Royal Up after booking balcony guarantee

Recommended Posts

For the first and last time, I booked a balcony guarantee on Anthem of the Seas.  I was assigned cabin 6676, which appears to be right above the smoking area.  Not trying to start a debate, I just would rather not have my balcony or cabin smell of smoke for 10 days.  Is my only option for an upgrade Royal Up?  I've already called my TA and they said nothing was available in the same category for my sailing.  I asked to upgrade and the price was far more than I was willing to pay and included the perks offered at the time which were far less and a penalty, which they may or may not waive.  Any advice?

You have (2) options...pay for the upgrade or just suck it up......figuratively speaking of course.

This is what happens when you choose to book a guaranteed room and why I never would. I would rather spend the extra money then roll the dice on a crappy location. My worst nightmare would be getting stuck near the theatre or any loud venue.

If you stay in your balcony cabin, you may not notice the smoke. If i remember correctly anthem has an enclosed outdoor smoke area.

If you do smell smoke all i can say is complain to guest services. There is no reason for you to smell smoke in your cabin or balcony. That is unacceptable.

Why would you complain to Royal because you smell smoke on your balcony that is above the smoking area.  How can they control the smoke and where it goes.  To me that would be like booking a summer cruise and then complaining because there are a lot of kids on board.

First, consider yourself lucky that you got a 7D balcony (and assigned this far out) as many times the XB GTY booking leads to an obstructed view balcony assignment. You have no idea if the smoke will ever be an issue on your sailing. Assuming you are talking about the 10/24 sailing, you are still quite a ways out and another 7D may open up to which you could move. Failing all that, you might be able to ask TA/RCI to put you back into the GTY pool and hope for a different assignment.

Biker, who would be happy with that assignment.

Great explanation why smoking should be banned from Cruise Ships.

I could not agree more that smoking should be banned, you can smell a smoker before you get to them, but they will complain about not being able to smoke.  Of course, I should be allowed to breath smoke free air but that does not concern smokers.  Maybe outlaw cigarettes and let them bring those other smoker things instead.  I think there is less smoke smell with those.

And kids I am assuming....

You missed the boat, Royal 30 plus yrs ago never really had any kids. Cruisers then were called the Newlywed and Nearly Dead. Think youngest i saw was 18, me at 22 bet was maybe 10 others younger. I now sail only 10+ niters and Repos, 5-6 Cruises year at most 10-40 kids onboard.
