wheezedr Posted May 22, 2018 #3 Share Posted May 22, 2018 we have an 11 night Scandinavian cruise on the Regal Princess, booked from 20 august to 31 august, has anyone been on this ship/ done a similar cruise to these places. We are looking for cool shore tours worth doing... 1 day in Tallinn, Estonia, Easy to do on your own. Ship docks walking distance to old town 2 days St Peters-burg, Russia Plan two long days of touring. Lots of sights. Look at one of the private tour companies frequently mentioned here. SPB, Alla, etc 1 day in Stockholm, Sweden Need to know where you dock, probably Nynashamn. Must see is the Vasa and then time in Gamla Stan 1 day in Helsinki, Finland 1 day in Copenhagen, Denmark Canal tour and castle in town 1day in Oslo, Norway finish in the am at Warnemudne, Germany anyone got any awesoeme suggestions for what/where to do Best to search through the ports of call. Europe- Northern Europe/Baltic Sea. This cruise is usually titled the Baltic as that is the sea you are on. Rick Steves has a great book designed just for these ports. Check it out. Thrak Posted May 22, 2018 #4 Share Posted May 22, 2018 Welcome to Cruise Critic! You will find that this is a fountain of wonderful information and (usually) nice folks who are eager to help. I see that a link to your roll call has been posted to please take the advice given to ask any cruise-specific questions there but remember that other Princess related questions can be asked and answered in the general Princess forums. Any non-Princess related questions can be asked and answered in the other general forums. Please don't hesitate to ask questions and remember that, should you receive any snide or unhelpful replies, that there are many here who desire only to help. The few who may be rude should be ignored.
wishfulone Posted May 22, 2018 #5 Share Posted May 22, 2018 (edited) we have an 11 night Scandinavian cruise on the Regal Princess, booked from 20 august to 31 august, has anyone been on this ship/ done a similar cruise to these places. We are looking for cool shore tours worth doing... 1 day in Tallinn, Estonia, 2 days St Peters-burg, Russia 1 day in Stockholm, Sweden 1 day in Helsinki, Finland 1 day in Copenhagen, Denmark 1day in Oslo, Norway finish in the am at Warnemudne, Germany anyone got any awesoeme suggestions for what/where to do We did the Copenhagen return cruise on the Regal last year. It's a magnificent ship with a very happy crew and you'll have a great cruise I'm sure. Tallinn is an incredible preserved medieval city and can be easily walked and best enjoyed that way. Many people book a two day experience either with Princess or one of two other highly regarded private companies. Alla is one but you'll find the name of the other in the ports of call section and someone on your roll call will definitely be organising private tours. Having been to St Petersburg before I chose particular experiences for this trip. Don't miss Peterhoff Palace, the Hermitage and the Church of the Spilled Blood - all icons of the city. The river cruise is rubbish and not worth the money. The hoho is excellent in Helsinki. Stockholm is wonderful to walk or choose your must see sites. Walk in Oslo then catch the hoho or a ship's tour to the VIking Museum, Fram, Kon Tiki if that interests you. Copenhagen is best explored on foot. Vehicles can't get into the old city anyway, but again the HOHO is good. For a best overall tour walk down to the water and take a river cruise. The commentary gives a wonderful overview of Copenhagen. We caught he train to Berlin. PRincess offered a tour that included a short bus drive to orientate you to the city. We made our own way on foot to the places we wanted to see in depth but I notice you're disembarking there anyway. Have a great cruise. sergeant655 Posted May 22, 2018 #6 Share Posted May 22, 2018 I just got off the regal. for Talllin and Helsinki. There are shuttles that will take you from the pier to town that approximately 10 euros for round-trip St. Petersburg there is no Russian visa required if you are booked on a escorted tour . You can use the ships tours or the private ones mentioned on other posts. The ships tours also come with priority for immigration Which takes time. Copenhagen The port is a bit of a way from town however hop on hop off tour bus does come by the ship Stockholm is about a hour away from Nynäshamn A excursion is recommended for Stockholm If you want to do activities on your own princess offers stockholm on your own which is just a bus transfer to and from Oslo is in walking distance from theship
paul929207 Posted May 22, 2018 #7 Share Posted May 22, 2018 St. Petersburg - You must book a ship tour, a private tour or secure a visa in advance. You cannot just walk of the ship like in most other ports. We will be there in July and have a two day tour with Alla. The cost is about half a similar tour with Princess. For the other ports, get a copy of Rick Steves's book mentioned above.
skynight Posted May 22, 2018 #8 Share Posted May 22, 2018 we have an 11 night Scandinavian cruise on the Regal Princess, booked from 20 august to 31 august, has anyone been on this ship/ done a similar cruise to these places. We are looking for cool shore tours worth doing... 1 day in Tallinn, Estonia, We took a guided walking tour booked through SPB Tours 2 days St Peters-burg, Russia Would Also suggest the 2 day tour through SPB or another Tour company 1 day in Stockholm, Sweden We docked at Nynashamn - and selected to do a Princess walking tour of Stockholm old city 1 day in Helsinki, Finland We took the shuttle (3 Euros I think) to the Market Square area and walked around. 1 day in Copenhagen, Denmark We spent 3 days here pre-cruise and explored the city. There is a Ho-Ho bus that stops by the pier. Copenhagen is a very walkable city 1day in Oslo, Norway From the port we took a ferry to the Viking Ship Museum. finish in the am at Warnemudne, Germany We took an SPB walking tour of Warnemunde and Rostock, but I'm thinking you will just disembark and travel to Berlin or to the airport. anyone got any awesoeme suggestions for what/where to do You really need to join the roll call. This close to sailing there is probably lots of activity and spots remaining in private tours. Above is what we did.
