GoTravelLife Posted August 16, 2018 #26 Share Posted August 16, 2018 If you had to pick, what’s the absolute best food you’ve eaten on a NCL ship? (I love to talk food, and I’m busy compiling a list of things not to miss! Osso Bucco at La Cucina! (per my husbands vote too). Mike D. Posted August 16, 2018 #27 Share Posted August 16, 2018 OK, lots of my favorites have been mentioned but for the sake of originality: Smoked salmon with capers in Garden Cafe (when I can get it) or the same on the buffet with the suite breakfast in Moderno on the Star,
casofilia Posted August 16, 2018 #28 Share Posted August 16, 2018 I don't know about favourite but we were able to have breakfast in the Moderno on one cruise and it was "different" to be able to get a nice, if small, piece of filet for breakfast!! Shellbelle28 Posted August 17, 2018 #31 Share Posted August 17, 2018 Does Cagney's (or Moderno, can't remember) still have banana cream pie? DROOL! Also, the shrimp cocktail in Cagney's is really good. And, lastly, the fried calamari in La Cucina is the best I've had anywhere.
casofilia Posted August 17, 2018 #32 Share Posted August 17, 2018 In Moderno for lunch I always started with double shrimp cocktail (6 prawns) without any sauce. Washed down with a Bushwahcker.

CruisingNole Posted August 17, 2018 #35 Share Posted August 17, 2018 So nothing from the MDR, have to go to specialty for a decent meal? Sounds like NCL.
casofilia Posted August 17, 2018 #36 Share Posted August 17, 2018 So nothing from the MDR, have to go to specialty for a decent meal? Sounds like NCL. NO. The meals in the MDRs are usually DECENT!! The specialty restaurants have some things that many believe are special and so their favourite.
adjensen Posted August 17, 2018 #37 Share Posted August 17, 2018 Chicken wings in O'Sheehan's (or the equivalent, can sit there for hours, ordering nothing but drinks and chicken wings, lol,) and Sliders on the appetizer menu in the Main Dining Room. Rare Von & John Posted August 17, 2018 #38 Share Posted August 17, 2018 My favorite thing would be the Oreo cheesecake in Cagney's, but sadly they have removed it from the Cagney's menu. Every time we cruise, I keep hoping they have returned it to the menu. However, the raspberry creme burlee is very good. We also love the crepe station in the buffet. A couple of quick questions: Is the Crepe Station for breakfast, lunch or both? Do they have both sweet & savory crepes? Thanks -- Von
kirsty_r Posted August 17, 2018 #39 Share Posted August 17, 2018 A couple of quick questions: Is the Crepe Station for breakfast, lunch or both? Do they have both sweet & savory crepes? Thanks -- Von I’ve seen the crepe station mainly at dinner or late night. (May have been at lunch but I was more interested in the pasta station!) It’s only been sweet ones I’ve had but they may have had cheese etc. (Otherwise get a plain one and find the savoury fillings and fill it yourself perhaps from the buffet) Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
newmexicoNita Posted August 17, 2018 #40 Share Posted August 17, 2018 wow, hard to say: for anyone who thinks you have to go to specialty dining room to get anything decent, you don't understand the question: it has nothing to do with decent, but the FAVORITE. I would hope, most of us would find our favorites being served in specialty dining rooms for heavens sake. For me: I would say the cheese biscuits in Modernos: the Fondue in Le Bistro: and yes, the chicken wings in O'Sheehan's. More than the best ever, I am just a chicken wing addict. CarrieAP Posted August 17, 2018 #45 Share Posted August 17, 2018 Salmon tartar appetizer in MDRs for my husband, even ordering 2 one evening! They are good. Not a big fan of the deserts but did enjoy the many creme brûlée varieties! The MDR food overall was much tastier than I expected on our first NCL cruise (Getaway) last year. Looking forward to our 14 N TA in October so I can try all the restaurants and many of these dishes on the Breakaway!
Rare Peachypooh Posted August 17, 2018 #46 Share Posted August 17, 2018 The ham and cheese panninis at lunchtime in the buffet, the lamb chops (but not in LeBistro they put olives on them), shrimp cocktail in Cagneys, the half roasted chicken in the main dining room. Sand and Seas Posted August 17, 2018 #47 Share Posted August 17, 2018 Love the Maui Onion soup in the MDR and the Four Mushroom soup in Le Bistro. Have had many great meals in the MDRs, but now that I'm Platinum plus get the SDP we HAVE to eat in specialties 5 times a cruise. We have been known to eat in Le Bistro or Cagney's, play at the casino a little, and then pop into a MDR for our dessert:D

Medtech2 Posted August 18, 2018 #49 Share Posted August 18, 2018 Okay, I am different I know, but I absolutely love the Muesli for breakfast. It is so creamy and good, and I have never had it anywhere else nor have I successfully replicated it. While DH would like steak and eggs every morning I eat the Muesli, lol. tonit964 Posted August 18, 2018 #50 Share Posted August 18, 2018 I love the Filet with Gorgonzola crust in La Cucina. I also love any of the souffle desserts in the MDR. Served warm with a sauce to pour in the middle. That filet was THE best, I loved it! Sadly, it seems that the new menu in La Cecina does not have it anymore but a different filet. I'll find out in October if it comes close.
