I just ran these two tests in my cabin.  The first one was with the door closed.  With the second one, I switched servers in Ca and opened my door.....:classic_smile::classic_smile:

Bob

Very nice speeds!

Thanks for posting!

Only thing that confuses me is it says I have 150 minutes re: my Platinum/Elite perk.  I’m not sure what is covered by the package I purchased prior to boarding.  I’ll head down later and ask the internet manager a couple of questions.

Bob,

Did you find out what is covered by the package you bought?  I am deciding whether to purchase the package, because I too have Elite minutes. Thanks.

Yes, the $59.00 package was for unlimited internet (one device) for the entire length of the cruise.  If you wanted to log onto a different device, it would log you off of the previous device.....:classic_smile::classic_smile:

Bob it has really been WINDY here today.    What have the seas been like today.

It’s been rocky.  I went up to Skywalker‘s to sit and read earlier today and I actually had to leave because it was a bit nauseating.  Usually it doesn’t bother me.  Are you in San Francisco?

Good morning everyone from the Ruby Princess.  We just docked in San Francisco.  This is the view from my balcony.  Not a bad one if you ask me.

Last night was our first formal.  We decided not to get all dolled up, instead choosing smart casual.  We decided to have dinner in The "Salty Dog" restaurant.  I opted for the Ernesto Burger.  While it was very good, it seemed a little lacking from all of the pictures I had seen.  I also had the Lobster Mac/Cheese that was very good.  After dinner, we tried our luck in the Casino.  Alas, so far the machines seem to be as tight as they were on the Star from last November.  After the casino we did a little window shopping in the onboard shops.  It was a herculean effort on my part to keep Holli out of the Effy store:classic_biggrin:.

As far as today goes, we don't have any concrete plans.  After breakfast in the CG, we might venture to Fisherman's Wharf and walk around a little.  WE don't plan on being out too long.  When we get back to the ship, I might hit the gym for a workout.  We are scheduled to sail from San Francisco, bound for Monterey, at 2200.

That's all for now.  Hope all are well.....:classic_smile::classic_smile:

This is amazing speed for cruise ship.  It appears that the Ruby is outfitted with the new O3B networks.  On ships that are not equipped with 03B, Pings were 600ms with download speeds of barely at 5 mbps on a good day.  I averaged more at 2 - 3 mbps.  The fact that its hovering around 200, means they are comparable with Royal Caribbean's vaunted voom internet, but only on ships that have upgraded to the O3B system.  Only about 1/3 of the fleet is upgraded and there is no timeline or possibly even intent to upgrade the remaining ships.

Still, this means I will get the internet package.

Thank you for this.

Thanks, Bob.

I will buy the $59 unlimited for my daughter, because she is Gold and I will use the Elite minutes.

I'm only going on a 5 night in May, but it is now being offered to me at 8.99/day for unlimited internet.

Sailing under the Golden Gate Bridge.....:classic_smile::classic_smile:

Bob

Looks like construction work going on underneath the Golden Gate Bridge. The last time we went under the bridge (last March) it was foggy and rainy early in the morning, but we we're still determined to get a glimpse. San Francisco is one of our favorite port stops, enjoy your day. Here's a picture of what we saw of the bridge, but we have seen it on cruises when the conditions were perfect.

Cheers - Ken & Darlene

Ken, I do remember going under the very foggy Golden Gate Bridge that morning. However, the day turned into a lovely sunny day.

Your cruise is under 2 weeks away. You must be very excited.

Good afternoon all from the Ruby Princess.  Holi & I have been back onboard for about an hour.  As I type this, I'm sitting on my balcony just enjoying the moment.  It's a little windy today but the skies are blue with no clouds present.  Today we left the ship around 1130 this morning.  We really didn't have any set plans, so we just walked around the Fisherman's Wharf area.  On our way back to the ship, we had some lunch at "Queen's Louisiana Po Boy Cafe."

As far as the rest of the evening goes, nothing set in stone.  Still trying to decide dinner plans for later.  After that May take in a magic show in Explorers at 2130.  Can't really do any shopping tonight in the shops due to the fact we don't sail till 2200.  Tomorrow is our tendered visit to Monterey.

That's all for now, I'll check in later.....:classic_smile::classic_smile:

Dear Bob:  Didn't pay much attention to your itinerary until just now.  I guess I knew that San Francisco would include Monterey.  This is one of the few voyages that does.  I'm sorry that I didn't much attention to Monterey until it's too late.  I have 4 tickets to the aquarium.  No way to get them to you before AM.

Good morning everyone from the Ruby Princess.  It is currently 0555 pst.  We are currently putting along as we head towards our tender stop at Monterey Ca.  Today Holli and I have the 17 mile drive excursion (Princess Based) to Carmel.  Her DS and DS's hubby were supposed to be with us, but in checking her tickets last night, DS discovered they had the early excursion.  She tried to rectify the situation at the shore excursion desk to no avail.  She was offered ironically two tickets, in exchange, for a whale watching excursion.  Ironically this is the excursion we wanted to go on but it was already full when I tried to book.

Last night we tried Club Class dining fo the first time.  Service was a tad slow but our waitstaff was very friendly and professional.  For the main course, I had the prime rb that was quite tasty.  Holli had the Lobster tail (Crown Grill Selection).  For those who may be unaware, the "Crown Grill Selections" are menu items from the Crown Grill that can be purchased (fee based) for consumption in the MDR.  Overall, the food was very good.  The extra menu item was a Penne Pasta dish with salmon that you could have as a starter, appetizer, or main course.  During dinner I enjoyed a couple of offerings from the expanded beer menu.  I can't say enough how stoked I am that Princess finally addressed the issue of their limited menu (beer) for those of us beer aficionados out there.

After dinner, we tried to see the magic show in Explorers but it was packed.  We returned to our cabins a little early because all of the shops and the casino were still closed due to the fact we did not sail from SF until 2200.

That's all for now.  I'll try to post a sunrise picture a little later, if I can get a good one.

Hope all are well.....:classic_smile::classic_smile::classic_smile:

Thanks for posting the menu Keith.  I didn't even think to do that.  Probably was enjoying the expanded beer menu too much to remember to take a couple of pictures of the menu.....:classic_biggrin::classic_smile::classic_biggrin:
