DIY Luggage Tags HAL

Hi all,

For the people that are interested I made a DIY to make your own luggage tags. Yes, you can buy them or just simple print them but for me I needed something stronger than the printed en folded tag (lost it with an other Holliday).

What do you need?
-15 minutes of time (for 4 tags)
-The luggages tags printed (provided by HAL in your account)
-Knife is the best, if you don't have it scissors will do
-If using the knife a plate to cut the paper
-Ruler
-Glue stick
-Laminating device
-Laminating sheet

Guide with pictures

1) Cut out the laminated tag(s) and trim them
2) Put in a hole with a Hole puncher

Finished! Now you have strong luggage tags!

Thanks - I’m lazy.  I just buy the laminating sheets at the dollar store, cut the luggage tag and they are done.

They are very strong, I agree.

Can you come clean my garage?

I made my own - 4 of them -- around 2009 when HAL gad us run them off.  Have used the same ones for many cruises over the years.

Made plastic sleeves out of plastic album sheets.  Sealed off the one side with heavy duty tape.  Slide the paper luggage tags into them.  Punched holes in the ends.  When we were ready to leave the hotel for the ship, attached them with cable ties.  Keep a nail cutter in a carry on to take them off.

Once home, slide the paper tags out and throw away.  New tags slide right in.

Or you can go here

https://shops3.directedje.com/HALstore/catalog.asp and get two HAL-branded luggage tag holders for $7 (contemporary) or $8 (vintage). The image is from the site, they're actually more colorful and sturdy...and reusable. Hardly worth creating your own for each voyage.

We were gifted those - they don’t hold up.  At least one of ours didn’t.

I’m reluctant to use the rest.  They are not sturdy - at least not two of them we had.

I don’t mind doing my arts and crafts project.  It’s part of the fun.

The tape method is as far as I am willing to go and most of the time I just let the porters put the generic ones on.  Don't forget to put a copy of the itinerary and your contact info inside the bag.

We only take about two voyages a year,  but they're generally long (shortest one for '20-'21 is 35 days), so they don't get much wear and tear...and I don't put them on until we're ready to go to the port to embark. Still, they seem to be relatively sturdy (but we got them only a couple of years ago, so they may be made differently than older ones). Happy travels!

These are the exact ones that we use.  They have lasted many cruises so far and I really like the retro design.

The design caught my eye, so we got four. I was glad that (at the time) HAL seemed to be proud of its heritage.

Three of our four broke at the "bridge" where the loop attaches, so we don't trust the 4th one any more.  Now we just fold and staple, but put two on each bag for insurance.  Over the years we've only lost one of those!

Regular wide packing tape has always worked for us 😉  4 tags - 5 minutes

This is exactly what I do.  Never lost one yet.

I agree.  Packing tape and cable ties.  Works great. Quick and easy and cheap.

I laminated both sides with duct tape, but somehow my bags got lost.  Good thing I always buy insurance. 😏
