jmediaman Posted December 28, 2018 #1 Share Posted December 28, 2018 We are scheduled on Celebrity Equinox (6/22/19). After looking into my cruise planner this afternoon, I noticed that Cap Cana, DR has changed to Tortola BVI. Anyone have any insight into this change? Btw, this is my first posting on CC, so please forgive any errors to proper protocol.
Rare 1025cruise Posted December 28, 2018 #2 Share Posted December 28, 2018 I'm looking at booking this cruise. Sounds like a much better port to me.
imacouponmom Posted December 29, 2018 #3 Share Posted December 29, 2018 I am on the Equinox for the 6/8 sailings and our DR port was also changed to Tortola. I already booked my excursions for the DR so now I am trying to cancel them.

If you have a decent sized roll call going, see if you can charter a catamaran, or just book yourselves. We've been on Aristocat and was booked on Aristocat's boat Lionheart (but one month after Irma--needless to say--it didn't happen). Aristocat lost both of their boats, as did just about every boat owner on the island. I just checked and Aristocat now has a new boat called "Sugar Rush". https://kuralu.com/ Another option is: https://kuralu.com/ You can also take the ferry (or ship excursion) over to The Bath on Virgin Gorda. I wish our October 14 Equinox itinerary would switch to Tortola. This is a much better option than DR.
CoconutOne Posted December 29, 2018 #5 Share Posted December 29, 2018 I hope they're doing this for all Equinox sailings. I'm looking at an April one, but don't really want Punta Cana. If it's changed, that's a big factor in booking for me.

Rare Travelicious Posted December 29, 2018 #7 Share Posted December 29, 2018 I'm on the Equinox in April, and would love to change to Tortola. Aristocat offers the best excursion I've ever done, and I'd love to go again.
DevilinaBluDress Posted December 29, 2018 #8 Share Posted December 29, 2018 I received notice that the 3/16/19 sailing has changed from Punta Cana to Tortola, too. Also call time has changed for Nassau to 12:30-7pm.
jmediaman Posted December 29, 2018 Author #9 Share Posted December 29, 2018 The Nassau change is the same for our sailing on 6/22. We have already reserved the pearl island excursion. However, I am certain it will change or be cancelled.
Rare 1025cruise Posted December 29, 2018 #10 Share Posted December 29, 2018 I'm indifferent on Nassau. Was probably planning a ship day. However, I would be very happy with Tortola over Punta Cana.
cruisers without kids Posted December 30, 2018 #11 Share Posted December 30, 2018 I am on the 8/31 sailing and we too are changed. I received an email from my travel agent on 12/30 indicating the island change and port time changes. I am glad to read people like Tortola better. The website for your sailing still shows Punta Cana, so I guess there is hope my sailing in April will change too, although I've not yet received notice. gschwartz001 Posted December 30, 2018 #13 Share Posted December 30, 2018 My itinerary for July 2019 says Tortola but shore excursions listing still has DR and they have not yet cancelled my excursion I had booked for DR. I assume they are still working through kinks but I may just cancel myself just in case.

sdnich Posted December 30, 2018 #15 Share Posted December 30, 2018 (edited) We are booked on the October 25, 2019 and also just noticed a changed to Tortola also. Have not been to either one but wasn’t particularly excited about DR .I’m gonna look into the suggestion above from the pd7277. but the excursions on Celebrity website still has DR not Tortola Edited December 30, 2018 by sdnich
Mr&MrsBee Posted December 30, 2018 #16 Share Posted December 30, 2018 According to previous reports tendering in Punta Cana is not to safe and have been cancelled. Tortola has a pier that will accommodate 2 large ships.
X2tgibso Posted January 1, 2019 #17 Share Posted January 1, 2019 We’re on the 6/22/19 sailing and was excited to see the change. Looks like they’ve added a lot to the port in Tortola for shopping and the diving is still fantastic. We might visit the Baths. Looks interesting. RunnyBabbit Posted January 1, 2019 #18 Share Posted January 1, 2019 No update yet for our 4/27 sailing, although it would be a welcome change! Will keep checking the itinerary and will repost if the ports change -- fingers crossed!
hiccups Posted January 2, 2019 #19 Share Posted January 2, 2019 (edited) I couldn't remember the ports for our 6/1/19 Equinox cruise, so I just checked. We're on a western itinerary, so not impacted. That actually makes me a little sad because our cruise insurance provides reimbursement for pre-departure itinerary changes. albeachrealtor Posted April 13, 2019 #20 Share Posted April 13, 2019 We were/are super bummed. We booked this cruise because DR and PR were on the list. We are so sick of nassau, tortola, and st thomas. Looks like we will be spending a LOT of time on the boat this cruise.

There is still much damage around the Island, but things are coming back . Everyone there is so happy and grateful for cruisers' return. We had a great day there in Jan...good lunch , nice beach and shopping excursion, good port shopping The beauty of Tortola is amazing! LMEEE06 Posted April 24, 2019 #22 Share Posted April 24, 2019 We were on the Equinox April 13-20 and tendered to Cap Cana Marina in Punta Cana. We are glad we got to stop there - the Adventure Park was fun and one of the highlights of our trip!
Denny01 Posted April 24, 2019 #23 Share Posted April 24, 2019 I’m surprised no one has stated the whole point of going on the cruise was to call at Cap Cana and this now ruins their whole vacation and they want a full refund or free ticket, but still go on the cruise. that seems to happen every time I hear about some port change. Some people think they can get away with such silliness. Den

It left 30 minutes early and they wanted additional OBC. And they were on board, obviously. Then they asked for a partial refund as Samana was substituted for Punta Cana and that was "ruining their cruise".
albeachrealtor Posted April 24, 2019 #25 Share Posted April 24, 2019 Who wouldn't go on a "bad port" cruise for free? I am on this cruise in August and I could have cancelled for free when they made the port change because it was SO FAR in advance and YES I am pissed that we aren't getting to go to DR. Puerto Rico was cancelled last time we went and we got stuck at Nassau. We HATE nassau. Now we are on a cruise that goes to 3 ports that we are so sick of and one port that probably won't happen. Still, I am NOT expecting the cruise line to refund my cruise fare AND let me still sail. Come on people!
