Carribean Princess - CB

WIll someone please tell me why the Carribean Princess is referred to as CB? Thanks

Because there is also the Coral Princess and the Crown Princess.

CB: Caribbean Princess

CO: Coral Princess

KP: Crown Princess

DI: Diamond Princess

EP: Emerald Princess

NP: Golden Princess

AP: Grand Princess

IP: Island Princess

MJ: Majestic Princess

PA: Pacific Princess

GP: Regal Princess

RP: Royal Princess

RU: Ruby Princess

SA: Sapphire Princess

CP: Sea Princess

YP: Sky Princess

TP: Star Princess

SP: Sun Princess

 

Obviously when they chose CP for Sea Princess no one thought to anticipate there would be a future ship with the actual initials of 'CP'. Never mind three of them.

It's interesting to note that every ship has it's two letter designation, but noone ever uses it to refer to a ship except Caribbean Princess. Do you suppose it is a mark of affection? EM

While I realize the significance of the ship’s call letters in the maritime world, I have never fully understood the use of the two letter ship abbreviations on Cruise Critic. First, if a post is made using the incorrect abbreviation, six people feel the need to offer a correction. Furthermore, it can’t be that we all are just way too busy to actually type out the ship name, can it?

I think CB is used for many reasons. The first is that it's easy to type (especially for those who can't remember how to spell Caribbean). The second is that using the correct abbreviation is a way to signal that you're a Princess insider.

I was thinking about why everyone uses CB for the Caribbean Princess the other day. I think it's because all the other ships are referred to by their first name such as Royal, Crown, Regal. With the CB it would sound strange to call her the Caribbean which sounds more like a destination. We all love to shorten names and it does take time to write out Caribbean Princess all the time.
