I just got an email that the HAVEN restaurant is closed our entire sailing on the NCL Joy(leaving in just 2 days!!!!).   They said that we would be eating breakfast and lunch in Cagneys!  And we have the 7 day specialty dinner package.   I am very upset. I had an intention to rarely leave the sanctuary of the Haven space.   I would appreciate any comments or feedback.   Am I am being unreasonable by being very upset and disappointed?  I am not a big specialty restaurant person so what should I book if I have to choose one every night of our sailing.

Sorry you are disappointed with missing out on the Haven restaurant, but don't be upset.  Take advantage of the specialist dining - it's a real treat.  My favorite is LeBistro. Excellent food and service.  My husband says they have the best filet mignon on the ship. My favorite is the Dover sole, yet the scallops are to die for. OMG, so many choices. For dessert, try the chocolate napoleon or the fondue - both delicious - and finish it with French press coffee.  If I could eat here everyday I would, it's so good.

It's still an exclusive restaurant for Haven passengers, for breakfast and lunch..  not sure why this is an issue?  For years the ships used Cagneys as the restaurant for suite passengers...  Service will be exellent

People can still choose to book the older ships without the Havenrestaurant if they want to. If people book the newer ships with Havenrestaurant it's an issue if they can't use it.

I understand that the restaurant can be closed for maintenance/repairs but I don't think a special dining package is enough compensation.

They could keep the restaurant open and prepare the food in another kitchen. Or they could close one of the specialty restaurants and use that as Havenrestaurant, but that shouldn't help people who prefer to stay within the Haven.

I literally could not have less sympathy for the people complaining about no Haven restaurant in this thread.

You're getting breakfast and lunch in Cagney's, which is a lovely, classy space and will only be accessible to other Haven passengers. I don't think you'll get lice from the commoners in steerage by having to walk an extra 3 minutes to get your petit filet with eggs.

Yeah, because paying those ridiculous prices for Haven rooms should entitle you to less rather than what you paid for.....

UPDATE:  I just called to try and make reservations for the specialty dining rooms......AND THERE ARE NO SLOTS AVAILABLE LEFT.......IN ANY OF THE RESTAURANTS until 9:45PM!!!!!!   Which is not an option for my husband and me.   I was trying to be opened minded....NOW I am just ticked off!!!

Relax. There will be tons of reservations available once you board, and the concierge will help you if those fill up too.

So you're having your fancy breakfasts and lunches in one fancy private dining room instead of another fancy private dining room.

Oh the humanity.

Let's see if I have this straight. It's not OK for people to complain about not having a private restaurant that they PAID for, however it's OK to complain about NCL taking away deck space for pax.

Yep I do pay attention and this complaint holds more water than some others I've seen.

And totally piss off all the passengers that have booked that restaurant.  What's better piss off a few who feel entitled or piss off many more passengers over the week.

Your concierge should be able to get you in even if booked up

Well this thread answered a question I had about further reservations being available once we board - yeah and thanks for that.

I am sorry for those who are frustrated and disappointed by the change.  Hopefully you can get past it and enjoy the incredible trip you are about to experience, sometimes when things seem the worst you get a gift that you never expect.  Perhaps you will meet someone you might not have had a chance too otherwise or see a group of whales that might not have been visible from the Heaven.

If it is really bad then seek compensation for what you missed out on.

Hope all of those effected by the change still have a wonderful trip.

Personally, I would love this option.  Our last cruise on the Escape the Haven restaurant was a little bit of a letdown .  We only are there twice and skipped it the remainder of the trip for specialty restaurants which were excellent.

.

Since when is cruising about seeing things not visable from heaven?  Who among us knows such things?

Sorry but the service in the Haven restaurant far exceeds service at any specialty dining venue (in my experience).  I’d be upset.  For the OP,  if you want the sanctuary of the Haven (and I don’t blame you) have your butler bring your said specialty restaurant dinner to the Haven or your cabin.  Especially if you can’t get a dining time you like.

They don't feel entitled. They ARE entitled in that they PAID for the service which they are now not receiving.

Why do people crap all over Haven guests with the steerage comments and all that nonsense? Consider for a moment what your ass looks like to all the people in the slums of Rotán when that entitled ship of yours sails away off into the sunset.

Another suggestion is to e-mail the pre-cruise Concierge.  Explain the situation and send them the list of your dining reservation requests and ask them if they can forward it to the Concierge onboard.  It may or may not work, but is worth a try.  Then check with the Concierge when you get to the pier.  Good luck and enjoy!

Something that has not been mentioned...

I feel sure that several bookings, or at least a section of each specialty restaurant, has been blocked off for this unfortunate and unavoidable  closure in Haven.    Isn't the closing of the Haven restaurant better than having your Haven suite reservations being cancelled, or the entire cruise being cancelled!!!

You can chose to complain, or chose to go and make the best of the situation. I know which one I would choose. 👩

To answer your question..."Am I am being unreasonable by being very upset and disappointed?"    Yes, to being upset.  No to being disappointed. 😉

And it is good that they did not try to combine the Haven and the Suites into the same private dining room like on small ships. The Haven will have their own space. And the Suites will have their own space for breakfast and lunch.

What compensation would you seek? Preparing food in the main galley 12 decks down and 1/2 the length of the ship away would only mean very slow service and cold food at service.

The cruise line has replaced a complimentary restaurant in the Haven with a menu that never changes with any of the for-fee specialty restaurant on the ship, every night. We cruise often, and never eat at the Haven Restaurant for dinner more than once or twice on a cruise because the menu is always the same. We would be ecstatic to eat at other specialty restaurants for free every night.
