in that shot glass.

 

It's still a full drink you pay for, just not anything more. That's OK, as long as I don't get less than I paid for.

All bartenders are different. If you feel like you are short changed alcohol, try a different bartender. If you like what you see, a tip goes a long way. We have experienced different pours from all bartenders, just need to find one or two you like.

I agree and that’s what I try to do but sometimes it’s not practical like when you’re in the dining room or at the casino and the bar is 2-3 deep. So you may be at the mercy of whoever is doing the drinks for the Bar Waiters.

I am just off of the Carnival Magic and I'm wondering if anyone else has found the mixed drinks to be light on alcohol lately. I cruised about a year ago on the same ship and had no issues, but this time the drinks seemed really weak.

 

Husband and I ordered painkillers from the red frog pub a few times, as it is one of our favorite drinks and we are convinced we paid $20+ on multiple occasions for two glasses of pineapple juice. We had a similar experience at the coffee bar with the "chocolate lovers" drink, which had neither vodka or chocolate and tasted like a straight latte.

 

They seemed to be pushing the $3 make it a double upgrade, which I'd never noticed on prior cruises.

 

has anyone else noticed weaker drinks? I might be a lunatic, but rum is a pretty strong flavor.

 

We did eventually find luck at the Tides bar on lido, and of course Alchemy, but I'm fairly irritated at the waste of money for the empty drinks.

 

I've had this happen before more than once. If I can I usually change bars or bartenders when it does happen because it seems to be bartender specific. I agree with some others it seems to be more likely if you don't see the drink being made, like when I'm playing in the casino.

We just cruised on carnival Ecstasy and we experienced the same thing. The first night out we ordered drinks from a waiter and we noticed they were very weak. So the next round we ordered I walked up to the bar to watch but it was obvious to me that the bartender went out of his way to get out of my line of sight. These were weak also. Next night we ordered the “double” but these were weaker than they should have been. We tried different bars with same results except the margarita pitcher at the blue iguana ( this comes out of a tap premixed ). We’ve never had this problem before. We don’t buy the drink plan which they seem to be really pushing. They scan your card before they make your drinks so it would be easy to “tag” certain passengers as “good tippers” or “special guests”. Otherwise we had a great cruise. We just got our drinks ashore before boarding and also drank the wine we brought with us.

This mirrors most of my bar experiences on cruises.  I have found that picking a primary bar and bartender and then introducing them to my friend President Jackson results in superior service!

I've experienced weak drinks a few times, when I've ordered the slushy type drinks that tend to be made in bulk... on our last cruise I ordered a pina colada from the atrium bar, and DH & I sat there drinking our drinks. I asked the bartender a few sips in if he had even put any rum in it and he kind of laughed and said, hey- maybe I forgot! He took it back and remade it. OH MY LORD I almost lived to regret that decision! The pina colada that I got back was almost clear, other than the crushed ice, there was so much rum in it!

 

I am a lightweight in the drinking department, so that one drink did me the whole night! In fact, the same bartender came back when I was halfway done and topped it up with more of the fruit juice and it still tasted strong!

Yup our last trip on the magic about a year ago drinks were weak everywhere. We had cheers too.

On our recent Glory trip i couldn't get a good Long Island, everyplace had them made up already in a jug and the all just tasted like sour mix.

Cheers on the Vista a couple months ago, I would say all the fruity/sugary drinks were indeed weak.  But I am used to making drinks at home with 2 oz. of 80 proof.  Even when switching to "gin on the rocks" or some such, it was just way lots of ice, not much alcohol, for my taste.  So, the best bang for buck I think is the Parched Pig IPA or equal, 16 oz can at 6.2 percent which equals 2 1/2 oz. of 80 proof alcohol per can!  Two of those in quick succession, I could definitely feel.

vodka martini up with olives, 3 oz of vodka, every time. I rarely see the bartenders free pouring. They always use a shot glass and 1 oz in a 16 oz fruity drink will not taste strong, but you are not being cheated.

Since I’m such a “light weight” in handling my alcohol, I actually prefer weaker drinks, and as it is, I space them out by hours, with plenty of hydration between, probably with a total of 3-4 drinks per day, when cruising. Any other time at home, or when out to dinner or casino, I stick to one drink only. So, weak drinks are fine for me! Keeps me upright, and not flat on my face! 🤣🤣

Hooray! Another light weight with alcohol. See my other post. I actually prefer weaker drinks. If strong, I’d never order any, because I’d spend my cruise sound asleep on one strong drink! Lol!

3 dollar make it a double have been around for a couple of years. I have found if you get a single it has basically one shot, if you get a double you get 2 shots and the bartender keeps pouring while putting the second shot it I do not drink much but it is always a double

You obviously did not go to the Alchemy Bar.  There is no such thing as a weak drink made by the mixologists there.

If you have Cheers, it's impossible for any beer to be the best bang for your buck.  Drink Grey Goose VX or Roca Patron.  Most expensive stuff on board that Cheers covers.

Good to be around happy drunk or sober people.......it is the mean ones I want to avoid.
