mahuwf Posted January 7, 2019 #1 Share Posted January 7, 2019 We board the Pearl this Saturday (1/12) and our travel agent said that she, through the NCL rep, got us listed as a "VIP" and that there would be "something extra" for us in our mini-suite. Any idea what this might be? We originally booked a balcony with three "Free at Sea" choices, but upgraded to a mini-suite later through our travel agent (instead of the bid process). In doing so, we lost one of our "Free at Sea" choices because the NCL rep apparently said that three choices wasn't part of the deal anymore. Our agent was not satisfied with that and went to bat for us and not only got us an OBC equal to the third choice, but also this "VIP" designation. I just don't know what that means. Perhaps your TA arranged to have some champagne and treats waiting for you when you arrive at your room. I know on our last cruise our TA ordered us a bottle of champagne and some chocolate covered strawberries with a lovely card wishing us a wonderful cruise. This was a little surprise waiting for us in our room on the first day. Back in 2005 when I had completed my first NCL cruise, I was so impressed that i emailed the CEO at the time....Colin Veitch....to tell him so. Amazingly he replied and aware that I had another cruise booked for the following year on the Spirit, unbeknown to me listed me as VIP. Booked in an OV so no upgrade in cabin, however did get snacks delivered everyday by a Butler and got invited to certain events etc. When I quizzed at the time why I was getting the special treatment....was simply told that I had been listed as a VIP. 1 Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

We were invited to the Captain's gala in the Haven (even though we were not Haven guests), as well as a meet n greet during a sea day afternoon that included drinks and snacks. We were given snacks and treats in our cabin each day. We were given use of the Hotel Director's secretary as a concierge-type person. We were given priority disembarkation and escorted off the ship at the end of the cruise. We were given bathrobes and Haven toiletries in our standard balcony cabin. I can't remember what else. The perks varied somewhat on each of the 3 cruises, and were not identical, so don't consider this a checklist that will be the same for you. We got the daily snack (which we gave away more than eating them), chocolate covered strawberries from an officer, priority disembarkation and I can't think of what else. Once was because I organized the M&G, once because we had a complaint that went up to the Hotel Director and I have no idea about the other two times. Don't get your hopes up. What I am thinking is that your TA has sent you a fruit basket or something of that sort. NCL doesn't recognize VIPs. Usually it means some of the perks associated with suite passengers are extended to you. Breakfast and Lunch in Cagney's etc. What is included is all in a letter which will be waiting for you in your cabin. Do not be surprised if you get invited to the captain's reception and other events that are normally set up for suite guests that are also considered VIP guests. My TA got us upgraded to a suite for our first NCL Cruise - back in 02 - so do not underestimate the power of a good and loyal TA. 2 Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

We had the same extra perks as guests staying in suites e.g. breakfast and lunch in speciality restaurants, use of concierge services, special escort off ship at all ports, a special snack every day (candies, cheeses, tapas etc). We also had bathrobes and slippers and special shampoos, lotions etc. And yes, we were invited to a special reception with the Captain. Very, very nice perks. M&Gs can be hard work to set up, but they pay off well. If you like the planning aspect and want to work the roll call, then this is a good way to get perks. One of the nicest things I've seen, is that a gentleman was setting up the meet and greet on one of my cruises, but turned it over to another poster who he didn't know, because he was already cruising in a suite and she wasn't, so that she could get the VIP status. Because of this, some people are quick to start new roll calls, sometimes years ahead. My email is on the Roll Call for them to do that. I did this on one cruise and approached the cruise line about 3 months after the offer to say I would like to arrange the M&G, it was when I had my "Magic Number". I was told that someone had already approached the cruise line and gave me the date. It was 2 days after I had offered on the Roll Call. That person had NEVER in that 3 months put any post on the actual Roll Call. I "called him out" on the Roll Call and he graciously offered, in an email to my private address not in the Roll Call, to let me help him make the arrangements!!!!!!!!!!!!! He still had never posted to the Roll Call so I gratefully refused his magnanimous offer. I did say that any information given to me by persons on the Roll Call would be deleted immediately from my computer. He decided to take a different cruise!!! So I am the organiser!!! alwalaska Posted January 16, 2019 #25 Share Posted January 16, 2019 We found out once that we had VIP because I had been "lurking" on a roll call for the cruise right before ours. They were much more active than my roll call and I ended up posting on their thread and getting to know them. They told the M'aitre D to take of me the next week. They said I was on CC and all.
