Has anyone been offered an onboard credit to move to another cabin? We just downgraded from a balconly room to an ocean view for a huge refundable onboard credit. We sail this weekend and the credit was to good to pass on. We have never gotten an upgrade but the down grade almost makes it a free cruise!

Someone recently posted about this. Sounds amazing!! Enjoy your cruise!! Too good to pass up those downgrade offers! I'd guess Alaska would be the only place I would want that balcony and not be interested in the downgrade offer. All other sailings, I'm in!! lol Have never been offered one, but it would seem that Princess has been over selling balcony guarantees!

congrats on the "down grade" - we would have taken that in a heartbeat...just like we did with our 'move over offer' - which we booked for a cruise the next week - went from 5 days to 7 days with increased grats, insurance, port fees all covered

 

OBC was totally refundable...we got a 'little check' back in about 2-3 weeks

a little casino, if I remember

 

and still got a check back

Happened to me last year on our Med cruise. Went down to a deluxe balcony from a minisuite on the Royal. Total fare given as a refundable OBC. Got quite a bit back in a check about 3 weeks after the end of cruise. Allowed us to go on our British Isles cruise this year.

Yeah, I got a downgrade offer - switch from a balcony to an oceanview for a full credit of my cruise fare ($7,000). Problem was the email offer was sent at noon the day before departure and I didn't check my email until I returned from the cruise. Lesson learned! Check your email right up until departure.

Yes, we got a downgrade offer on our Japan cruise--the deal was to give up our balcony for an inside HA cabin and receive 100% of our cruise fare as refundable OBC. That was over $6000 in refundable OBC--we did more excursions than we probably would have and still got a very significant check about 3 weeks after the cruise.

 

It isn't quite as good a deal as a move over offer (where you get a refund + a free cruise), but not bad at all.

It isn't quite as good a deal as a move over offer (where you get a refund + a free cruise), but not bad at all.[/quote']Maybe the rules are different in Australia, but just before our Xmas cruise round New Zealand in 2015 on the Emerald Princess we received a phone call from Princess asking if we we would be prepared to move from our inside cabin, on Riviera just beside the door to the aft pool(our favorite inside area) to an inside somewhere at the front of the ship and a lower category. We were offered the princely sum of A$200 to move. We turned it down!

We haven't, but met the person who gave up their cabin for us as she moved 2 cabins down the hallway. They gave her $400 OBC. It was cruise lines fault due to a computer screen error many years ago. It actually was not a downgrade either for her.

Last year we went on the round-trip LA to Cabo Cruise and I originally booked an inside cabin on the aloha deck by the back door. I then received an Up Sell offer to a Caribe balcony that I could not pass up. The day before our cruise I received a phone call telling me that they had oversold the balconies and if I moved back to an inside cabin… Are you ready for this… We could have all of our money back In the form of refundable onboard credit and go for free! We said, yes please [emoji4]

On our January 2018 cruise on the Regal by son accepted a downgrade from a balcony to an inside . He received a free cruise and all of the amount he had paid as refundable OBC. He had his wife had a wonderful time! On the same cruise my DH and I were offered an upselll from a Mini suite to an aft wrap around full suite for a total of $458 .it was wonderful and really made our cruise special. Both of us btw booked directly through a Princess. On the other hand my oldest son was also on this cruise. He booked a mini suite through a big box agency and was not offered any deals. Who knows!

2 days before our cruise from Adelaide to Singapore in March, we received a move over offer to move from our balcony cabin to an inside for a full refund of our cruise fare in refundable OBC and specialty dining. We jumped at a free cruise!

On the same cruise we dined one night with a couple (also Australian) who had booked a balcony but were upgraded to a suite.
