bazzaw Posted July 9, 2019 #1 Share Posted July 9, 2019 I have been on many cruiseships including a couple of Royal Carribean ships - and I cannot recall anywhere that there are "opening windows" of any kind. I have heard it claimed that there are such things on the "pool deck" of Freedom of the Seas? Any thoughts please?
Amylynner Posted July 9, 2019 #2 Share Posted July 9, 2019 There is on the pool deck on Freedom of the Seas. I was just on the FOS in Dec.
Wehwalt Posted July 9, 2019 #3 Share Posted July 9, 2019 These are sideways opening underneath the overhang on the pool deck. Mostly for ventilation.
Coralc Posted July 9, 2019 #4 Share Posted July 9, 2019 The pool deck on most of their ships have large windows that slide open on both sides. For ventilation as previously stated. I hope they don't change that.
alfaeric Posted July 9, 2019 #5 Share Posted July 9, 2019 I've seen them on a lot of ships on the pool deck. Sat in front of one on the Freedom last week.
Zuki Posted July 9, 2019 #6 Share Posted July 9, 2019 I found a picture of the window. I don't know who would put a baby up there. What is wrong with people?!
PhoenixCruiser Posted July 9, 2019 #7 Share Posted July 9, 2019 They slide openSent from my SM-N950U using Tapatalk
Rare thrifty99 Posted July 9, 2019 #8 Share Posted July 9, 2019 (edited) Here are 2 images from a video on the Freedom of the Seas. These windows slide open. The one photo shows there is some separation from the railing to the edge of the window - at least in this particular area on deck 11. potsie57 Posted July 9, 2019 #9 Share Posted July 9, 2019 They have them on the Seranade of the Seas by the pool in the smoking area
Wehwalt Posted July 9, 2019 #10 Share Posted July 9, 2019 (edited) If they seal them shut it will be very hot under there. If they put some sort of barrier, it will be ugly. I really hope they do not for the sake of one incident. I suppose you could put a child's feet on the track that the window runs in. Robo1098 Posted July 9, 2019 #12 Share Posted July 9, 2019 (edited) I thought they were common to most of the Royal Caribbean shis we have been on. Edited July 9, 2019 by Robo1098

I don’t think they’ll be welding them shut just yet. If they did they’d be admitting there was a design flaw, which there isn’t. 3
Tatka Posted July 9, 2019 #16 Share Posted July 9, 2019 After this they will also need to change all balconies, promenade etc... Sure... Very sad situation.
Rare John&LaLa Posted July 9, 2019 #17 Share Posted July 9, 2019 If there is a problem with those windows, there is a problem with the railing on 12, the Promenade deck, and every single balcony 10 1

Not sure why they were blocked, but I think it may have something to do with the air conditioning in there.
Rare John&LaLa Posted July 9, 2019 #21 Share Posted July 9, 2019 Maybe they need to modify all the railings to match the glass added to Freedoms forward sun deck. 😇

Well then I guess they may as well weld shut the balcony doors and not allow anyone on balcony's.
