dlraff Posted May 21, 2018 #1 Share Posted May 21, 2018 Crown Princess Eastern Caribbean Voyager departing Ft. Lauderdale Feb. 5th 2019. Looking to book a balcony stateroom. Port vs. starboard, is one better than the other? Any opinions?
donaldsc Posted May 21, 2018 #2 Share Posted May 21, 2018 Makes no difference. The ocean is the same on both sides. You can never know in advance what side of the ship will be facing the ports when you dock. DON
wheezedr Posted May 21, 2018 #3 Share Posted May 21, 2018 No reason to pick one side over the other.
ltcal94 Posted May 21, 2018 #4 Share Posted May 21, 2018 I sometimes look at the route and pick which side will have sunset on the most sea days . On my upcoming cruise , there are two north bound sea days so I picked a port side cabin . Sent from my iPad using Forums
Rare villauk Posted May 21, 2018 #5 Share Posted May 21, 2018 Are there smoking areas on lower Princess decks (like on X) where the smoke can drift up towards cabins? Wondered if this was a specific side of the ship?
paul929207 Posted May 21, 2018 #6 Share Posted May 21, 2018 We sit on our balcony mostly in the late afternoon. We do not like the sun in our eyes, so I will pick the side that is going to be facing East in the afternoon the most.
skynight Posted May 21, 2018 #7 Share Posted May 21, 2018 Are there smoking areas on lower Princess decks (like on X) where the smoke can drift up towards cabins? Wondered if this was a specific side of the ship? There is a small fully covered outside cigarette smoking area on the starboard side aft promenade deck 7, outside of Club Fusion, where the walkway narrows. If there is any smell of smoke it would be in the last few cabins on deck 8 just above it. However, I have never heard or read anyone complain about this. Princess ships do not have a "side" for smoking. The Crown, and all Princess ships, just have a few small areas, including the one mentioned above, a small area of tables port side next to the Tradewinds Bar, deck 16, and a small section port side either on the Horizon Terrace or just above it outside of Sabatini's. There is also smoking in some sections of the casino, some days are smoke free, for players. The Speakeasy Cigar lounge is the only location for cigars and pipes on the ship. diane.in.ny Posted May 21, 2018 #8 Share Posted May 21, 2018 Depends how/when you'll be using your balcony. In very warm areas, like the Caribbean, I try to pick a cabin that will face east in the afternoon. Otherwise, I find the balcony to hot. On the other hand, in cooler climates, like the north Atlantic TA we'll be taking in September, I picked portside which will face south on the TA portion, to get as much sun as possible. On the Regal and Royal there is a designated smoking area on the aft Starboard side of the Promenade deck....we were in a suite on the Emerald deck aft and you could smell the smoke when smokers would congregate back there to smoke....:o
Notonboard Posted May 22, 2018 #10 Share Posted May 22, 2018 Port definitely, because we like to watch our ship leave port on the Port Everglades Webcam when we return home. We also tell our family to look for us waving and watch our ship sail off into the sunset.
