The Upgrade Fairy Lives - and here is proof

About four days before our Viking Homelands cruise this month we had an email from Viking to say we had been upgraded from a Penthouse Suite PS3 to an Explorer suite on the front of the ship - great excitement. The very next day a further email came through with a further upgrade to the Owners Suite. We could not believe our luck. Our cruise was fabulous -and would have been wherever we were staying. The ship, officers, crew, itinerary, entertainment and tours were all first class. We experienced a few minor hiccups with food and service - but these were very minor. Overall we thought the catering was good and with good choices of food and venues. Definitely a once in a lifetime experience to enjoy such a lovely suite on such a wonderful ship.

Was this an upgrade that you were given or was it a chance to purchase a 'better' cabin?

How wonderful. I have heard of this before, whether for a upgarde for a upcharge price or just a" fairy godmother "upgrade '

Too bad Vikng does not have a casino.... you were on a lucky streak...

No - this was a complimentary upgrade - still can hardly believe it.

Even a PV will suffice!

Perfect!

We have been upgraded twice to the Explorer Suite on river cruise and have to admit that was delightful. We purchased the AA Veranda Suite on our recent Portugal cruise and it was even nicer than the Explorer Suite on the regular longships.

OK, Upgrade Fairy, I'm waving my hands to get your attention for our upcoming Med Odyssey cruise. Not asking for Owner's Suite but PV would be nice. Of course if would be nice to get before excursion booking window.

wondering how many previous cruises you have taken and were you booked through a TA or Viking directly? Maybe the upgrade fairy will visit us on our next cruise!

Many previous cruises but this was our first experience with Viking. We used an online TA in the USA booking roughly one year in advance - at the time they offered a better price than our local TAs here in Oz.

We have never been visited by the Upgrade Fairy before and have always booked a cabin or suite that we were happy to be in. Since there was no apparent reason for the upgrade I think it must be a very random process.

Interesting that you live in Australia and could get a better deal through US. I live in New Zealand and we never seem to get good deals with Viking. I enquired about an Asian cruise recently that was offering free airfare, and was told it was only for Australians. It states in my brochure (in the fine print) that any cruises booked outside of Australia and New Zealand will be charged at the equivilant Australian price. I have done many River Cruises with APT and Scenic and always have got the free airfares.

We have done eight river cruises and one ocean cruise with extensions all booked directly with Viking; no travel agents.

Wow,waving our hands, feet, and paws at the Upgrade fairy! Taking our 5th or 6th river cruise pretty soon and have booked our next 3 ocean cruises and would be ever so grateful to have an upgrade. Or, trade that for the beverage package (cheap date) on the river cruise.

Really, just so committed to Viking that it’s hard to look at the catalogs for other cruises. We will obviously continue, upgrade or not.

When you got the upgrade, we’re you asked if you wanted it? Or did it just happen?

We are on Jupiter right now & we didn’t know we were upgraded until I was making dining reservations & the cabin number was different.  They moved us from a V to a PH Verandah!  There’s so much storage & room in a PH, I told my husband we are never going back to a verandah.  We did book a PH for our Southeast Asia trip.

WOW! There is an excuse to check into MyVikingJourney on a regular basis, just to see if you have been visited by the Upgrade Fairy.

Actually it was on the ship. Since we booked a V cabin, we had to wait until we were on board to Mae any dining reservations. We had to wait a bit to get our luggage since our tags were the old cabin number. Same for the folks who were upgrade from our cabin, their luggage had to be moved.

A nice way to make guests happy. My upcoming cruise is my first on Viking Ocean. While an upgrade would be nice, just being on a cruise is okay.  From what I read, there really aren’t any small cabins.

if there are cabins open that haven’t sold, upgrading is a good move.
Windstar upgraded us 2 years ago.  We were informed a month before embarkation. Loved the suite.  Next cruise, we booked a similar suite.

Okay then!! That makes a bit more sense. Your vacated cabin cabin probably went to someone (like me) who had booked a V GTY cabin.

Same thing just happened to us on the Star. Signed in a couple of days before departure and saw that we were bumped from a DV4 to a PV1. No other notice from Viking or our TA. Extra space is great but the best thing so far is getting all my shirts and pants pressed for free!
