lottiegreen56 Posted August 2, 2018 Author #26 Share Posted August 2, 2018 I thought I post this from the Wizard of Odds website because I always had questions about the auto shuffler. The advantage is more hands played in a shorter period of time, but the in game advantage actually goes up for the player. Blackjack - Shuffling What is your opinion of the continuous shuffle machines now being used at the blackjack tables in Las Vegas? Do these machines give the house more of and edge even when a person is using basic strategy? JOHN FROM LONDON, CANADA For those who don't understand what you're asking, there are new machines that take the blackjack discards and place them randomly back in the deck after each hand. If you are using basic strategy, then the shufflers actually lower the house edge slightly, due to the omission of the cut card effect. It is my understanding that they do provide an honest random shuffle. However, the shuffling machine allows the dealer to waste less time shuffling and spend more time dealing. This means you will spend more time playing, and thus more hands for the house edge to grind you down. Automatic shufflers don't allow for ace tracking though which is my big gripe. I'll never claim I can count cards, most who try actually lose money because they lose track and then play worse than they would just using basic strategy. However, I can count how many aces have been played with pretty good accuracy. If you know there's a lot of aces left in the shoe at the end, particularly in double deck games, you can increase your bet and swing the odds your way a bit, not enough to make the odds in your favor but almost an even proposition. If you factor in your comps + the enjoyment you get from playing, it's a winning proposition in my book. But the ability to do that is not there with an automatic shuffler or in 6/5 blackjack because ace tracking depends on the ability to take advantage of higher payoff (when you have a big bet) when you get a natural 21. Mommawo Posted January 30, 2019 #28 Share Posted January 30, 2019 So for someone who has never ever been in a casino and want to spend maybe 20 bucks total what does one suggest I do? Just want to see what all the hubbub is about 😂

Or do one or two blackjack hands and the rest on slots. They do have free demos listed in the fun times, yet remember, the house USUALLY wins.

NCTribeFan Posted January 30, 2019 #31 Share Posted January 30, 2019 There was Pai Gow on the NCL Star TA last spring. I watched for a while. Where is anyone reading that there's a 3rd Green on the wheel? I'd love to read that myself. Guess I'll have to go find it because I have a hard time believing that. But I'm actually a big fan of the zeros. My favorite on the Carnival ships (and they had it on MSC Divina) is the red/even/0 and black/odd/0 outside bet. I always bet black odd #s and 0/00 anyway, so that's been good to me. Pays 3-to-1.

I receive Vegas comped trips based on my roulette play; triple zero tables have invaded Vegas and my favorite property, the cosmo, just added a triple zero table. They hook people in as they often have very low table minimums compared to the double zero tables. However, in their high limits, Cosmo is one of the few casinos that offers an "euro" table which has both only one zero and the "en prison" rule which pays half on even money bets (high, low, odds, evens, red and black) if the zero hits. Have to pay to play there, $100 min; yet if you bet $100 on odds, the zero hits you receive $50 back. Also the MGM Grand and Mirage have Euro tables on their regular casino floors for $25 mins on weekdays and weekend mornings yet can climb to $50/$100 anytime if they get full. CheckersMidwest Posted January 31, 2019 #33 Share Posted January 31, 2019 I am a terrible gambler. I walk through the casino and lose money. My husband does play Roulette & does very well. However, on the Legend in August, there was something 'wrong' with the table (maybe extra green 0, something husband didn't like) and he didn't play it at all. He played craps instead. Hoping the Horizon is normal.
MechE31 Posted January 31, 2019 #34 Share Posted January 31, 2019 Just saw this thread. They only had triple 0 wheels on the Carnival Sunshine during our November cruise which was right after they got out of dry dock. They had a double 0 electronic/bubble craps. Of note though is they had an any green bet that paid 13/1. So this was actually an even money bet.
Davey Wavey Posted February 1, 2019 #35 Share Posted February 1, 2019 I live at the roulette table. If I had paid for the cabin and saw triple 0 on the wheel, even though I actually play 0/00 almost every spin, I would invoke the 24 hour guarantee and leave. KelSny1011 Posted February 1, 2019 #36 Share Posted February 1, 2019 (edited) On RCL some of their roulette tables only have 0. If I remember correctly thats how roulette is played overseas and since the ship we were on was/is used for European cruises they had those tables as well. Never heard of 3 different 0's though. Sorry to piggy back off of this post but does anyone know if Carnival offers single deck BJ? We were able to get the dealers to do single deck for $25 a hand on RCL just curious if Carnival offers the same. Thats just nuts Yes. Honestly, a majority of people that are in the casino don't know math and odds. They think they do, but they don't. That's why casinos stay in business. This is now a 7.7% house edge game and it's not going anywhere. People are still going to play it because....a majority of people that are in the casino don't know math and odds. 😳 Edited February 16, 2019 by ElCrappyTan

Thats just nuts Hi Yes, they do, and people do keep playing. Don't forget people kept playing when they added the second "0". We all know that some say they play to "win", but most play for entertainment. If that's the case then all this changes is how fast the casino wins your money. If you go in with $20 and it takes you 10 minutes or an hour to lose it the casino makes the same amount, unless you are making other purchases. What the casino is betting on is that if someone loses that $20 in ten minutes, they will keep playing and lose even more. Some will, and some will just be p-off and not come back. That's why they say, gamble with what you are prepared to lose. I got to admit, it's pretty sad. They are guaranteed to win, and yet they just try to find ways to win it faster. I won't play on one of those tables.

For both of those you get a higher play amount for a buy in and you just try to do the best that you can. For slots, you get something like unlimited spins for 20 minutes. If you do decide to play blackjack, I would suggest reading basic strategy before playing...things like stay on 12 or higher if the dealer is showing 12-16, etc. That will at least give you a fighting chance. The tourneys are really bad from an EV perspective but they are probably the most fun you'll have for 20-25. Craps is probably the only game you can still play. The 6/5 BJ, auto shufflers and third green spots are making me sick to my stomach to revisit!

I agree that you aren't going to win money, but for someone who just wants to try it, it's much better than sitting down with $20 and losing it in 4 deals. Same with slots. Again, I agree with craps. The would have to really alter the rules for it to change the play. Craps is already a crap shoot anyway. Proabably one of the most confusing casino games, but so much fun once you learn the rules. When people ask me about craps, I always say: It's a very fun game to play, but you either win big, or lose big.
