Temperature inside ship and staterooms

I'll be going on the Allure soon in 4 weeks. How cold is the air-conditioned areas like the main dining room, restaurants, casino, staterooms? Do we have control of the temperature in our room (it's an OV balcony). Should I expect to wear my shorts/dresses and "summer" clothes in the evenings or pants? When on vacation in Florida I'm typically cold when in restaurants, movie theatres, grocery stores, etc since I'm wearing my "vacation clothes." Just trying to figure out what to pack!

There is a temperature control in the stateroom, however you may not be able to get it as cool as you like if your neighbors have their balcony door open. That affects the ability of the system to cool nearby staterooms.

 

The public areas can also be cool. My wife typically wears a light sweater to the theater.

We found Allure to be the warmest ship we've ever been on. We've been on her twice, and both times, we couldn't get the cabin cool enough, and the public areas were also very warm.

 

At the end of August, the temperature indicator on my travel alarm clock showed that the cabin averaged around 76 degrees

During the day, I was comfortable in shorts and t shirts or tank tops. The windjammer was a comfortable temperature. Our cabin we kept on the cooler side and it was fine. The dial setting was at 10 to 11 o’clock. The kids preferred their cabin warmer. Their dial was at the 12 o’clock position for the most part.

At night, I wore long pants, t shirt and sweater and was comfortable. The theater and skating rink were chilly. The a/c vents in the theater are under the seats and it did get drafty.

I think ships are warmer in the public areas than they were 10ish years ago. I guess to save a/c costs? I always bring a sweatshirt or sweater to movies and I freeze in grocery stores in the summer. But on the Allure I find the public areas warmer than the average movie theater or grocery store. I usually bring a couple sweaters to layer, but typically don’t need them in dining room or casino or theatres, etc.

Our OV cabin midship on deck 7, 2 weeks ago Allure started out about 75-76 ish with temp control set to cold. About mid week if got down to low 70-72. I like it cold and my wife suffers. I would be more concerned about the bed being hard as a rock. Cabin guy said no more egg crate pads.

I was on the 9/16 sailing of the Allure and had a Central Park Balcony cabin (10215) that you cold hang meat in, I had good neighbors, they all kept their doors closed. However, my son had a cabin on the other side of ship that was comfortable but never really got that cold. As a suggestion, if your cabin does not cool down enough ask you room guy to have someone check your air filter.

As a Brit I find that they always keep the ship just above freezing and will turn my cabin control into the red as soon as I settle in.

My husband would live in a meat locker if he could. So, when we get in any cabin on any ship, the temp control goes down to the lowest setting. After a few days we tweak it a little if it's too cold, but that's rare. I've learned to wear socks and long pants in the cabin, and I've grown accustomed to cooler rooms any where I am with him.

All the ships are too warm for us, we like sleeping in 69/70 and are used to it. I bring one of those interior thermometers with me and never does my cabin get cooler than 74, although I do believe on the Harmony the ac worked best in the stateroom a few times it did go down to 72, but its always too warm for us, and yes, its on the lowest setting and our curtains are drawn in our balcony cabin.

 

I did have a JS on the Oasis and perhaps suites and junior suites get cooler, we did have the temperature down to 72.

Forgot to mention we also pack a 10" fold-flat fan that we run all night, pointed at my husband. I read that a fan makes a room feel 5 degrees cooler than the real temperature, so this works great for Mr. pcur.

We also bring a fan, battery operated small Honeywell brand.

About the Presidential Suite 6414 on Liberty

 

We had the sucker cranked all the way down and it was frigid in our room, the others reported no problems in their rooms either (it has 4 bedrooms) We kept our balcony doors shut.

 

We did notice a lot of very warm areas in the public areas though.

Just be aware, and I look to my fellow cruisers to help me fill in the gaps here:

 

Pretty sure this was on our Oasis sailing, but not sure if it is also on other classes of ships. There is a master power switch near the door, as well as a light switch etc... We made the mistake one cruise of turning off the master switch at night, thinking it was the light switch. (maybe had one cocktail to many that night)

 

Problem was the master switch also turned off the HVAC and it got REALLY stuffy and warm in our cabin by morning time.

 

Am I remembering this right?

Yep, the master switch turns off the A/C.

I’ve never had temp issues, except on my girls cruise where my roomie insisted on leaving the balcony door open at all times! It was constantly hot and humid :(. And windy.

Also- I always bring a hoodie for the showroom. It gets chilly in there!
