havanadaydreaming Posted August 26, 2019 Author #27 Share Posted August 26, 2019 Reason I originally asked was I remembered a couple sea day activities, specifically, on other cruise lines. MSC - went to a wine class where we analyzed 4 diff types of red and white and mixed different percentages, then made our own bottle based on blend we preferred. (I actually purchased three of them with customer labels - MargaritaBill Cellars) NCL - I usually don't like to lido pool but there was one hour of dedicated Jimmy Buffett music on deck on a sea day midday. This was on a ship that had the first Margaritaville At Sea onboard. I had a Miami Vice and plopped in the pool and it was 5 o'clock somewhere for sixty minutes. (you might tell I'm a big parrothead) Carnival - I love the trivia, so many more daily options than other lines. my fave thing onboard Carnival is the Dive In Movies - especially after dark. I also remember liking the live music around the ship more than other lines.

sanmarcosman Posted August 27, 2019 #33 Share Posted August 27, 2019 (edited) We miss the pari-mutuel horse racing on sea days with Carnival that followed the Hairy Chest Contest. The races were held poolside and a $2 Win bet usually returned $8 - $10 depending of course on the odds and number of people participating in the gambling. We like Carnival because the Afternoon Tea and Horse Racing most preserved for us our days crossing the Atlantic as military brats on the big liners of the day. We appreciate that Carnival has preserved afternoon tea on sea days often with live music accompaniment like the string musicians on the Dream last February. Bringing back horse racing would be fun and it's not an expensive game for Carnival to operate. If people understood that it was lively outdoor gambling they may have an interest. I suspect it fell out of favor because people didn't realize it was gambling 😉 Edited August 27, 2019 by sanmarcosman

I was watching a cocktail creation contest one sea day. 3 or 4 people made their own alcoholic drink and some judges voted on the best one. The winner got some prize and the drink was served that day on the ship. There was some big old dude that was wasted that stumbled up during the middle of it trying to order a drink. It was pretty funny until he got belligerent and had to be kicked out.

Typically the craps table isn't open until afternoon or early evening, but I have been known to play for hours depending on how I am doing. A funtastic way to spend an evening. Rare Banditswife Posted September 1, 2019 #41 Share Posted September 1, 2019 I have never seen the horse racing, but read it is coming back for the journey cruises. Thant & frog racing. I do remember, years ago, people building ships out of whatever was available, then sailing them in the pool. It was fun to watch. Wish they still did that. I love sea days: Brunch, tea, relax. People watch & chat. It's all good.

Ecspecially in casinos, and CCL knows this and will continue to allow smoking in designated areas and the casino.
HeyNowMama1315 Posted September 1, 2019 #47 Share Posted September 1, 2019 We are all about the water slides, pools, and refreshing drinks! If the DJ has some music pumping too, even better... then of course there has to be a nap before dinner and evening activities.

After that, hands down, hanging out on the promenade just people watching! Afternoons are for napping, a quick check of the shops for the umpteenth time, then some chilling on the balcony .
