RoyalUP? (Bid for stateroom upgrade)

Couple of questions about this!

1. Does the category of room you book have any effect on what rooms they offer to upgrade you to? (i.e if I'm booked in an interior, would I still receive an offer for a star class room, assuming one was available).

2. Does the class of room you're booked in appear to have any effect on how your bids do? (same as above, if I'm booked in an interior and bid on a star class room, do I have a worse chance than if I were a balcony of JS)

3. If I get upgraded to a room with a larger capacity (or a suite with suite benefits) and wanted to move someone from another room onboard in to mine, is that allowed?

Not trying to game the system or anything, just curious how it works and thinking ahead to possibly booking my next cruise as an interior, and if theres a chance to upgrade to a nicer room, I'd do it, otherwise I'd just stay as is happily!

Thanks for all your responses to the above everyone!

2 more questions as a result:

1. What's the "lowest" category of room you've had but gotten an offer for star class.

2. Same question as above, but for a sky class room.

Thanks and happy bidding!

It's  not RCL running the program

That is correct and the entire reason that everyone who speculates that it is based on what you previously paid for your room is incorrect. Royal and NCL do not send over financial information over to a 3rd party that they are outsourcing to.

I shake my head every time someone repeats that information on social media as it is 100% false but someone saw it somewhere and they repeat it, and they repeat it until people actually believe it. Think about it logically.........

Is there anyway to see where the bidding stands so you can modify your bid if need be?

AFAIK this would effectively turn it into an auction and the information and analytics collected by rci would not be as useful to them.

Has anyone bid on an upgrade on the 8/24 Symphony of the Seas sailing? Has anyone heard back yet?

I had made some bids but withdrew them when I noticed that a guaranteed GS popped up on the RCCL site, so I self- upgraded and withdrew my bids. That was in July. Now the cruise is 12 days away and I don’t have a stateroom assignment yet. I’m just wondering if they are going to assign rooms to the successful bidders before assigning the rooms booked as guaranteed. Anyone have any insights?

That's where the close to zero chance comes in - the chances of a successful Royal Up upgrade are small enough as it is but getting the same cabin on a B2B are very low.

That's why I said less than zero. 😉

Stranger Things" have happened...my booked cabin can hold 6 cruiser's and there's only two of us. We'll see...I might be open to change cabins from one leg to the next, but as I said ... if not I'm happy trying out this new (to me) category.

Its deja vu all over again. 😉

We are sailing mid-September on Anthem.  A large group of us are on another social media forum, and we had about half a dozen of us receive assignments of gty suite cabins last night and this morning.  No one has reported winning a RoyalUp yet, even though several of us are waiting to see.

The last cruise I was on, we got our gty cabin assignment 3 days ahead of the cruise, and others had won RoyalUps well before then.

That tells me it can go either way.  Hang in there!  ☺️

Thanks to reading your post I checked and found I’ve been assigned too!  Hope you hear something about your RoyalUp soon!

Thanks so much for your reply. I’ve never done a guaranteed room before so I don’t know what to expect. I know it’s going to be assigned, I’m not worried about that, I just don’t want to have to straighten it all out at the port before embarking. I’m good with 3 days before, although I rather sooner than later. That’s just me. I’m the type that peeks at presents before Christmas and skips to the end with mystery books. Patience is not my strength lol

My pleasure.  And I understand.  I would rather hear before 3 days too.  And we did this time.  Others on our cruise found out last night, and I didn't.  But I woke up to an email telling me that my Guest Vacation Documents were now ready (they were already completed up to the point of printing the Set and Sail passes), so I knew our account had been updated.  I suggest keeping an eye out for that email...if you aren't already checking your online account several times a day like I did.   ☺️

Serveral times a day, and in the middle of the night too! I’m a bit (ok very) compulsive!

Have a great trip!!

My question is...If I booked a JR Suite  (double pts) and bid on GS (double pts), will I lose my double points or will they remain the same. I read somewhere where you don't get additional points and I am okay with that. I don't want to lose my double points because they will move me to the next level. If that is the case, I will cancel my Bid.

Your points accumulate based on the original stateroom category, so you would get the extra point per night.

I'm going to ask my question again it looks like it got a but buried (which happens in a big thread like this sometimes).

1. What's the "lowest" category of room you've had but gotten an offer for star class.

2. Same question as above, but for a sky class room.

Thanks everyone and happy bidding!

We are in JS's for several upcoming sailing.   On our one Oasis class ship we were able to bid on Sky Class GS, OS, CLS and 1 bed Aquatheatre.

On our Vision class ships we were able to bid on GS, OS and RS

Im sure this has been asked but I can't find the answer in this huge thread.....If Im in a sky class suite and win a bid for a star class suite, will I be refunded what I paid for drink packages, dining packages, and gratuities that I already paid for??

If before the cut-off for cancellations/refunds before the cruise, yes.  Three days out, I believe?  If after that time, see the Concierge and he/she should be able to take care of that for you.

Good luck!  ☺️

I placed a bid from a balcony to a JS for a September cruise.  I have since upgraded myself to a JS.  I don't know if I need to, but now I find no way to cancel that bid.  When I click on cancel from my confirmation, I get the following with no way to actually cancel.  The other two bids on that sailing to GS and 2-BR GS say "expired."  Never got that before.

Anyone know if I have to cancel the JS bid?  Just don't want them to move me to another JS in another location and say it was an upgrade and take a payment.  TIA
