Hi  All

I will be going in May 2019 on my first cruise with Carnival. 6 people in 2 cabins

can I buy 200 shares of Carnival stock and receive 2 credits (1 per each stateroom - I am paying for all 6 people)

Are you seriously thinking of spending almost $12,000 to get $200 OBC? Although, Carnival is still a very good company which does well in the market and pays dividends. I bought it for $30 a long time ago and keep on investing within my IRA.

and it is not spending but investing

Hi

That's right...you tell him. When he purchased his shares for $30, there were people on this site that were saying they wouldn't buy Carnival shares even if it fell back to $15. The odds of being wrong  are always possible when you make an investment, but if you like and use the product, you are starting from a better position. So even Coevan's investment has doubled in value, with 3%+ dividends for all those years, and you can add whatever after tax monies from the OBC. Mine add up to more than what I paid for the shares, all by themselves. I can't imagine too many shareholders complaining.

Found out after booking a cruise, shareholder OBC will be given to only one person per cabin.  So, if there are two of you, only one of you will receive the credit.  I find this extremely unfair!

How do you find it unfair that the shareholder benefit is only paid to an actual shareholder?  The point is to reward the person for investing in the company.  Should they also pay out a dividend to the roommate as well?

I think the point was that if both people in the cabin are shareholders, only one of them gets "rewarded".

However this is not what the OP is saying. He is paying for 6 people, doesn't say any others are shareholders

Correct, if two or more shareholders are in the same cabin, only one receives the benefit.  Why?  I have just as many shares as my cabin mate.  Why can't we both be rewarded for our investment.  Yet another perk being taken away.

I realize this situation is different from the OP but I thought I'd share my experience as it was somewhat related.

absurd, what an odd take on a shareholder benefit. So, my wife and I have a joint Fidelity account with 200 shares, I was not expecting 2 benefits. The rules are very clear and we find it a very generous perk.

How can you call this a "perk taken away" when there never was a perk for more than 1 shareholder credit per cabin?

My husband and I jointly own 100 shares of CCL stock.  When we sail with friends, we book our friend and me in one cabin and the friend's husband and my husband in another cabin.  Since we have different booking numbers, we submit two shareholder benefit requests.  My husband and I each receive the obc.  According to the info below, we are well within policy to book this way.

From the Shareholder Benefit link:

This benefit is available to shareholders holding a minimum of 100 shares of Carnival Corporation or Carnival plc. Employees, travel agents cruising at travel agent rates, tour conductors or anyone cruising on a reduced-rate or complimentary basis are excluded from this offer. This benefit is not transferable, cannot be exchanged for cash and, cannot be used for casino credits/charges and gratuities charged to your onboard account. Only one onboard credit per shareholder-occupied stateroom.

Hi Clearwatergirl

Sorry to be piling on. The reason you both can't get the full OBC is because that is not what is being offered. That is also why it is not a perk being taken away...it was never offered. I don't really understand your confusion. If you want to receive the same OBC benefit as your roommate, then you need to share.

hope this helps

  • 4 weeks later...

You can book a cabin with you in one cabin and wife in 2nd cabin. Then each of you can get a A stock credit by turning in the stock information separately for each room. Once you get on board you can move the person from one room to the other guest services. The credit will follow that person. I know this to be a fact because we just did it and it worked great.

Abusing the system is a good way to get the benefit eliminated.

I was told by My Carnival PVP to do it this way

I would hope there was another couple or kids involved. You aren't getting a second cabin to save $250? If it was your kids with the same last name I doubt Carnival would honor 2 stock benefits
