EllieinNJ Posted December 3, 2018 #1 Share Posted December 3, 2018 Do you get a credit or OBC if you see the taxes and port charges go down after final payment?
Arzeena Posted December 3, 2018 #2 Share Posted December 3, 2018 That has been our experience while on board (only).
DebQ5 Posted December 4, 2018 #3 Share Posted December 4, 2018 We just got a refund of $47 per person on our recent trip. Didn't know what it was but wasn't going to complain and then the Concierge explained it during the disembark speech.
smurf1635 Posted December 4, 2018 #4 Share Posted December 4, 2018 What spigot cause the taxes or port charges to change?
Rare shof515 Posted December 4, 2018 #5 Share Posted December 4, 2018 42 minutes ago, smurf1635 said: What spigot cause the taxes or port charges to change? during the booking process, the norwegian over estimates the port taxes/fees. As the cruise gets closer or until the ship is docked at the port, the port taxes might decrease to an actual amount. that difference is then refunded to you
casofilia Posted December 4, 2018 #6 Share Posted December 4, 2018 It certainly does if a port is missed but we have had sums credited to our folio when this has not happened. I always have assumed it is for overcharging port fees and/or taxes. That has been confirmed more than once
kochleffel Posted December 4, 2018 #7 Share Posted December 4, 2018 Everyone I spoke with during my last cruise received a $20 refundable credit during the cruise. We didn't miss any ports and there was no general problem that could have led to a goodwill credit, so I think it was to adjust port fees/taxes. (But I am still waiting for the $20.) zqvol Posted December 4, 2018 #8 Share Posted December 4, 2018 Port fees are estimated, based on ship capacity, etc. once the ship arrives they are actually calculated. If you are over charged you get a refund, if they under charged you NCL eats the difference.
newmexicoNita Posted December 4, 2018 #9 Share Posted December 4, 2018 you know this never entered my mind. We have gotten credit when a port is missed a couple of times but have never thought about the taxes or port charges changing prior to sailing. EllieinNJ Posted December 4, 2018 Author #10 Share Posted December 4, 2018 Thanks for all your answers. I was told to contact my TA to contact NCL about the lower port charge. It is around $50 less now than when I booked in Sept. for my Feb. 2019 cruise. It just might come off automatically once we are onboard.
Keeper420 Posted December 4, 2018 #11 Share Posted December 4, 2018 I was going to just post Laughing out Loud emoji's until I read that people actually get refunds! I just assumed that NCL would take the cash and run. Good for them! 🙂
