Luv2cruz1000 Posted August 15, 2019 #1 Share Posted August 15, 2019 We noticed the Havana pool area is open to the public in the evenings. (5-7 at night). Is anyone allowed in the pool and hot tub at that time or just the deck area? Opinion if it is worth the extra. Looking at aft cabins in the Havana area. Thanks
JaxsMama Posted August 15, 2019 #2 Share Posted August 15, 2019 I think its after 7pm, but yes you can use everything at that point.
thesmiths Posted August 15, 2019 #3 Share Posted August 15, 2019 (edited) We did the Vista Last year, an AFT wrap Havana ,7459. (Splurged for our 25th Anniversary, it was all a surprise for my wife) We are usually pretty active at night and we eat dinner as soon as YTD opens. To shows, comedy, Piano Bar or casino, I don't think we ever got back down to the Havana pool area at night, but could see plenty out there from our balcony. We spent a few nights at the inside Havana Bar area listening to the music. We loved it so much we booked two 8 days cruises on the Horizon next year same Havana Aft Wrap Cabin as we did on the Vista. Think it was the 2nd sea day, we walked forward to get a Burger and a burrito, walked out by them main pool area and we couldn't get back to the Havana area fast enough 🙂 Spoiled we were. Here's a couple shots I could find quick. Edited August 15, 2019 by thesmiths

Rare jimbo5544 Posted August 16, 2019 #11 Share Posted August 16, 2019 It is the location.. not my fav either, stuck in the middle of the starboard side. I am staying in one on the initial sailing out of Copenhagen ( we are huge fans of Havana rooms ).

dcrthatsme Posted August 20, 2019 #13 Share Posted August 20, 2019 Missed a regular balcony in our Havana cabin. Not private. Did not see many using their big balcony but there was a walkway in front of it. The furniture very uncomfortable for us being older. It is so close to the ground difficult it’s too difficult to get out of. Beautiful but not functional.

What was it you didn’t like about the Havana area when you were on Mardi Gras? As the Mardi Gras isn't completed yet, you can check out the deck plans and compare them to those of the Vista or Horizon. Totally different. We loved the Havana area on both the Vista and Horizon. We went with a cove balcony for booking of our Mardi Gras cruise in 2021. As far as allowing others to use the Havana pool after 7PM. Things might be different in late spring and summer, but since 7P is in the middle of dining and then the evening events, last January, we saw 1 family using the Havana pool with a couple of small children one evening. Stayed about 20 minutes and left.

SOunds like it was not for you.... we usually travel in groups and on our Horizon cruise they LOVED it. SO much so that when we talked about another group cruise, they all chimed in, no more blue towels which stated which cabins they wanted to be in. That said, to each their own... Your response is obviously dripping with sarcasm, but compared to the 3 Vista Class ships, the Havana location according to the schematics that have been posted will be totally different on the Mardi Gras as was posted by Jimbo. The Vista class ships have a pool, two hot tubs, a connected bar and a great aft view on deck 5. The Nardi Gras will have a substantially smaller pool with no hot tubs, no connected bar, and be relegated to a small strip of turf on the starboard side. This area was an afterthought. I have to agree. I looked at the Mardi Gras deck plan and the Havana amenities and location are just a shell of what it is on the Vista class ships. Stupid design!!! Have not done a Havana yet but sailing on the Vista in 4 days and have a Cabana room so I will let you know what I think.

Devo1459 Posted August 21, 2019 #19 Share Posted August 21, 2019 My opinion comes from the fact its not in the back. So its a side view. No hot tubs. It looks lame. Maybe I am wrong time will tell.

Jimbo.....you can't possibly defend Carnival over their decision to dramatically reduce the space and amenities of the Havana area on the Mardi Gras versus how it's set up on the Vista class ships. A good size pool, two hot tubs, connected bar and great large aft area versus a smaller pool on the side of the ship with many more cabins having access to the area as well is in fact, a stupid design. Based on my experience on both Vista and Horizon, and from what I have read online on this and several other sites, the Havana pool area was rarely crowded and frequently very under utilized. While this is great for people in Havana cabins (and certain suites), it isn’t a very efficient use of space. Carnival didn’t get to where it is today by making “stupid designs”. There is a big difference between designs that people don’t like (smaller lounges for example) and designs that are “stupid”.

Defend is not the word I would use. I was pretty critical on what I saw when the renderings came out. I think the Havana Cabana rooms are a home run on the Vista class ships. That said, as more and more info came out regarding the Mardi Gras, I see that they have introduced new area and totally new cabins (after seeing this we booked an aft corner suite on the Mardi Gras on a January 2021 sailing). Am I happy with where the Havana area is on the Mardi Gras? No. But I will hold my final assessment till I get. To see everything. That was what I referring to in my post. But that doesn’t mean they are stupid. I can also see Carnival’s perspective to design lounges that can be used for multiple purposes. However, I still prefer the larger “theaters” on Carnival’s ship classes prior to Vista.
