Pub Crawl Advice!

Cheers!  After doing a search for “how to plan a pub crawl” I came up short!  I’ve actually never participated in one, and Im trying to gather information for a TA cruise this spring.  With 7 sea days our roll call is looking for a few fun activities to fill our days.  I’d appreciate input from anyone who has planned a pub crawl or participated in one!  We will be sailing on NCL’s Jade.

Thanks!

I'm in the process of organizing a "Poker Pub Crawl" which is a Pub Crawl with a twist.

The following is how I posted on the roll call for our cruise to see who was interested.

"A Pub Crawl where we meet at a spot and walk from bar to bar and order a drink.(usually 4/5 bars) The difference is the Poker Pub Crawl, each person puts in $5.00 and we get a card at each Pub, the best 2 hands wins depending on the number of people. (we usually split the money in 2 prizes).

Let me know who is in (first names) and I will add you to the list. "

As people responded to the post I started the list and will keep updating it occasionally and then finalize it the week prior to the cruise with the Day, Time, and Pub we will meet at.

Hope this helps.

I would pick a sea day and set it up for about 300-500 and hit about 5 bars.  This time frame puts it post lunch, post sunning and prior to dinner.  An itinerary like Sugarcane on 13, Topsiders on 12, Atrium on 7, Tankards and Mixers on 6.

I have organized several Pub Crawl/Poker Runs.  I always hold it at 1:30 on a sea day.  Plenty of time after lunch and plenty of time before dinner. You can either do both the pub crawl and the poker run or just do the pub crawl is what I always say.  Buy in for the poker run is $5 pp.  We go to 5 bars and if you are in the poker run you draw a card at each bar.  Person with the best poker hand wins the pot at the last bar.  I plan the bars ahead of time and try not to use the elevators as much as possible because that can cause problems.

The Epic was a great ship for a pub crawl because most of the bars were located on 5, 6 and 7.  Two years ago on the Epic we had 49 people show up for the pub crawl/poker run.  The winner with the highest hand won $245.  It was a blast.  Great way to get to know each other.

You can pick up cards for the poker run at the Dollar Tree.  Cheap way to get them.

I made a google slide to print out as a punch card for my Escape cruise. If you are interested give me your email and I will make you a copy that you can change for the Jade.

I have led a few on the Getaway, Escape, and this year it will be on the Bliss.  As stated, these ships make "travel" a little easier as most bars are on 6, 7, 8.  The one twist I do is cocktail/beer/drinking songs trivia.  Same concept with the poker run except cards are handed out for correct answers.  We have almost 100 people signed up for our Bliss cruise so I am setting up three groups.  Great way to meet people and get the layout of the ship.  Enjoy!

What a great idea mixing the pub crawl with a poker run!

Best Pub crawl I have experienced was on Holland America.  It was organized by the cruise director staff and cost $20 per person which included 5 cocktails snacks and prizes.  We all met in one bar and were divided into two teams.  At each bar there would be some sort of game that usually involved drinking.. modified beer pong, flippy cups, balloon races etc.  During the tour of the bars our host would walk us through different venues on the ship in parade style with a volunteer flag bearer to lead our group.  The team idea was best as people tend to bond during competition.. It was alot of fun!!

I would not have it at 100pm.  You're infringing upon people's lunch as well as possible sun time.    300-500 would be better because then you'd be done before dinner.  Just a thought.

Norwegian used to do them this way as well.  Not sure about teams or games but it was a scheduled cruise activity.

Actually, if I were you, I would go start at around 1:30pm, that way most are done with lunch.  Here are the bars in the order we went to and yes they were open on Sea days during the time we did the bar crawl.

Atrium Bar Deck 5

O'Sheehans Bar Deck 6

Cascades Bar (Casino) Deck 6

Maltings Beer & Whiskey Bar Deck 7

Shakers Martini Bar Deck 7

GREAT idea a Pub Crawl - just make sure to coordinate it with the bars (crew staffing) so that a full compliment of help

is on hand to pour and serve the beverages and have a bit of room set aside for convenience !

Thank you so much for your advice.  My hubby and I are going to go to each bar the day prior to tell them we are doing this and will be ready for us.  Thanks again

our roll call is up to 77 for the pub crawl - WOW!  There are 130 registered for the M&G.  Exciting!

Expect 70 at the most for the M&G and 50 at the most for the pub crawl.  Without a financial commitment, people say they're going to show up and for whatever reason don't.

I would love the print out/punch card. If you see this let me know and I'll give you my email. Planning one for an upcoming cruise.

The person you asked this of hasn't been on the boards recently (you can see this if you look at their profile), unless they have email notifications on for post quotes I don't think it's likely they will see it.  Such is the risk of digging up a 5 year-old thread...

I have organized pub crawls, and poker/pub crawls.  I personally found the poker ones not fun for me running it…as I was alone in the process…I was stressed. But I think everyone else had fun.  I have a cheat sheet that can be filled out, as well as winning hands (not a poker player here-so I needed the help).  Happy to share if interested.

i still enjoy doing the pub crawl part.  I do it about 2 on a sea day.  Will pick 5  bars, start at the bottom and work our way up. I also try to give the heads up to the bars before hand, and ensuring they will be open. So my planned route is always up to change.  I also encourage everyone to go, even if they don’t imbibe in adult beverages.  It is an opportunity to socialize.  I don’t care if you drink or not. Just arrive with the intent to have fun and enjoy. DH isn’t always feeling social, but he likes this.

trying to figure out a pub crawl on POA with no sea days.
