sb44 Posted June 25, 2019 #1 Share Posted June 25, 2019 Looks like the Surf is going to come out of dry dock end of November with some changes to public spaces, spa and deck 3. We're going to be onboard next month and then again in January. Can't wait to see the differences. https://www.windstarcruises.com/yachts/wind-surf/coming-november-30,-2019/
Redtravel Posted June 25, 2019 #2 Share Posted June 25, 2019 Windsurf cabins could use some new bedding and carpeting.

This is one suite I've never stayed in so something new to think about. So glad the spa is being moved and think it's a great spot for it.
2LoveToTravel Posted June 26, 2019 #5 Share Posted June 26, 2019 We have stayed in 501(now Officers Suite) many times. It is located on the Bridge, but is much smaller than the Bridge Suites....and with 1 bath unlike the suites on Deck 3. It is priced like a regular suite (unless that changes with the new name) We always liked its privacy, being on the Bridge Deck, but you do have to go outside to get anywhere on the ship. ohioelk Posted June 26, 2019 #6 Share Posted June 26, 2019 Notice that they are increasing guest capacity by 32, up to 342. Also adding 10 additional crew. Don't know if that is good or bad. I never felt crowded before. I hope it is not to noticeable.

I think both bathrooms are still in there? If so, just putting the wall back in.
2LoveToTravel Posted June 26, 2019 #8 Share Posted June 26, 2019 In looking at the new WindSurf Deck Plan (see attachment from SB44 above) the new rooms are on Deck 3 where they took 12 suites and converted them back into 24 rooms (suites have 2 bathrooms) gaining 12 rooms. On deck 2 by moving the Spa, they gained 4 more rooms....already there and used for massages. A good business move for Windstar and will increase revenue. Can't wait to see the changes. The Windsurf has always been our favorite ship!
sb44 Posted June 26, 2019 Author #9 Share Posted June 26, 2019 The changes look reasonable to me. We also love the Surf and if the opportunity to increase revenue means a few more people I don't see any problem. I've never felt crowded and welcome the in increased space in the lounge which does get pretty full during welcome receptions, etc. And I may use the spa more now that it's in a more accessible space. Strenz Posted June 26, 2019 #10 Share Posted June 26, 2019 All good. I love the fact that they are increasing staff as well. We love this ship and if I recall that when we first went on her in 1999 those suits did not exist. Excited for January when we are on again. We have been through a number of redos with her and we have liked them all, I am sure this will be lovely. Anything to keep her going, she is aging well. Looking forward to checking out the updates in January.

It would also be nice to have an electric outlet near the bed but I don't think that will be part of this refurb. Would imagine that adding outlets on a ship is more complex than at home! We are so excited to see these changes, especially the lounge and yacht club furnishings. Agree with Strenz, she is aging beautifully and the occasional refurbs certainly go a long way toward keeping her lovely. There is no other ship that compares with the Surf and although we've been on all, this is the one that gets my heart racing when I first see her each time we board. 2LoveToTravel Posted June 26, 2019 #13 Share Posted June 26, 2019 We certainly are in agreement on our love for the Windsurf. She certainly is unique, and after 20 or so trips, has become our home away from home. It is a thrill to see her when she comes into view, and greeting the Captain and crew. Very special indeed. Can't wait for our next voyage!!!
Cometman Posted June 26, 2019 #14 Share Posted June 26, 2019 We love this ship and the entire crew. Can't wait for until the next time we sail on her!
Ski Mom 2 Posted June 26, 2019 #15 Share Posted June 26, 2019 We were told about moving the deck 3 suites back to 2 rooms when we booked our January cruise. The upgrade fairy had granted us one of those suites during our back2back2back Mediterranean cruise last September. We really enjoyed having the 2 bathrooms. Our friends were in 501 and we thought our suite was much better than theirs because of the 2 bathrooms. I'm glad they're not taking away all those suites on deck 3 just in case the upgrade fairy decides to visit us again one day!
Misty Morning Posted June 26, 2019 #16 Share Posted June 26, 2019 Looks like they are removing the bar and stools in the Lounge to make room for the increased passengers Wonder where they will serve the drinks from.
sb44 Posted June 26, 2019 Author #17 Share Posted June 26, 2019 There's no reason to believe they are not going to have a bar and stools. They are just showing a space, not the furnishings.
Strenz Posted June 27, 2019 #18 Share Posted June 27, 2019 I do not think they would ever remove the bar and stools. It is such a popular place for cocktail hour. In my 25 cruises with WS It has always been a popular place. Not to worry. Happy Sailing

Still lower than Club Med 2 ( 386 passengers and 214 crew) If that can help makes my next trip on WS possible, I'm all for it (First trip on WS in 2012 / 1$us=1$ca VS 2019 1$us = 0.73$ca) ouch! Happy Sailing Strenz, that’s what the deckplan now shows, no bar & stools, and given they announced they would expand the Lounge, I went to take a look at some of the Lounge pictures and I am not sure if there is any area other than the Bar they can encroach on to do this. sb44 Posted June 27, 2019 Author #21 Share Posted June 27, 2019 If you look closely at the deck plan you will see that it is expanded toward Amphora with the casino most likely gone. I am certain that there will still be a bar and bar stools as well as tables and chairs. The plan doesn't show specific furnishings, just block spaces for room layout. Strenz Posted June 27, 2019 #22 Share Posted June 27, 2019 I was told the last time I was on the Surf ( January ) that the space that once was the casino will be the expanded lounge. Happy Sailing
Ski Mom 2 Posted June 27, 2019 #23 Share Posted June 27, 2019 If you compare both deck plans you will see they do not show the bar or bar stools in the current deck plan nor the new deck plan. It just shows one big space as far as I can see. They're getting rid of the casino and expanding the lounge into that space. The curve on the current plan is where the casino has been in the past. Misty Morning Posted June 27, 2019 #24 Share Posted June 27, 2019 Apologies I misread the plan. It is the Casino space that's being added to the Lounge. The Bar and stools are at the other end of the Lounge
