Rare Andi Land Posted August 8, 2019 #2 Share Posted August 8, 2019 I was just there last week and commented to my mom that the San Diego airport is the worst I’ve ever been to 🤷♀️ It’s definitely subjective.
Rare Copper10-8 Posted August 8, 2019 #3 Share Posted August 8, 2019 Not too shabby for a single runway airport! And you do get a real good look at MCRD San Diego on the way in and out
FlorenceItaly Posted August 8, 2019 #4 Share Posted August 8, 2019 I love the San Diego airport. It is so easy to fly in and out of. The pier is so close I've even taken the public bus. I love San Diego and the airport. I will have the pleasure again in about 80 days!
Krazy Kruizers Posted August 8, 2019 #5 Share Posted August 8, 2019 We have flown in and out of the San Diego quite a few times. Do not like it. JMO
catl331 Posted August 8, 2019 #6 Share Posted August 8, 2019 This guy's priorities differ from ours. For example he gives points for lounges, and we never use them. We like our Orlando airport which he ranks 49th!
cat shepard Posted August 8, 2019 #7 Share Posted August 8, 2019 I can not imagine any other big airport being able to beat San Diego in the “proximity” to Downtown category.😉
davy jones Posted August 8, 2019 #8 Share Posted August 8, 2019 San Diego is considered to be a challenging approach and landing by pilots.
Himself Posted August 8, 2019 #9 Share Posted August 8, 2019 IF San Diego is at the top, Chicago Midway isat the bottom of the Heap. I prefer to fly out of O'Hare. I have been to San Diego several times and I do not have a problem with it.
T8NCruise Posted August 8, 2019 #10 Share Posted August 8, 2019 I don't really like San Diego airport, but one thing they have going for it is the location. Great proximity to the city. I've been to many other airports that I like much better.
Randyk47 Posted August 8, 2019 #11 Share Posted August 8, 2019 Can’t count the number of times I’ve flown in and out of San Diego. My late in-laws lived in San Diego so from 1981 to 1996 when they moved to Portland. We visited at least once a year and sometimes as much as three times a year. Always heard it was, from at least a pilot’s point of view, one of the more dangerous airports because of the approach and the short runway. It was weird to literally fly between buildings on the approach and see people watching you land from their offices. From a passenger point of view it always seemed easy to get in and out of and I much preferred it to Dulles or Reagan in Northern Virginia where I was living most of the time during those years. taxmantoo Posted August 8, 2019 #12 Share Posted August 8, 2019 Agree that the SD Airport is in a great location for travelers and is very easy to navigate through. They certainly can't say the same about San Diego Cruise Port ... one of the worst organizationally anywhere !
Cruising-along Posted August 8, 2019 #13 Share Posted August 8, 2019 I'm not surprised that Ft. Lauderdale is at the bottom. Worst experiences ever there. Never had a problem in San Diego.

cunnorl Posted August 8, 2019 #15 Share Posted August 8, 2019 Don't know how they judge these things but I do not like that airport. The TSA agents are by far the most arrogant that I have ever encountered. One hand does not know what the other is doing. Do not care about airport amenities, just need a safe, quick in and out. Clearly lacking in San Diego.
bEwAbG Posted August 8, 2019 #16 Share Posted August 8, 2019 I had a connection at the Phoenix one and felt like I'd traversed the entire state to get from one gate to another. It is very spread out! Some of those other top airports are ones I'd rate a lot lower on my personal scale. I am partial to National here in DC because I live about 10 minutes from it and it is very close to downtown. They're about to ruin some of its charms by moving most of the individual security checkpoints to a single place further from the gates. That means more walking and longer lines, no matter how they try to spin it. I love when the airport is close to the city center. Austin used to be that way. Then they built a new one further south and now it takes twice as long to get anywhere (though the airport itself is very nice). And, of course, the Denver airport is practically in Kansas. Dulles here in the DC area is also quite a drive unless you already live out that way (more and more people do).

Ooh, Reagan wins the prize for being the closest to downtown, but in another state. Of course DC is not a state, but it certainly is Downtown!
